Playing Nurse is frustrating

Nos37
Nos37 Member Posts: 4,142

I struggle to find survivors. Then I struggle to keep line of sight. Then I struggle to land hits. Then Dead Hard. The gens are done by the time I have 2 or 3 hooks.

I use BBQ and Spies from the Shadows to find survivors. I use Lightborn and Iron Grasp to counter bodyblocks and flashlight robberies (because if I'm going to go through hell to get a down, I'm not letting them steal a hook state from me).

The only time the survivors stop hiding is when they've powered the exit gates and realize they only have 5k points and need to milk more out of me before teabagging in the exit.

I don’t sympathize for nurses it’s either a god nurse or an awful nurse no true in between, with that said I think the truth is with experience I think you will learn her abs become a pain for survivors if you continue trying

    This.

It took me hundreds of hours to get decent at her and even then I still had days where I struggled. Nurse is not easy and you can dismiss outright those who try to claim they mastered her in a few hours. Against baby no brain survivors you will have no trouble but against half decent survivors you don't just get easy 4k matches back to back.

There are a lot of okay Nurses but not many god like Nurses for that reason - it takes a long time to get really good and you are probably gonna be bullied a LOT. Most give up and in all honesty that is probably what makes Nurse bearable, as everyone being gods would get a bit much pretty quickly

Use Deadmans, Scourge hooks especially the one that gives 7 seconds or aura when someone unhooks, and Make your choice. Games will get really fun.

She is the hardest killer to master in the game. You aren't gonna win every match and a part of learning and improving with ANY killer in this game is that you aren't gonna 4k. Personally, I don't see how this is something to complain about. That is part of almost any pvp game.

Run whisper for your 1st time. I run this when I was learning huntress and nurse. Keep an eye on the crows in case they are startled.

Stack 3 slowdowns + bbq and run double recharge or recahrge + range and the game plays itself for you - nurse is not that hard

    Corrupt.

If you dont use it and people do gens you'll lose alot of gens or just gen progress in general.

Having said that nurse takes practice, while I dont think shes the hardest to learn or play she still requires alot of practice.

I'd say just keep at it, and make sure you arent mixing up addons, changing her addons changes alot of things from range etc.

Also BBQ and spies isnt that great. Bbq is only when you hook people and spies just doesnt show much, I'd recommend trying to play/learn to find and follow people without them. Would help in the long run too

One day, like magic, a Bad Nurse gets her wings and becomes a God.

Considering I've seen how some forum members, who consider themselves good at her, actually play her, I'd say I'm pretty decent

Playing Nurse takes time, discipline, and above all: a good sense of survivors movements.

There are currently 2 tactics most commonly implemented by Nurse players: Reactive, and Predictive.

Reactive: These players use the Nurses Blink ability to follow a survivors pathing, and react to how they react to her movements. You can blink to a survivors last position .3 seconds ago, and still have .5 seconds to react to where they move, so if they move behind an object, and you Blink to their last visible position, you see wherein they are moving next and can again react to that for your next blink, or in the case of them back tracking, attack. This tactic is very effective for a new Nurse player, but also easy to avoid once a survivor learns of it.

Predictive: You actively predict where the survivor will be, regardless of obstacles, and either blink right on their position or right ahead of it. This tactic is very advanced, but at the same time easy to avoid once a survivor learns of it.

After I've defined these 2 tactics... do you see the thing in common with both of them?

Survivors aren't stupid, so, to be a true Nurse MONSTER to the survivor community... you have to master being the 3'rd and most rare type of Nurse player: The Adaptive!

This is a Nurse who recognizes any survivors who have previous experience of either the reactive Nurse, or the predictive one, and employs their blinks in contrast to what they're expecting! You have to have a fluid sense of mind, and an immediate sense of situation to both play against this kind of survivor, and adapt on the fly. For a seasoned Nurse recognizing a survivors playstyle, based upon the Nurses they've encountered thus far, only 1 or 2 chases is enough to suss them out, but once you discover what catches them off guard, and down them, they might still might try to change their tactics, and so you must be willing to change yours as well. No one says this will be easy!

THIS IS WHY THE NURSE IS A VERY HARD LEVEL OF KILLER TO PLAY, and it's what makes her the most exciting! Her tactics and skill take much more time to become simply "decent" with against any equally "decent-good" survivor, and it takes FAR more time to "Master" her against other "Master" survivors! Because of this, she is often seen as one of the ONLY killers capable of keeping up with, and even able to challenge the highest SBMM survivors. To me, that makes her actually fun to both play as and play against, because no matter what level of skill you play at, she can meet and challenge it.

What I'm saying is... I know you don't like her right now, but trust me, she's far more powerful and capable than you know at the moment, and NO, that's not including add-on or Perk combos, because a truly skilled Nurse can still "win" or at the minimum, "put up a decent fight" (without perks or add-ons) against the highest SBMM Survivors... and that scares them (but honestly though, it should invigorate and inspire them to take the challenge head on and do better).

She is probably the only killer designed around a "high effort = high reward." Regardless, it's well earned, so don't give up on her, and you'll understand why after enough time playing her (if you have the patience to put up with it, which, surprise, most "Reward me now/entitled" players don't). It takes a minimum of 20 hours playing her exclusively to just get "decent" or at the least "good" with Nurse... and sadly it take 3x that to become a "Master" with her, and at least 2x that to become a "GOD"... Funny enough, no other killer in this game takes nearly that long. However, amongst all the killers in the roster... Nurse, is actually WORTH the effort! This is probably the only thing the devs have gotten right IMO.

    Edit:

Stop complaining. Decide if you are willing to put in the effort to master her, or simple give up instead of coming here to complain about it. She's Very Hard to learn, but I promise you: If you devote at least 50 hours into playing her exclusively, you'll be more than "decent" and well on your way to "Mastering" her, and if you actually do "Master" her... you'll actually start to pity the survivors you face. Not because she's "broken" or "OP" mind you, but because you damn well earned your skill level with her, and there are very few survivors out there that can compete/say the same.

Nurse is arguably the hardest killer in terms of skill, but as a reward for that, she is by far the hardest killer to go against. Her power essentially circumnavigates all the things that go in favor of the survivors (pallets, windows, etc.). Looping is useless against a good nurse and the only counter to her power is to break line of sight.

The hypotheticals you're talking about do not apply to every survivor you go against. I play solo-queue mostly and when you say all gens are popped within 3 hooks that just doesn't happen often (I wish all my solo-queue team mates were that efficient 🤣).

Another thing I would add, because it's just obvious, is that when it comes to cosmetics, you should use a weapon that is either very slim, or has a huge "see through" gap in it. The reason being because her Weapon Wipe animation takes up Quarter of your screen, and anything that allows you to still see where a survivor is going in that lower right Quarter is a godsend for any killer, but especially a Nurse player. I Don't CARE how "pretty", "aesthetically pleasing" or "menacing" the weapon is, if it's a detriment to your view point or tracking ability, it doesn't belong in your arsenal.

I mean, you're a player so no, you dont need to play like an ass saying "I'm a killer and..." now, that doesn't mean you shouldn't camp. There are times where camping is neccesary indeed but if you had the chance to go for the first, don't be an ass, the other person is trying to have fun, too. Again, if you know there are survivors nearby or attempting a hook rsscue then yes, perfect, camp if you need but smart players won't go for a survivor that is camping. If you're playing for less than a week then that's the reason behind your thoughts, not playing against smart survivors. The camping strategy only works for so long. ..

Also, everything I mentioned above in my original comment/response to the OP, does well to make you a better Nurse player. While I don't agree that only 1 week of playing will make you fantastic with her (unless you played for around 50 hours, which makes you obviously well into the Decent-Good range and working towards the Master or God tier, which only she can achieve at the highest SBMM level IMO), It only fairs for you in comparison against the level of survivors you are facing, and 1 week may not be enough to make her "the strongest killer in the game" in anyone else's experience.

While I agree that she IS the strongest, I also believe it takes a lot more effort than a week of playing for a player to get there with her.

Still, like Plague, she's one of the least picked killers, and thus most survivor players don't know how to face her... which is probably working towards your advantage (I know it does when I play Plague), but when you do reach high SBMM level with her, and start facing survivors who know how to counter her, I hope you won't complain about it, and instead just realize what tactics you have to change, and adapt well to keep the survivors on their toes. You do that, and yes... You will have mastered the best killer in the game.

Here's hoping the dev's don't decide to nerf her again.

I had a few mactches where gens didn't fly by, but I made the mistake of sacrifing them. Now my rating has gone up and I'm stuck in matches against very efficient survivors.

Learning Nurse takes a lot of time.

If you have learned to blink properly (meaning to land on about every spot from every angle on every map), only focus on search & chases. Don't even think about "winning".

I usually use Infectious fright, whispers, BBQ, and Starstuck for body-blockers (and to snowball when they f*-up). No addons. Other detection perks are good too (Nurses, that one from Ghostface, Spies, ...) There are way stronger builds but they are nasty and do not really help to improve the chases.

Spies may help you a lot. It's rarely used and survivors who mind the crows are pretty rare.
