Bad Matchmaking Megathread

So there are so many threads made with anecdotes of horrific matchmaking, I thought why not try to consolidate?

So I'll go first: last night I loaded into a match as survivor, against what seemed like a pretty good Oni (as streamer as well). The match was pretty high paced, with the action pinballing all around the map (suffocation pit); the killer was bouncing from surv to surv, two of which were chasing flashlight saves and making a bunch of high risk plays; a lot going on.

But I noticed one survivor, a Feng with a base cosmetic, immersing around, not doing anything, crouchwalking away every time the killer was anywhere near, like a dazed person who had wandered onto a busy highway. I don't even think they had the running mechanic down. You could practically see the deer in headlight eyes, not unusual for a new player. They got downed once, we saved, and then the chase was brought back near them again, they just DC'd.

I checked their playtime after the match - 1 hour. 1. Everyone else was 1500+ (to be fair, while I have 1700+ on PS, I was on PC and my Steam account is at about 50 hours, but that actually makes it worse).

I have been a part of many matches similar to this recently, on both platforms.

Just try to imagine your first few matches being like that. I'd probably quit.

Well since mmr is soft capped everyone now is near the same mmr so their "skill based matchmaking" system really doesnt mean anything now .

There are definitely soft tiers in there, and you can really notice the difference when you move from middle-high to high (just spitballing here, since none of us can actually see the "tiers"). But the meaninglessness of the SBMM is kind of the point being illustrated by these examples we keep seeing.

And someone with one hour of playtime should never load into a match with a 1500 hour player, much less three of them.

Mmr means next to nothing for matchmaking. I have killers with intentionally low scores and still get the overflow of SWFs in lobby que.

That will happen for sure, but not all SWFs are good, either.

But again, the often near total randomness of matchmaking where there is an SBMM "system" in place is kind of the reason people have horrible matchmaking tales, and something that needs to be pointed out as much as possible.

1 hour? Wow that’s awful. I still remember my first game I wanted to quit

I really wish there'd be some balancing out. The last 7 days i was just using meme perk builds like a no mither, locker ect. and i couldn't escape. I just couldn't. There are over 70 survivor perks alone and i just see a random exhaustion perk (mostly dh), ds, bt and CoH. That's it. The Killers also have a nice amount of perks to choose from but they're running the meta for the killers. I can't even try to have fun with some meme builds. I'm just depiping as soon as i'm using meme builds. I feel really sorry for those players who don't even have the meta perks because they'll die sooner than me. Imagine starting in a game and everyone is using stuff you don't even know how to react to it & once you finally got an idea what those perks are doing you can't even counter them most of the time.

I just want to use fun builds and bring some variety the game obviously has to offer.

There's a clear difference between a swf paired with these killers and the overflow mm gives me. I don't have an issue with getting an okay swf, it's the ones prepped and hoping to make a mockery of high level blights or nurses that have me playing survivor 90% of the time. The frequency I see them in lobby is ridiculous.
