How you deal with tunneling killers?

I have been playing dbd for quite some time, i have 300 hrs, i was iri 3 and i stiil am a preety high rank, but i still face the same killers that only have 3 brain cells, the camping and tunneling killers, i know most of the community finds them, but i am just tired of them, every time i want to wear my pink yui combo with the kimono i get tunneled off the hook, so tell me, how you deal with them, cuz dc-ing is just better than to pipe down.

Best thing you can do is waste as much of their time as possible in the process. If you're lucky, teammates will have brain cells and do generators while you're being chased. You can consistently get 4 or 5 gens out of 3 hook states with enough practice assuming teammates can hold M1 on gens. If you're unlucky, your teammates are going to be focusing on literally everything except the thing that powers the exit gates, and there's no hope at that point.

take hits when the survivor running is going through dead zones. Do gen's near where the survivor is looping, but not be in the way, or too close the Killer would notice you - be in a position where the Killer would have to drop chase to stop you from doing a gen right in front of you.

It takes skill by both the person coming off the hook, and you. If one or both of you lack skill as Survivor, then you're dead.

Decisive Strike for myself, Borrowed Time and Guardian for others. Fourth perk flexible. I like to use Off the Record for the theme, though Iron Will is better overall. Breakdown is an option so the killer can't just take you to the same hook again.

I get the same reaction to my pretty pink cowgirl outfit. I think some killers are like bulls, they see bright colors and just go nuts.

Seriously though, look at it as a chance to improve your looping skills.

BT/DS is usually enough of a defence to deter killers from tunnelling, although if the killer wants you dead, there's nothing you can do to really stop them, they'll eventually get you out of the game, albeit it takes much longer with BT/DS

The best thing you can do is bring these perks, loop best you can, and pray your teammates sit on generators instead of trying to be altruistic. That way, by the time the killer has tunnelled you out of the game and brute forced past your BT/DS, all 5 generators are over and they're left with a 1k.

Depends on the killer as well, if a Nurse/Blight is tunnelling, well... good luck lmfao

You die, that's it. The only question is how many gens get done. It sucks and is frustrating to be on the hook for your match. Loops as long as you can, stay on the hook for the entire duration to give the team gen time. Don't be a selfish ######### & let yourself die on hook. Waste as much killer time as you can even in death.

Best case the gens get done, 1 or two team mates come get you off and body block. Maybe you have a shot at getting to the exit gates with BT, DS, DH. But 99% of the time you're dead if the killer stays focused on you.

If a killer want you dead then your not gonna escape. Ds isn’t gonna help much, and if the killer is going after you even tho your team is trying to take hits then can do anything but just take as much time away from the killer until you die. I had a Match vs a blight yesterday and I got tunnel out. With me getting tunneled, 3 gens were done with one left. 3 man escape. I got 20k but depiped from that match

If you are good at looping.

Unbreakable + No mither + Decisive + Dead Hard.

Or use the same build but wasting every pallet on the map, if your mates are efficient at gens, the Game should be done until you waste last pallet.

Get better at looping that's about all you can do. I've recently got to the point where killers will just abandon chase with me because I'm wasting so much of there time. This also helps with been tunneled because unless they catch me right off the hook they know chasing me might cost them the rest of there gens and maybe even the exit gate.

    AsherFrost Member Posts: 2,340

    Also, don't take Ds.

    Seriously.

Let me explain. Decisive Strike is anti-tunnel, not tunnel-cancellation. Meaning the value you will get from Ds is fully up to how good you already are at loops, mind games and hiding. In my view, therefore it is better to improve those core concepts through repetition, and then once you are at the point where killers are breaking off chases with you because theynarent catching you, start taking DS. That way, when you do use it, you are much, much better prepared to do so effectively.

You want to unhook a person when:

    1. When the Killer is not near by.
    2. When the Killer is not right next to you.
    3. The Killer is occupied and invested in doing something else.
    4. Its up to your Teammates to take the Killer's attention, if they don't, the Killer might come back to the hook.

What to do when you unhooked them:

    1. Heal them fast.
    2. Make noise, if the Killer is coming, Hope it gets their attention.
    3. Should the Killer have spotted you & the unhooked, you must body block against the Killer.
    4. Should the Killer have spotted only you, Do not run somewhere safe with pallets, as that could make the Killer feel more inclined search for the unhooked instead.

    Good Luck.

I find there's two tactics I rely on when it comes to killers who relentlessly tunnel

Either build a loadout to specifically counter it - the build that comes to mind would be something like Dead Hard, DS, Camaraderie/Kinship and either an anti-slugging perk or another perk to help in another way. Lately i've not been running builds like this since I've been to improve my fundementals but if I'm being tunnelled from the get-go I'll usually swap to something like this

Alternatively, a tactic I've been messing with lately is stealth. If a killer wants to tunnel you, he has to find you first and with the right perks you can make that an absolute nightmare

    Run.

Killers don't owe you anything. Make yourself easier to hit, you'll be hit more often. Wearing bright colors implies you're good enough to get away. Don't dress up like someone who can get away if you're not someone who can get away.

Again, not our job to help you win, killers are the other team.

    Hey there.

As a killer main I have to say it honestly depends a lot on survivor behaviour.

If you teabag and go for risky saves with flashlight and obvious disrespect for the killer I'm gonna tunnel. If you obviously want me to chase and are crazy good at loops I'm anti-tunnel you specifically. If all survivors hide and we are at 3 or 2 gens and I finally find someone I tunnel because I know you will save and I can maybe snowball. If exit gates are open and I have no kill AND survivors start teabagging I tunnel.

If non of that happens? I rather go for 4 hooks and 1 or 2 kill than tunneling. Much more fun.

I can't talk for everyone but for me I just react most of the time.

Why do people play the "no brain cells" card because Killers play in a way that WORKS?

Hey, for me, this scenario is the one that i get placed in

I spawn in game, wear pink clothes, killer see me, killer catch me, killer hook me, i get unhooked, an then tunneled.

I usualy spawn and then get found

wells i have faced a bunch of tunneling killers in my matches since i played dead by daylight and what i do is block them all, block them on steam asap, and then you mark and report them for tunneling.

I win the next chase instead of losing it.

  • pseudechis

These are the best suggestions. Sound judgement combined with changing gameplay to counter elements you may dislike or struggle to deal with.

Also remeber survivor is a team game camping and tunneling doesn't get punished by you its gets punished by your team mates. The goal is to make sure i fbeing camped/tunneled then the killer uses as much time as possible to allow for your team mates to get the objective done.

If you are solo and in a PUG then expect that it may not be as efficient at this as a SWF, so escape will probably be more random and varied than with an organized group of friends with discord.

    fogdonkey Member Posts: 1,567

Your team has to deal with it. Body block the killer, take hits so that you can hide and heal up. After that you need to play very stealthy if you are dead on hook.

  • pseudechis
    pseudechis Member Posts: 3,904

Tunneling isn't reportable all you are doing is clogging up a system for legitimate reports with useless ones.

Block whomever you wish its your block list but reporting people for legit in game play that upsets you is just silly.

  • drsoontm
    drsoontm Member Posts: 4,903

You cannot really do anything about it. If a killer who already got you once wants to get you out, he'll most probably succeed.

Usually it's your team's job to protect you. Tunneling is a form of pressure, as is camping.

If your team is smart enough, you'll dangle on the hook for as long as you can (maybe until you are sacrificed) and they'll push the gens. It's not really fun but it's the game.

To mitigate this : do not bring tools, do not wear flashy skins, do not try in any way to attract the attention of the killer. Crouch, don't make noise, don't fart. My usual build is : Iron will, Dead Hard, Spine chill, Alert on a Claudette. Don't use P3 Claudette though, they are usually killed on sight on principle.

    One example from yesterday.

As survivor, one teammate was wearing the Rift-70 heart outfit and a flashlight. He was clearly going to troll the killer (Artist) and of course the killer made a point getting him out of the game. We have body blocked, taken protection hits, healed, flashlighted, destroyed hooks, muddied the tracks ... all the usual tricks. We did 4 gens before the first kill and only one of us survived. We have kind of thrown the game but it was a lot of fun.

As killer I often need to get someone out ASAP. If the team chooses to rush the gens and leave it's not very fun and I get one kill. Meh. However if they chose to defend him it's a lot of fun. They often succeed to make me lose him using the same tactics I cited in the previous paragraph. This is also true when I play the Nurse (although body blocking a Nurse is a futile exercise, the rest works just fine : a Nurse's worst weakness is tracking survivors).

    Tunneling is not reportable.

Blocking people on Steam and/or in-game does not prevent you from being matched with them.

You're literally taking a complex series of steps and wasting your own time for zero effect.
