Why do people hate map offerings?
I'm genuinely curious about this. I've noticed people saying things like "I'd tunnel someone if I knew they'd bring a map offering" and "get rid of map offerings." Sometimes, I like bringing offerings I'm in the mood for a specific map. It's not to target anyone.
My point I guess is that it's all random anyway, why does it matter? And if you're upset that someone brought one that counteracted your own, isn't that hypocritical? There is no true benefit to knowing what map it will be, that I have noticed.

People hate map offerings because they allow one side to stack the game in their favour before it's even began
Burning offerings for a survivor sided or killer sided map puts that side in a bad position and sours the match. If I'm playing a weaker killer and the survivors decide it's time for Eyrie of crows, you shouldn't be surprised that I'm annoyed by it
And contrary wise when I'm playing solo Q I don't appreciate the Nurse and Blight mains burning macmillan and midwich constantly either.

So then isn't that a map-balance issue and not an offering issue then? Would you still be just as mad if that map spawned randomly?

Yes and no
Yes I'd be a bit frustrated that I got a bad map, BUT
That frustration is lessened an enormous amount by knowing it was nothing more than bad luck. It wasn't the survivors/killer going "i'm picking a map that favours me".
It is a balance issue in some ways yes. Offerings shouldn't be in the game either though because in a game that is pitting 2 sides against one another, why should either side be allowed to decide the playing field?
Alternatively, have map offerings be shown in the lobby to counteract this.

Interesting take. Thanks for sharing. I've always thought it would be cool to vote on the map before the match, like in COD and others. If a survivor offers one, it could gain an extra vote talley or something.

It's kinda bullshit with certain perks and killers
like a nurse can use the best nurse map every game and have that inherent advantage before the match began
also applies to old haddonfield with balanced landing

At least in games such as COD and the like, all players are on equal footing - be it on two teams of equal size or free-for-alls.
In DBD it's 4 v 1 and 4 survivor map offerings can counter any the killer could put on. Even cancels the only thing Killers have to deny map offerings.
Sacrifical wards should be easier to get.
Also another point to bring up - whenever a map is broken or has an abuseable bug, map offering usage spikes. RPD library of pain or Midwich untouchable spot springs to mind. Without map offerings, those things would still be there but nowhere near as abuseable since the map would only appear purely by chance.

Ahh, I see. Makes sense. I play both sides but not competitively, so I just offer the maps that I enjoy looking around on sometimes. I didn't think about swfs ganging up on people. I only play solo lol hence the username

That's totally fine and I don't take huge issue with people using map offerings for gimmicks. Like Mirror Myers wanting Lerys for example
Hell they are helpful with archive challenges as well, e.g I like to burn The Game as Nemesis to do gen/pallet destroy challenges. Stuff like that
They're just too abuseable outside of that though unfortunately

Yeah it normally goes that way unfairly stacking the cards against one side. Although occasionally you get lucky like a SWF burning a Gideon offering when you’re playing as The Nemesis.
