Why am I getting pulled back into this thread?
The OP said before the change there was a maximum of 16 searches, because +box addons didn't exist right before the change, so the maximum number of boxes was 4 right before the change. However, before Pig's massive addon pass, the maximum number of boxes was 6, and since there was no RNG protection back then, one survivor absolutely could have gotten stuck with 6 searches for the same trap.
Have fun in the fog! Seriously, I'm done responding this time. If you're still having fun with Pig, then thumbs up to you! It really shouldn't affect your life at all if I think she's gutter trash now.

Ok, ignoring all of my other arguments, especially the one why you throw away your main if there are enough counter arguments. tbh this seems to me like you just want to be right, not to have a discussion

I'm not sure how to respond to the bulk of your question, but it appears to me that you have read into my observation as a criticism of the change. It is not.
If info exists in a tangibly trackable way, highly-motivated players will track it to advantage themselves. Counting and reporting on searches performed will become standard practice for groups in comms, and high-skill Pig players will also make an effort to track how many total searches they have remaining, and adjust accordingly. It seems like a welcome layer of on-the-fly strategizing to me.
