Understanding the MMR system

Okay, so I've played about 700 hours of this game since I started play (about a year ago now), and I'm wondering what in gods name is the MMR system and how it is intended to what. Like what is the soft cap/hard cap etc. Also, I'm not trying to toot my own horn but most games where I'm in solo q, its typically either I'm doing a gen or a gen ain't getting done. I'm not the best in chases (depends on the killer), but I am at least able to waste enough time more often than not for at least one gen to get done. Am I just queued with people who don't actually know what you need to be doing throughout game or am I just the best of the worst in a low MMR pool? Please help me understand. I'm red rank one (I know that doesn't count for much) but that's all I know how to judge how good I am since the MMR ain't public.

Very little has been officially said, and I don't think discussing datamined information is allowed, but here goes.

    lowest possible - 1100

    starting - 1300

    cap - 1900

survivor : +- 20 points per match depending on if escaped and time survived

killer: +- 20 points per match depending on how many kills

    MMR does not decay

this is old datamined information, things may have changed, but it's a good general idea

the mmr system rewards escaping as survivor and getting kills as killer, that is literally it

I'm pretty sure they lowered the soft cap to 1700 so that the super god tier Blights and Nurses can smurf even less skilled players.
