Concern with the upcoming Meta shake up...
I want to start off and say I mostly play this game as a solo survivor and when the devs mentioned perk changes and balance changes it kind of makes me worried... On the plus side other perks are getting buffed and making them a lot more useful which is great but still doesn't solve the BASE GAME MECHANICS. The only reason why I bring DS & BT into all my games is because it helps counter about 90% of the gameplay. I'm not here to call out killers for being campers or tunnelers because I tried killer and it truly is a miserable experience when you go up against a SWF or just a good coordinated team. I think the community just needs to understand 4 good players will always beat out 1 good player, it's just how asym games are designed. But as a solo survivor it just sucks to unhook a teammate and not have borrowed time for them especially if killer just proxies the hook. (Looking at you bubba) & vice versa, it just sucks when you know it's one of those games and you aren't equipped to go against a certain play style and just get hit right off hook...
And I don't want to expect anyone to run DS & BT but like how can you not? It's the two most consistent perks that you will get value in most of your matches. I don't think their heading in the right direction by trying to fix the game with perks as they've been doing it for 6 years... BHVR I think it's time to actually look at your base game mechanics and stop promoting all this new content to come because yes people will come back and check out new chapters ESPECIALLY if it's licensed but after that how can you retain those players instead of loosing them?
This is personally my last strike with the game as I've been an on and off player ever since they introduced Silent Hill but came back when they released RE only to find out it's the same game for all these years. And with the anniversary stream announcement with a 2nd RE chapter... well yes I have to check it out since I've always been a huge survival horror gamer and used DBD as a fun game where I can just sit back and have fun but lately that hasn't been the case and I think the community knows it as well.
It just begs the question for me, is BHVR really trying to pump new life into their game or just use big IP's and Licenses to keep the game going & it's a shame because they know Silent Hill fans have been dying for a new game but I guess we'll see with the new updates to come.

According to MandyTalk, there will be some base game changes along with the perk changes that addresses why the current meta perks are used so much. Therefore even if some perks like ds and bt get changed, in theory the new base game mechanics should help balance it out as well.

I've heard people saying Corrupt Intervention and Borrowed Time could become base kit. I think BT was kind of teased in a previous live stream from BHVR. But I actually think BBQ could become base kit... I only have doubt because it's a license. BT too, but Bill is available from the start of the game, without us having to purchase/unlock him.
But I'm wondering if we can expect other changes. Like, not only the perks themselves.

If Solo Queue is really as miserable as most people claim, are those two perks REALLY saving you as much as you think they are?

No, they're absolutely not saving you as much. But if it buys you maybe 40 more seconds, that's 40 more seconds that you'd not have otherwise.

At the end of it, the balancing team is still the folks who thought that the original COH was a perfectly balanced perk and that the buffed Boil Over perk that was nerfed almost immediately for how easy it was to exploit it was fine, speaks volumes of just how bad things are going to be. They are overhauling basic game related stuff and the most useful perks. I do not see how BHVR, renowned for their ability to muck up even the most simple of things, can do sweeping changes and not just completely break the game. I expect the first 3 months of the perk overhaul to be absolutely ridiculous balance wise. We are going to be seeing so much clowning around, I might just take a break from playing the game and instead watch everything unfold.

It's tough to imagine since I don't feel their removing hooks from the base game but we'll see where they go.
Great point. But I feel BBQ should have already been base kit since it'll always keep the killer active and not have to hunt and find the immersive crouch walking survivors. LOL

I am not sure I trust them to balance the perks. I am sure changes will be made, but I am also certain they will not be the correct ones.

There will need to be baseline changes that come with it but it does sound like that is their plan. But they have to do it correctly.
If they nerf the meta without properly accounting for why it's the meta, it's not going to go over well.

I didn't say say solo Q is miserable, I just expressed the frustration I have with having to equip two perks every game. Trust me when I say that I want to run different builds and perks but it's just useless to even try when you know how things are going to go. Did you read the scenarios I listed above? I have to literally equip BT for survivors who aren't great loopers and without it you're asking them to loop killer when they're like 2 meters away waiting for them to get unhooked. And DS is because I don't expect anyone to run BT as long as you're unhooking and going for saves thats fine, I'll take the hit off hook and DS them from there. It's not perks saving me it's trying to compensate for the ######### mechanic that allows you to get hit right after hook in which this game deems fair when we know any other game would have addressed this!!!
I hear you :/ it's super frustrating especially with every update being a buggy mess. And the way BHVR chooses to address things just makes things even more irritating. We just get a lot of TBD answers and "oh were working on things" LIKE WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING FOR 6 YEARS. To me this is make or break it for the future of the game because now we have Evil Dead (which is so much fun) and so many more games coming and don't see how people would choose to play this over those.
