Are matches too short?

Most matches end in under 10 minutes before you even get the chance to do much of anything.

More than often I have games where I dont even get once in a chase with the killer.

Both sides are basically forced to rush each other and finish the trial as fast as possible which I think it takes away a lot from the fun aspect of the game ,where it feels like you dont have enough time to properly experience the game as intended.

A decent number, though I wouldn't be able to tell you what my average killer round averages. I do my best not to tunnel anyone, and I'm not camping hooks unless it's EGC, so my 3-4K's are almost always 10-12 hook contests. Plus, I give a lot of hatches, so there's always travel time looking for that in many of my games. I do have mych shorter matches -- I've 4K'ed in 5-6 minutes when the survivors have made catastrophic mistakes -- but it's super-rare I get clobbered in the "5 gens in 5 minutes" type of game.

I rarely play the "S-tier" killers (Nurse, Blight, Spirit) and play more Pig than any other killer, so who I play often lends itself to games that stretch out a little more.

I think about 10 mins is a decent amount of time. The issue is when you have those games that only last 5-6 mins and both sides barely interacted with each other. Those matches feel pretty bad, in my opinion. Or when you happen to down all 4 survivors in the first 2 mins of the game, that just doesn't feel like a good match.

    Yes and no.

Right now, with current queue times, map balancing RNG, RNG of SBMM right now, and just the overall gameplay of what you have to do as survivor, then no. It'd be boring.

But if queue times were longer, or you got more balanced matches, and there was actually more that was required to do, then yes. Like if you had to go find like oil for generators, then spark plugs, and stuff like that to get them powered on. Just like more engaging stuff to do as survivor, then yeah I wouldn't mind longer matches or bigger maps.

I don't like 20 minutes matches in DbD tho, those are usually the matches where there are only 2 survivors left and they hide like their life is on line. If the queue is fast then it's fine if the match takes less than 15 minutes to be over.

This is gonna be the main problem VHS faces, matches in that game are too ######### long. Like 45 minutes long. I prefer short matches though not in the sense that all gens get done in 3 minutes.

If you dont get in a chase even once its because the killer player is too bad. Its nothing to do with games go to fast.

10 minutes or less is perfectly fine by me. 15 minutes is way too long. Longer than 15 minutes makes me wonder why I even loaded up the game

I would agree, if queue times are taken into consideration. A 10 minute match after a 5 minute queue, 1 - 3 minutes in the lobby, and another minute for loading, there's almost more downtime than playing the game. And if you're the lucky one who gets tunnled out in the first three minutes, then it's even worse. I'd love to play more survivor games, but the queue times are brutal and I don't like sitting there, waiting. Survivor queue times ought to be short like killer queue times, maybe then a short match won't feel like a waste of time.

Frankly, I'm sure 1/2 of my hours in DBD are sitting in queues, lobbies and loading screens.

Yeah, you also take into consideration tunneling, that will get you out of the game in under 5 minutes.

45 minutes? 😮 The more I hear about VHS the less interested I am.

Well... Faster than that, ideally. Otherwise I would argue you picked the wrong one to tunnel.

I was Doll Master on that lab map and it came close to 45 minutes. Yeah my interest for the game is dead after that.

Right around 10 minutes is ideal. Probably 8-12 is the best range. Anything shorter than 7 minutes usually means there was a DC or a huge disparity in skill.

Anything longer than 13 minutes usually means a survivor or two spent a long time hiding or the killer refused to leave a 3 gen area (which is a fine strategy, but incredibly boring when both sides are safe and stubborn).

    Of course there are exceptions.

A round as survivor usually lasts between 15-40 minutes for me, with the exception of the occasional 5 minutes where my team and I get destroyed. Less when I play killer because I'm not so good. I like the amount of time it takes. I can understand if people don't want it super long such as 40 minutes, but I don't get why people would want something less than 10

Yeah I particularly don't like the short matches that DBD has. Even if queues are instant for killer. It still sucks to join in to play game, wait in lobby for 2 minutes and then have a 5 minutes match. It's even worse as survivor. I'd prefer it if matches were longer, but not in the games current state, that would be boring.

Yeah VHS matches could be between 20-40 minutes, but it's engaging. A lot more than DBD. Between all the different things you can interact with, tracking The monster with pings, crafting, using the things you crafted, formulating plans. It's kinda like league of legends, are large scale battlefield game modes. You can spend up to an hour in those, but you're always doing something so there's very little down time.

DBD doesn't have that. It's hold W to generator. Hold m1. Finish that gen, hold W to the next one, come across a totem, hold M1, killer finds you, hold W again. Get unhooked, hold m1 to heal. Find another generator, continue holding m1. There's just hardly any engagement in DBD. That's the only reason long matches do/would suck. There's just nothing else to do.

This is the TikTok generation with extremely short attention spans. They would want shorter matches if they could get them.

I've counted multiple times with timer, and most matches are under 8 minutes... win or lose, doesn't matter, everyone has to work extremely quick.

Had alot of matches last under 10 minutes lately. Gens go by so fast i cant have 12 hooks in that time i can barely have 3. So i'd say yes too short.

From what I have seen it more or less those games only happen if one side is stalling...Just like what happens in DBD.

Nearly every single killer is dedicating every or nearly every perk slot to perks that regress or outright disable generators. That should tell you all you need to know.

I’ve never had a DbD game last anywhere close to 45 minutes, even if someone was stalling.

10? Try 5. That's how long a typical gen-rush goes (300 to 320 seconds before the last gen pops to be more accurate).

Although, to be fair, I've often killed a whole team in about 1.5 minutes as Nurse. Completely their fault (and the MMR's) obviously.

8-10 minutes feels fun. Less then that and the survivors probably blew through the gens and its lame. Or longer then that and survivors are probably getting dominated and now hiding which is SO BORING.

    Adaez Member Posts: 1,243

Gen speed is just too fast,I would rather have them increase the amount of time it takes to finish a gen or add another gen to complete and nerf gen regression perks, that's what's killing the game alons tunneling and camping gameplay wise.

I play for pips, BP, and 12 hooks/max points for survivor so matches under 10 minutes I want nothing to do with. If the match was 10 minutes or less the killer got smoked or the killer got a crazy snowball but either way def didn't 12 hook. Rushing the match and praying for a safety pip is not my gig. Killer needs the match to last longer than 10 minutes most games.

Just want to shout out myself on getting the Hillbilly perk challenge done (Tinkerer, Lightborn, and enduring) with console Trickster on Suffocation Pit last night. Pulled off some magic in that one.
