Am I missing something with Honey Locust Thorns?
The Deathslinger got an add-on change a while back. Honey Locust Thorns is one of his rare (green) add-ons that inflicts mangled. The catch? They have to break free from the spear.
So I came here to advocate for it to not require breaking free from the spear. Many other killers have mangled add-ons of the same rarity or lower that are easier to apply, without requiring letting a survivor go free from your power with a heavy cooldown.
But then as I was scrolling through the rest of his add-ons, I find Rusted Spike... an uncommon (yellow) add-on that applies mangled simply for spearing survivors. No need for them to break the chain.
So again I ask, am I missing something here? Or was this a massive oversight in Deathslinger's add-on changes? Sorry if anyone else has brought this up before, but it is my first time seeing and knowing of it.

You're not missing anything, it's a weird addon. I think it should do something else, like give Broken on a chain break or something, I don't know.
For Rusted Spike, you have to hit reel them in and hit them to apply Mangled by the way, if the Chain breaks or if you miss the swing, it doesn't apply.

Thank you for this information! I did not know this either. The Rusted Spike add-on description really needs to be updated then; because it simply says "The Reedemer's shots inflict Mangled." Nothing about reeling in, if they break free, etc. Funny, the rarer add-on rewards letting them go free (i.e. failing to use your power to its best potential), and the uncommon add-on rewards successful reels...

Yeah that is definitely weird that the Yellow add-on is objectively better than the Green add-on since any situation the Green add-on would trigger the Yellow one already would have triggered too but the Yellow also triggers in other cases as well.

See @ReverseVelocity 's comment on this above!

The wording in the description of the yellow is wrong then, it just says it applies Mangled on a hit from the Redeemer which would be the spear hitting.

Yeah it’s kinda stupid. The green addon should just be reworked imo

It definitely seems a little odd and that they should flip it, but you could argue that it's easier to hit the survivor and let them break the chain, for example, at a pallet, you can't hit them, but you can still injure and cause mangled by breaking the chain. It's probably because getting the actual hit is harder than just shooting and intentionally breaking the chain. You also have to remember that there's the cigar, which combos very well with the green add on as well. It's a little confusing, but I can understand their reasoning. They should definitely change the rusty spike description though so it's less confusing for the conditions for it to activate.

Exactly. Maybe this is how Honey Locust Thorns should function, considering other killer add-ons that apply mangled. And the Rusted Spike can remain only if you get a successful hit after reeling, as it functions now per @ReverseVelocity . But update the description either way.

You need to run both at the same time to open your third eye and unlock your full potential.

That add-on is helpful if you're running Save the Best for Last with him because you'll be breaking the chain frequently when spearing the obsession.
