Does the Ranks being hidden mean what I think it does.
Say it's true.

Uhhh, I think so Brain but where are we going to find a rubber duck suit big enough to fit on the moon?
12 -
...What do you think it means?
Legit, I don't know.

Peanits said it’s intentional so
2 -
Hey man all I'm saying is if MMR is off Rejoice!
2 -
MMR Off. back to "Grade based Matchmaking"
0 -
Ahhhh.
God, I hope not. Going back to that nightmare would be a straight downgrade.
8 -
Better grade based than (s)kill based
8 -
Hard disagree, it would be admitting MMR doesn't work in this game, which it doesn't; it also doesn't protect new players because people can still downgrade their MMR for easier matches.
5 -
Categorically not. I feel like I'm the only one who remembers how awful the emblem system of matchmaking was.
4 -
Please be MMR off, Please be MMR off 🤞
2 -
The mmr is flawed, at least with grade based you had to pip up, with mmr you just gotta kill or escape
1 -
One can only hope. 🦀

Nope, I'm with you as well. I don't want mmr off either and I don't want emblem matchmaking either.
2 -
I would take any of the previous matchmaking systems over MMR. The game isn't even remotely balanced enough for an MMR system to be a good idea.
The game functions in this state of terrible balance because of the bad matchmaking. It covered up the balance problems.
4 -
Better to fix the thing that's actually wrong with the MMR rather than abandoning it and going back to a system that's proven not to work. I'd assume that grades being hidden is really just testing grades being hidden, since a lot of people mistakenly assume that the rank of their opponents was a sign of faulty matchmaking.
1 -
Completely agreed it's time 🦀
2 -
Interesting maybe the time has come 🦀

If that is true, it is the best decision BHVR has made for some years now (i mean apart of the great work from the art team and the last IPs).
Let's see how it goes and if it is so let's all thank them for this.
2 -
It was not the best experience bu it was wayyyy better than what SBMM is/has been.
2 -
You can't fix whats wrong with MMR because it would require a complete game overhaul and Behavior doesn't have the time to invest in such a process that would take them 20+ years, they didn't wanna even invest in fixing the grind for 10 years, what makes you think they're willing to do so in Dead by Daylight. You wanna fix MMR shut it off, admit Dead by Daylight is casual, and move on to balancing the game.
4 -
I\m with you on this brother this has potential to be the best moment in Dead by Daylight if True. 🦀
0 -
I'm... sorry, I don't follow?
What's wrong with the MMR system is that it broadens the matching criteria too much too quickly. Fixing that doesn't require a complete game overhaul?
Also, what does it being casual matter? Casual games still need matchmaking.
1 -
I'd like ranks/grades to be hidden permanently, regardless of whether mmr is on/off.
1 -
MMR is designed for games that have taken the steps to implement Behavior skipped past those steps and instead pushed it live, and that's the reason its hated so much also yes, it doesn't work period nothing is wrong with it being casual but casual games don't use competitive ranking systems.
0 -
I mean nothing would change with the rewards you'd still get those that can be easily done. It's also tied to the Emblem system which I'm assuming is what's being used.
0 -
MMR isn't a "competitive ranking system", it's just a matchmaking system. The quick-play modes on any game with a ranked ladder still use an MMR system to match people.
Now, if your point is that changing matchmaking doesn't fix game balance issues, I agree- but those game balance issues were still there under the emblem system and they were just as bad. It's a problem that needs fixing either way, MMR is irrelevant.
3 -
God I'd love to do grade based matchmaking again.
3 -
You are not. My games were much more random and fun. Sometimes I'd get a lobby of green ranks that inexplicably spanked me. Sometimes I'd get red ranks who were terrible. That each game had that sort of variance kept me engaged.
Things are rote now. Predictable. If I 4k a couple of times I'm going to go against obnoxious full meta survivors. If I beat them I'm going to be paired vs. teams I have no reasonable way of beating, which is frustrating and unfun. The implementation is so straightforward and simple that it's moronic.

MMR is in 99% of competitive games; it is indeed a competitive ranking system; it works on the principal of you getting higher quality matches that's indeed competitive. MMR, by it's, own definition, is competitive.
1 -
It's in like, most PvP games, though. And again, most "competitive" games are actually broken up into casual and ranked modes, both of which utilise an MMR system.
By its definition it is competitive, yes, but so is DBD- it's PvP, it's just not a particularly serious or tournament-oriented game.
2 -
You do realize prior to changing to MMR they made it so you couldn't derank that design came from the emblem system; you realize this correct? secondly, yes they're testing but assuming MMR is off which hasn't been confirmed is going to get a lot of positive feedback sure some comp players will be mad just like they were for Stretched Res being gone but the majority will be happy again.
1 -
Dead by Daylight has competitive aspects, but the one thing that stops it from being "competitive" is RNG there's too much of it an example is Trapper and Pig, they both focus off RNG another example is Map layouts each map has the potential to spawn different loops, you can't call Dead by Daylight competitive when it has this much RNG. That's always been the problem and that's why so many people are against MMR the game wasn't built for it.
1 -
I mean it was, but either way it's not hard to code in there was a point in time where you couldn't go past a certain rank; it's the same principal, just further expanded in MMR can easily be done.

Imagine saying that because MMR is broken you have to fix it instead of 'going back to broken emblems', as if you couldn't say the exact same thing about fixing emblems in preference to MMR lol.
Even if MMR did its job perfectly it would still be bad because the game is not suited to it
2 -
How's Grades being hidden translate to MMR being turn off?
2 -
Fixing emblems would be a much more significant task than fixing MMR. That system was unfit for purpose from the ground up; the way that you pipped, variance within a grade, how inconsistently it applied across different killers and survivor playstyles, the way it matched players, how it accounted for groups, and so on and so forth.
MMR, by contrast, calculates the number perfectly adequately + consistently, and then suffers from some oversights in the matching portion. Much less of it is broken, and therefore fixing it is the more economical use of time and resources.
1 -
it just means that they don't show your grade anymore, because too many players complained about playing against "iri grades" while they themselve are ash. They don't understand that grades have no influence over skill or matchmaking.
1 -
Remember, when they went to migrate to MMR they took the ranks away because they added the "new grade icons" so they went to the Killer and Survivor icons prior to turning MMR on. Also I just played a good amount of matches and it's 100% off feels grade based for sure.

I am just happy the grades are hidden. They were not a example of skill, and too many players have been bullying/harassing other players about them for far too long. It's so dumb that players put so much value in grades, when they literally only speak for how much you played in the last month - absolutely nothing more.
4 -
The game just wasn't built to be balanced and it shows
2 -
They are doing mmr test, the same as last week.

Smurfing will always be a thing, but it was infinitely worse under ranks. We even had Fog Whisperers doing it openly.
I started in the heyday of ranks.
SBMM is way better. The system still parks a turd occasionally, but I'd say the majority of my games now feel at least somewhat even. A few days during the matchmaking tests felt even better!
How do I know MMR works? Veteran players are complaining about games being more difficult.
This means they're getting matched against fewer newbies.
If this were the case, that would be the day I find a different game to play.
It's not. They've been talking about it for a bit. Grade is now hidden, because people kept assuming that it was connected to matchmaking and getting annoyed, especially if they come in at the end of the month and it looks very uneven.
2 -
Yes. Because competitive games need good matchmaking. This doesn't mean that MMR is 'competitive', it means that it tends to produce better matchmaking than other systems.
You've gone 'A' =
'C' =
Therefore A = C
When it actually looks more like:
'A' = 'B'
'C' = requires 'B'.
Therefore 'A' and 'C' are correlated via 'B', but 'A' does not equal 'C'.
Correlation does not always mean causation.
2 -
I definitely remember and it was not any better than currently, it is why I always say MMR wasn't that huge of a change. Ranks are still pretty based around time spent which means once you reach Iridescent 1, almost all skill levels are combined lol
3 -
Yeah.
Starting out under ranks was horrible. It was wall to wall smurfing SWFs, and then they removed killer matchmaking protections completely. You can see some of my earliest posts on the forums were after 8 or 9 games of crushing losses and incredibly BM smurf teams, I was still facing purple and red rank SWFs with hundreds of hours more than me.
The current SBMM system definitely poops the sheets from time to time (I've actually seen a marked improvement in match quality by simply dodging a lobby anyone else has already dodged) but there's plenty of room to improve it - because some days this test cycle have felt incredibly even.
1 -
I think it means their system is broken and they don't want us to know that they have absolutely NO idea what they're doing.
If the matchmaking system was so intelligent and profound - they'd have no trouble letting us know what it is.
The game is too poorly designed for this to work.
In reality, All you'd have to do is make a system that recognizes past performance and takes recent performance into account.
Call Of Duty did this better a decade ago with a SPM system - which could be implemented with Bloodpoints virtually over night - and would have the hidden benefit of pushing Disconnecting players, campers, and hackers into the garbage bin over night.

Yeah, I don't miss the smurfs at all. I remember when I didn't play killer as consistently and just hovered around green/yellow I'd constantly match with a rank 16-20 survivor swf with their red rank friends to get baby killers (as opposed to like a true baby survivor being shown the game with friends and stuff) or like an entire team with thousands of hours that were lower thanks than they should be.
0 -
Time to play killer then, I'm yellow lol

I think it's nostalgia blinding people. When we had ranks matchmaking still was pretty bad and there were numerous posts everyday demanding to change it.
2 -
You’re not the only one. People who think the old rank system was better are delusional with nostalgia or something.
