It's not racist lol
I was in game, playing as Claudette, and one player suicided; another slugged and another was being chased. (It was RPD which I don't play on by choice because I hate that map); but the slugged person dc'd. In the end chat, she stated that I didn't know how to play. I told her I did and that I hated that map because people crawl around and it's difficult to find a route to them.
She stated: "I'm not stereotyping, but your a Claudette, so your opinion doesn't matter. That's not racist."
And, to cap it off, another person agreed with her.
Turns out both were streaming and live....lol

It's not. Claudette players skulk around the map instead of playing more than any other character.

The second someone adds "but" to a sentence like that you know you're in for a treat
19 -
I don't even get why he has to say "not racist" because hating claudette has nothing to do with race.
31 -
Uhh hard to say if it was racist or not.
Personally, i doubt it was meant racist.
Its just that tons of claudette player only hide and crawl around. (yes, they use her necause of her dark skin but thats not the fault of the others that they gave that survivor a bad rep with that)

Meg and Kate players:
2 -
Strangely I wonder how certain survivors got these stereotypes...like Meg or Dwight for example......I can see Claudette....she is master of The Art Of The Bush. She can hide almost everywhere and safe, I don't know how many times I was hidden inside a bush on Glendale as the Killer was standing right next to me and not seeing me. But I never skulk around when there is no fear of the Killer being nearby.

It's not racist, lol. A lot of people dislike Claudette because of how they play.
19 -
I've never seen much of an issue with Kates.
Megs have a bad reputation because they're often new. Claudettes are the same except the people who like to hide keep playing her after being new.
5 -
Its just a stereotype like Locker dweller Dwight or Meg heads.
Basically all base survivors have some kind of bad reputation.

No, they are talking about typical claudette and not exactly you.

I thought she did. From your post- " In the end chat, she stated that I didn't know how to play". That's from your first post.
Edit- @fulltonon is right. A lot of people dislike how a lot of Claudette players play her.

Its not an racism problem on dbd, is that fact of a lot of player are stupid and useless ( and play Meg )

Claudettes are well known for being immersed players, particularly P3 Claudettes. With darker areas of the map combined with Claudettes dark skin and the way P3 cosmetics blend in well, the classic 'Blendette' meme was born.
It isn't racist at all but unfortunately we live in an age where lunatics have to look under every stone and in every backyard to try to find something to be outraged about and Twitch is full of such people.
Best bet is to ignore them and move on, if you buy into their nonsense they often see it as weakness and they will try to impose more on you.
11 -
Like i said, its hard to tell.
Theres definitely racist people but theres are people who really dont mean it in a racist way.
1 -
What do people say about Jake's?
0 -
Really matters the context but it's probably not racist because a lot of people hate how claudettes usually play.
1 -
Ahh c’mon…That’s not racist. And they probably felt the need to put that disclaimer out there because of all the race-baiting / identity politics that goes on these days.
4 -
If they would not have added the part "Thats not racist", would you have thought they said it because of Claudettes skin Color? Just curious here.
Because people really complain about Claudettes sitting in some Corners or in Bushes. Which is indeed a stereotype. The person probably felt the need to add that it is not because of the Skin Color.
2 -
Exactly. Just like bubba players face camp more than others. Its not a stereotype if its true.
2 -
It became racist the second they mentioned it is not, because apparently Claud's race was in his mind and relevant when he stated that
1 -
I dont know about racists, in this context.
I play a claudette mainly, and yes, because i like the (now heavily nerfed) stealth aspect of this game. For me, its more hide and seek than a game of tag. Not only is she small and dark, but on p3 she also has perfect camoflage patterns in her base kit. i had games where i hid and coulndt even see myself.
So yes, a lot of stealth players will go to claudette, but there are still different types. I do gens all game, i unhook, and i even go into chases, but i am not good at them unless i can juke the killer, and that highly depends on the map and the pallets that are left.
But then there are claudettes that like to hide somewhere save, like far away from unfinished gens, near a locker to hide inside if bbq is an issue. They are way not that many than people seem to think, but they do exist.
And yes, i had games were people let me die becasue i played a claudette, even though i still had more points than them, because i did actually things worth my time in the match.
For some players, the game just resolves around chases, and if you dont take part in them, then you doing it wrong (in their eyes). Thats just the way it is.

And the post below yours with perfect comedic timing:
At this point in time...I get the disclaimer. Schrodinger's Bigotry is alive and well in cyberspace.
While it hasn't happened for a while, I've had enough players accuse me of tunneling/slugging/killing/x 'because I'm playing Claudette/Elodie/wearing a Pride charm etc'. that I have to start using my toes to keep count.
'Tis the times we live in, sadly.
XD
Claudettes - love to hide.
Megs - either completely new or insanely good.
Dwights - ditto, but the good ones are incredibly toxic. Any Dwight in a silly outfit is going to drive you insane. But...not generally as bad as Aces or Ash's.
I...actually put together a thread on survivor 'types' a bit back: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/301250/survivor-profiles-stereotypes
I'm a terrible survivor and mostly play Yui :).
Yeah, it's a strange new world we live in. I watch a fair few streamers, and it's unfortunate how they all seem to be walking on eggshells lest something they say get misconstrued or deliberately twisted into something that could be interpreted as an expression of bigotry.
Weirdly enough, most modern stereotypes start with a grain of truth.
This is what I mean by Schrodinger's Bigotry.
If denying a thing makes you guilty of that thing...were all in big trouble.
4 -
I get it.
My guess is that he complained about sneaky Claudettes and got called a racist before, because it's easy to twist 'the color palette of your avatar makes it easy to conceal yourself on dark maps and you take advantage of it in an annoying way' into 'you are making a judgement about my avatar based on the fact that she's black'.
0 -
What they said wasn't racist, but the fact that they had to finish it with "That's not racist" says something about them doesn't it.
3 -
My best friend is gay and my girlfriend is actually bi and yet i keep getting trashtalked :
,,You only went for me because of the Pride charm!!"
They just use every excuse they can find.
3 -
It says that people have accused him of it before, and so he's trying to head that off?
I saw this a lot in the latter half of last year, but fortunately not for a while.
I think it grew out of a silly bit of Twitter drama, where a red said something that was widely interpreted as 'if you tunnel someone wearing a Pride pin and that person believed it was because of the pin, we're going to ban people'.
They did clarify, but by then the damage was done.
Twitter was a mistake.
1 -
That just feels the same as "nice guys" who have to tell everyone how nice they. I think they pretty much did the old "I'm not racist but...".
1 -
'I'm not racist but...' usually means 'please don't misinterpret what I'm about to say'.
Not 'I'm actually a racist'.
Again, if a denial of racism is evidence of racism, we're all in big trouble as a species.

This, case closed. Virtuosity duly noted, however.

I'm not evil, but I genuinely think that candy tastes the best when it's stolen from a baby.

kate players better

Absolutely not? Kate players are awful

I'm not saying people who deny being racist are racist, alot of the time when you hear that phrase they end up saying something pretty stereotypical or kind of offensive towards that group, even if they don't intend to offend.
I'm not saying for a second that this guy OP is talking about is definitely racist because of what they said. Its just amusing they had to bring race into it about Claudette when I'm sure that would not be on the mind of any rational person. You don't need to emphasise you're not a racist if you're not one or if you haven't said anything racist.
Though with that said, I do get that cancel culture has put people on edge with this kind of topic

I find shirtless David players and Dwights in cute outfits to be the worst. More so the Dwights; some of the shirtless Davids have been cool but almost never a Dwelf or Dwight dressed like that. With both though, they're generally so cocky they get themselves and/or their team killed.
0 -
Yep. People tend to add this disclaimer because they are on edge - thanks to a plague of wokebullying clout-chasers that infest basically every corner of social media. We're now at a point where anything that can be even slightly perceived as 'problematic', no matter if it's entirely innocuous, can get you into serious trouble.
It's sort of a preemptive strike against this...frustrating trend.

When I saw this thread I was worried it was gonna be another Bubba mask thread
big sigh of relief when it wasn't

Don't use the term 'race'. There is no biological basis for human races, and never has been. The concept of race is the result of racism, not its prerequisite. Means, for example, that my DNA can be much more similar to a chinese person than a guy of my own ethnicity. However, the phenotypic differences between me and a chinese don't allow much conclusions to be drawn about the differences in our DNA. That is why the term 'race' has long since become obsolete.
It's not always clear whether or not Claudette is hated cuz of her skin color. I think in most cases it's the character itself and the prejudices that come with it. Nevertheless, I still notice many racist and homophobic hostilities in the DBD community.
1 -
"claudette players dont do anything" has the same energy as "girls dont want to date nice guys"
yall just need to blame something everytime you play, huh?
1 -
Eh...that's a complex discussion and really does boil down to semantics. Not going to run with it because it'll go way off topic.
I don't think the vast, vast, vast majority of DbD players dislike any character based on skin color. For Claudette, it's purely a utilitarian advantage - in that it allows her to be naturally camouflaged on dark maps, which killer players find really frustrating at times.

There are no jake players
0 -
Yeah but t
1 -
Not from my experince... people who aren't racist don't really feel the need to say they aren't racist.
1 -
Hey, I'm a Kate player and I never skulk around
2 -
"which killer players find really frustrating at times"
And other survivors, too. I automatically leave any lobby with 2+ Claudettes, because I know they won't take aggro: anyone who's not a Claudette will get quickly tunneled out simply because they're the ones the killer can see. At least it's funny sometimes to crouch behind the Claudette hiding in a bush because they decided to stealth away after a bad save, causing the killer to accidentally hit them (I love when the killer is visibly confused), otherwise I'd ditch lobbies with even a single Claudette.
