So why do we call him "Bubba" instead of "Leatherface?"
Yes, I understand that's his name. However, Bubba is more commonly known as "Leatherface" in other media. If you said "Bubba" to a non-DBD player, even if they know about Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they probably wouldn't know who you're talking about. The fact that it's his name isn't really a good reason, considering we don't call any other Killers by their real names, with the obvious exceptions of Myers, Freddy and Sadako (since they're known by their real names.)
So that brings the question, why exactly does most of the DBD community call him "Bubba?" Despite him being much more commonly known as "Leatherface?"

Bubba is 2 syllables
Leatherface is 3
It's just faster to pronounce
55 -
Boba
14 -
It's faster and is just fun to say.
17 -
Because you don't want to find yourself alone with a big guy named Bubba.
18 -
Caleb is 2 syllables, Deathslinger is 3. Yet I don't see anyone calling Deathslinger "Caleb."
2 -
slinger moment
21 -
Because we call him slinger
26 -
So why don't we call Billy "Max?" Or Spirit "Rin?" Those are easier to say, being 1 less syllable.
0 -
Billy is the short for Hillbilly and Sprit is Waaah

Deathslinger is not a licensed character, and I doubt that many people actually read the lores of Killers to know their real name. 'Caleb' is generic and not very memorable of a name unless you personally know someone by it.
Everyone familiar with the TCM franchise knows Leatherface's name, and 'Bubba' is just quicker and easier to pronounce.

I call him Leatherface sometimes.

So why don't we call Bubba "Leather?"
0 -
Because Bubba is an actual name, his name, and scans better?
Someone started doing it and it stuck, that's how all nicknames work.
Also, to an earlier point, people do call Spirit "Rin".
15 -
Everybody calls her Rin in my country. Idk about Billy. Probably nobody really cares about his real name
3 -
funni basement guy called buba
1 -
What? Like a belt? Bubba's not a belt.
5 -
And he's not a Bubba either. Case closed.

Well. „Leatherface“ feels so distanced, formal and impersonal. And after so many hours of being face to face with him (while hanging on a meathook) it just doesn’t feel right to not call him by his actual first name.
10 -
Bubba is the character's name. The power is "bubba's chainsaw' not "leatherface's chainsaw" people refer to The Shape as "Michael" or "Michael Myers" all the time so what's your deal, man?
4 -
Because "Basement Bubba" sounds better than "Basement Leatherface"
10 -
Do you want to know the secret?
Ok, I will tell you .... just wait a sec. Ok here it comes:
Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba Bubba
15 -
The bububu, the bububu, the bububu.
2 -
To piss people off on the internet so they breakdown into whataboutisms.
15 -
In my group we actually do call him Leather lol but Bubba is much more catchy and to the point.

Bubba is more fun to say.
3 -
That would require people to read.
1 -
Is this your king?

Probably because Bubba is quick and relatively easy to pronounce, no matter your language. Two easy syllables buh-buh. Just like Bill-EE. Nice and easy for everyone.
0 -
Because Bubba is easier to say than Leatherface. I've always called him Bubba outside of DBD, too, so... 🤷♀️
4 -
What is your issue with Boob? He is an innocent Boob not a Leatherface. So rude.
3 -
I call the deathslinger Fisher. Reminds me of a cartoon character out of Moomin. Also he kinda does fish with his weapon in a way.
1 -
I mean his name is Bubba... I don't call Michael the shape eather. I dont call Freddie the nightmare and i'm most likely going to call the new killer Sadako as well.
2 -
Texas chainsaw massacre 2 saw him nicknamed as Bubba Sawyer.
0 -
I call him cannibal

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. It's like when people call Pinhead the Cenobite, or Myers the Shape. The devs call them those things in-game on a technicality. We know what their real names are.
0 -
Easy bubba is more fun to scream when getting chased by one lol
2 -
Myers is credited in the films as The Shape not as Micheal Myers.
2 -
Really? Is it like that in the script or something?
0 -
I think of Bubba as Jedidiah Sawyer but call him Bubba.
5 -
Bubba is more well known to me than sadako, if the new killer wasnt known and you said that name I wouldn't have a clue.
It's all about who grew up with what, killers that even have a name like Michael myers arent always recognized to everyone just because they never grew up with it.
Personally I just find the name abit funny to use and just simpler, however i cant use the families name as bubba is the only one in DBD.
So far the Ringu is the only liscene chapter I didnt know the actual name of straight away, ill be forgotten it by later today

Yeah in the second film he's referred to by his brother Chop Top as Bubba.
It's often been debated in the dark halls of cinema nerdom if that's his real name or if its Jedediah Sawyer.
I'm pretty sure it's Jedediah "Bubba" Sawyer. So both really.

I watched a small part of one Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie and the dad, if that's who the cop looking guy was, called him "Thomas" I think.
As for my other poor examples, Myers is actually credited as "The Shape" in Halloween, and thinking back on it, Pinhead is credited as the "Lead Cenobite" in Hellraiser.

Yeah there is a lot of disparity between the first texas and the rest, I think the last name of the family changes a few times too. There is a different last name for the family house when reported on the news at some point. I haven't watched them for a while.
In truth they original has some really terrfying moments but just drags out at the end to the point of being unwatchable and the second movie is just bizarre.
The shape was the script name for Myers and it just stuck.
I never got into hellraiser, saw the first one but meh didn't feel a need to watch the rest so don't really know.

That's one of the newer ones, bubba etc. Come from the older ones and Jed came from a reboot where he apparently has a normal cousin.
The old films are the best, they dated sure but bubba is troubled, hes like a kid.
0 -
its because he looks derpy and stupid, hence bubba sounds more fitting
1 -
It’s in his power’s name.
Bubba’s Chainsaw.
2 -
Didn't think of Boob, I call him Booba, cause it's fun and I like acting childish when against him (he acts like a big child)
0 -
I am most likely to call her Samara because of the american version, woops
0 -
Waaah. You made my day. Thank you! 💟

Same reason we say Freddy and not Nightmare and Myers/ Michael instead of Shape. It's a licensed character that most of us either grew up with or are already familiar with.
Plus it's just faster and there's no stopping to think about it
