comp and casual dbd discussion
this is a discussion of how to best make the game decent at base level for competition and even casual play
first idea.... judge players INDIVIDUALLY as a group a survivors top priority should always be to escape while still being rewarded for their contribution to the group... some people literally do all of the work and have no points to show for it at the end of the match when they should realistically have close to same amount as the survivors who escaped do to their efforts (this would make it so survivors who get camped and tunneled would have a better chance of retaining some of their skill socially when the end game numbers come into play..)
the only downside to this is that you would always have to stick around to the end of the game to see how many points you got even after you died... if a survivor throws the game it severely hurts others in the point category this is a real problem and i wish people like that didnt stand in the way of a good system but it will happen if it happens early on maybe the other survivors automatically get a specific multiplier to their actions as the game has become so much more difficult..
all it is really is knowing how many blood points are available each match and how to prevent trolls from trolling them away from others...
Separate casual and ranked play
casual play would stay the same and ranked would disable the ability to qeue with people you know but at the start of every match you will be able to see other survivors perks to optimize their match... (Ex. me and this person is running a build for this and we need a build for this and it doesnt seem like they are giving it up so i will switch) this way it is all pretty much swf and the game doesnt have voice chat so i think it is safe to say you arent supposed to use one..
they could make up for this by adding new emotes to the game that players will hopefully use to give certain signals....
changes to maps and gameplay
make three gen situations less viable (this will help)
when a player is hooked for the first time they stay on the hook until rescued or until all other survivors are hooked and also when they are hooked survivors dont get an aura notification and the range of the survivors scream is reduced though they do get that blurred visual circle thing.. (makes camping feel less like an option without deleting its use completely as knowing when survivors are around would be the inspiration for it...) (also kindred loses the survivor aura but still shows the killers in their general area)
these are personal things i would change i wish i could play the game with these changes but i play on console we dont get end-game chat or the option to play with keyboard and mouse even so yeah...
let me know how you think the game could be made easier for serious competition without destroying the fun...

This game will never ever be competitive

What do you mean? it already has a comp scene. Swishs tournament was well put together. Very interesting and entertaining.

I think what Pulsar means, is that the base game will never be competitive.
Sure, the tournaments are competitive, but the base game is more or less a ranked party game

that's definitely subjective I personally think those tournaments are absolutely boring to watch

Whilst I respect what Swish tried to do, those tournaments made it clear how far comp DBD truly is from reality.

You mean custom games out by the community. That isn't a comp scene, what you described are skirmishes.

Its a PvP with the win condition being the objective of one side against the other which is by definition already competitive.
Yet its confusing for most people since the game isnt balanced enough to be rightfully called this way, in objective, map, interactable objects, item and perk design.
One side has an broken advantage above the other which is why the game can't be taken seriously in the overall comp game scene. You actually have to modify it with specific rules and can only play certain maps for a somewhat balanced match.
To play "casual" is not rewarded within the game its basically throwing your objective but you can do it to eventually reach a fun moment.
To reach your objective only a limited amount of skill is necessary. While individual skill levels and tactical understanding are testet against each other in chase and situational decision making they are not the core point which decides the outcome of a game and the reward.
This game rewards cheap tactics "Camping Bubbas" (Kills to Effort Ratio), people who only want to play with the highest advantage "comp Nurses/Blight" (High Mobility Killer with low Chase Time/Effort) and Toxic Behaviourism Bully Squad SWFs who want to milk non viable Killers for fun and bloodpoints (Stun lock tech into flashlight into blastmine etc.). Yet people are questioning why the community is so toxic.
If you are looking for a skill based competitive game leave dbd.

This. There is no such thing as competitive dbd. There are way too many restrictions/rulesets and this is done with the express purpose to make it more entertaining to watch - not make it more competitive. DBD should be appreciated for what it is…. a party game that many players became good at and/or have op/super strong builds that carry them xD.

I don't think we will ever reach a place where this game would be balanced for competetive play. There is just so much work ahead and not every big patch makes the game more balanced in some bigger way. Maybe it would be possible in like 3-4 years from now if every new patch is good and many many reworks of maps / killers along the way.

Lol so many people equaling esports with competitiveness.
The game is competitive, but not balanced enough for esports, apparantly.

Game already has:
casual mode: KYF - log in and hang out with your friends all day and 360 each other
Ranked: public matches
