AFK Pig is officially dead
The Pig
- Added an extra Jigsaw Box to all matches
- Survivors are guaranteed to find the key for their Reverse Beartrap at a maximum of 4 boxes searched (It can still be found sooner, but you will never need to search more than 4 boxes)
Dev Note: Some Pig players have been camping out in front of the final Jigsaw Box, blocking a survivor from being able to get rid of their Reverse Beartrap. With these changes, this strategy will no longer work!

awesome so bizzare how people parroted this as a legitimate and fair strategy

Doesnt seem like a bad change. Will have to see how it impacts pigs normal gameplay in terms of box distribution on maps and so on.

Great afk pig was annoying and unfair ( could be my bias talking)
5 -
This means that Survivors now have a 20% chance of finding the key in one box. It's essentially a weaker version of old Sketch as basekit.
This is a net buff for Pig. Now we just need to make first box auto-fail.

Yes.
Strange how they used direct quotes from the devs themselves.
It WAS legitimate but lame enough to be changed.
3 -
Good riddance.
3 -
This is good. And they did not have to nerf the Videotape for that.
13 -
Good. And a buff as well so I'll take it.
1 -
Nice. I can feel less bad about playing Pig... or at least use reverse bear traps again... Still the chances of finding it earlier should be lower and scale for each additional one. For example, 10%/40%/70%/guaranteed. I dunno, maybe the base 20% is good enough.

pig nerf confirmed

good, AFK pig was bad for the game

This is a buff for Pig overall outside of scenarios involving body blocking the final box.

well, the nerf comment was tongue in cheek, but curious as to how its a buff. I don't play as pig so maybe I'm overlooking something and would appreciate if you could explain for me

Survivors now have a higher chance of having to search 4 boxes to hit the right one (assuming the Boxes still use the same shell game method).
Before, the chances to hit the right box with each attempt went 25% > 33.333% > 50% > 100%.
Now, it's 20% > 25% > 33.333% > 100%.
7 -
Survivors already have a 25% chance. 25% is 1/4. Now it's 1/5, or 20%.
3 -
Thanks for the explanation <3. I didn't even think of that.
But the trade off for this is that if a survivor is down to the remaining two boxes and one is in an area where the killer is active, they can use the other, whereas previously they would have no choice but to run into danger to complete the remaining box.

This is correct.

Good riddance.

Nevermind. I misread the notes.

I suggested this a few months ago, nice to see it implemented.

Kinda sad it took them this long to fix something this easy, but hey, at least another stupid timewaster has been eliminated, kudos all around.

I ran into AFK Pig for the first time today. Happy it'll be gone!
1 -
I agree that it was unfair. But, to be fair...it WAS lore accurate for her, lol. But yea, it is good to get rid of it.
3 -
Excellent. It'll be interesting to see how this affects normal Pig gameplay, but that 'strat' had to go. You should never be rewarded for being literally AFK.

Before this change the key was predetermined in a box as soon as the player was trapped.
There were no chances on each box.
Interested to see if they completely mess this up to where every survivor is getting their trap off on the fourth box.
1 -
I am aware. I am simply explaining how probability works.
0 -
I think he means the chance of a Survivor going after the right box not the chances of the box giving they key.
0 -
The key being predetermined still meant that the first box a survivor checked had a 25% chance to be the one with the key. Also the key stills appears to be predetermined with the exception of the 4th box search always giving you a key.
So nothing has really changed except now that with an extra box being basekit you have 1/5th chance for the first search instead of 1/4th chance.
2 -
How is that a buff?
One more box means easier/faster to find for the survivors.
Guaranteed 4 searches means faster to find for the survivors as well.
It feels like a nerf to me. (Granted I only play the Pig for dailies)

See below:

1 more box means less chance of finding the key earlier then the 4th one. Its 20% for finding it in first search. 25 in second. 33 in 3rd. Then 4th you find the key like before. More boxes equals less likely to find the key.

Did Almo's comment just vanish?
1 -
The comment is affected by Nightfall at the moment.
5 -
The strategy was fair, but I can understand why it was changed. Plus this is kind of a small buff for Pig so that's good.
0 -
If the key is still predetermined it has to be placed in two of the five boxes.
The Survivor effectively then has a 40% chance to find the key on the first box.
40% on the first, 50% on the second, 67% on the third which would be a nerf to Pig.
1 -
It does not have to be placed in two boxes from the start. All they need to do is after the 3rd search make the remaining boxes both live.
1 -
Based AFK Pig players forcing BHVR to buff Pig.
3 -
Right, more boxes just means less distance between them and an easier time for survivors to find them. And no matter what order the survivor search them they are now guaranteed to get free on the fourth try, so it’s not like they ever need to find all 5 boxes.
0 -
Idk about fair but it was a legit strategy as rng is what decides how the game goes.
0 -
why am I not surprised that they still felt the need to forcefully keep the RNG aspect of her power in the game?
It would have been a lot less work for them AND significantly improved this Killers performance had they simply gotten rid of RNG and made the key guaranteed on box 3.
But no, guess that would be "boring" - even though I can not think of anyone who actually enjoys a gamemechanic that ignores any sense of planning, skill or consistency in favor of pure RNG, but hey.
0 -
Well at least now she have no RNG When i play vs pig i find it on the last one when I play pig everyone get liberated in 1 box search
0 -
Nope they have 25% chance if u search on the 4th u get the key
0 -
No, no it wasn’t at all. This change has been a long time coming.

Looking into the math a bit, it does actually take survivors more tries on average to get the box off in the new system.
In the current version, there is a 25% chance each of getting the box off on try number 1, 2, 3 or 4. The expected number of tries on average is therefore 0.25 * (1+2+3+4) = 2.5
In the new version, there is a 20% chance of getting if off on try 1, 2 or 3 and a 40% chance you get it off on try 4. So the average number of tries is now 0.2*(1+2+3) + 0.4*4 = 2.8
So the average number of tries has gone up from 2.5 to 2.8 to get a trap off. Which is good for Pig! But on the flip side, as mentioned earlier in the thread, the distance between boxes will be shorter with five of them available and since the fourth attempt will always work the survivor will only need to check the four most “convenient” boxes at worst. Thus even though their average number of attempt has gone up a bit that’s being mitigated by the survivors having to spend less time getting to boxes to do the attempts.
It’s hard to tell if this is a net buff or nerf for Pig, other than obviously completely eliminating that dumb afk tactic.

That's not correct. At least, not on the first box. If you have five boxes and one is correct, then you have a 20% chance of getting the correct box. If you get it wrong once, THEN on the second attempt you have a 25% chance (since you only have four boxes left). On the third attempt, you have 33.333% chance (since you only have three boxes). On the fourth attempt, the probability is intentionally rigged to give you a 100% chance of success by making both remaining boxes the correct one.
0 -
A 'strategy' that is 'absolutely fine' and so 'rare' that it just had a pretty significant change to pig to mitigate it.
1 -
It depends on how its implemented.
Lets look at the scenario before the change.
An infinite number of survivors attempt to get the traps off their head, 25% of all survivors get the trap off first box, 25% of survivors will get it off on second search, 25% will get it off in the third search and 25% will get it off in 4 searches.
However, things look a little different after change.
IF there is still 1 predetermined key, but that key is overridden on the 4th search even if the box is incorrect
20% of survivors will get it off on the first search, 20% will get it off in the second, 20% will get it off in the third, and 40% will get it off in the fourth.
So the chance to get last box will have gone up significantly and the chance of every other result has gone down slightly, which is a pretty large buff.
IF there is now 2 predetermined keys
40% will get it off first search, 30% will get it off in the second, 20% will get it off by the third, and only 10% will get the 4th box. In this scenario there is a heavy bias towards finding the key early and later searches become less and less likely which would be a significant nerf
Now lets consider the addon to add an additional box to the trial
In the current implementation. 20% of the population will remove their RBT at each of the 5 boxes
In the case of 1 predetermined key, with an override there are 2 possible outcomes
The addon increases max searches to 5:
16.667% first box, 16.667% second box, 16.667% third box, 16.667% fourth box, 33.333% of survivors will get the 5th box
The addon does not increase max searches 5
16.667% first box, 16.667% second box, 16.667% third box, 50% will get the 4th box.
If the change makes it so there is 2 pre determined keys
33.333% first box 26.667% second box 20% third box, 13.333% fourth box. 6.667% fifth box.
Conclusion: 2 predetermiend keys is a big nerf, 4th box override is a decent buff.
