Ah crud, I've already maxed out the rift.

    Much appreciated regardless, though.

Oh no. Stream codes are probably expiring quickly -.-

I finished too but I'm glad they still do them. I'd rather get them and not need them than not get them and need them.

Oh true, I'll update my post as a heads up.

    I know!

I did my best to make her less adorable but it's impossible 😠

She's soooo cute. Keep her carrier out even when you're not taking her places and put treats in her carrier so she gets more comfortable with it. If she only sees it when she goes to vet she's going to bolt moment she sees it. If it's just normally out and gives her tasty treats she'll be like "it's my treat box that sometimes brings me to bad place" 😂

That's kind of what I do but I think I need to up my efforts. It is currently under the table where her heated bed is (so like...it's out but it's not really "out" because there's no reason she'd go there. She doesn't bolt when she immediately sees it though) so I think I'm going to move it out to maybe just the middle of the damn living room so she really gets used to it.

I had been giving her her "Jackpot Treats" as Jackson Galaxy calls them (these GoGurt lookin tubes of meat) in the carrier but I haven't done that in months. I didn't really have any rhyme or reason for giving her those treats so I just kind of stopped giving them to her so I might need to get a pattern of some kind to get her more treats AND put them in the carrier to get her comfortable with going in without me having to force her.

It was actually a different JG video I saw that makes me really want to make sure she sees the crate as not only a good place but a place to actively go to if she's scared or whatever. Today, if we were leaving because everything was on fire and not to bring her to the vet, she'd have been toast. And while I am currently irked at kitty, I do not want a toasted kitty :(

My sister lived in the same town as me when I got my old cat as a kitten so I would bring him with me there when I'd go over her place, which was pretty often. Her cats didn't like him but her ferrets loved him (they were like same size when he was a kitten) so he would have a good time going over there. I think being able to take him somewhere with me when I left the house made him think "if I go in here she won't leave me behind" 😂

He loved his crate, saw it as like his safe space. I used one that was bigger than most use for cats so he had room to stretch out. It helped when one time at my old apartment there were manholes exploding nearby due to an underground gas main fire - they were causing the building to shake and we lost power so we decided we weren't going to stick around to see if it got worse, my cat went straight in his carrier when I called him over and we were able to just take off.

That's something I also wonder about (crate size). Like...the crate she has is supposed to be her size. She can't stand in it or anything without brushing the top but it's not completely cramped where she can't move.

Some say that's exactly what you want (kind of like a box, they feel safe and secure when it's "cozy"). Holly has never been into boxes or anything like that, she's definitely more of a Jungle Cat than a Cave Cat (back to my boy JG, a Jungle Cat likes to sit up high and survey the land and see predators so they can run/react accordingly where a Cave Cat likes to burrow and be in tight spaces to stay hidden from predators).

So part of me wonders if getting a bigger crate would help. This one is big enough that it does have a little bed in it and whatnot. I figure I need to do my treats thing for a while and see how it goes. The next vet appointment is now early July so I have a month to get her good with this crate. As you stated, in a moment of emergency, I really don't want to have to worry if I can get Holly into her crate.

I don't need her to be see it as her home (I think she might be too old at this point for that particular habit, even if she did like small cramp spaces) but I really want to feel safe that if we need to go right this instant, she won't fight me. It is nice to now though that at least anecdotally, I know someone who actually did have this success (JG talked about it in his video but it just seemed...kind of unrealistic to me but if you got your kitty cat to do it, no reason to think I can't get Holly to).

    I'm doing my part!

(Although generally I only do it in code threads. They rarely ever stay on the first page for very long and I noticed that The Internet really likes cats so I started posting pictures of Holly in them and now I sometimes get tagged in the threads creation as people now expect Holly to show up :D)

Your crate looks like the one that's a size down from what my cat had - like I said, it's a hilariously big difference between xsmall and small when it comes to the plastic crates. 😂

Check out your pet shops sales on crates but maybe try crate that is size up. While it will be bigger it may encourage her to go in more often if she can easily walk in/out of it without crouching. Also a bit easier to get the kitty in to the big crate. My brother ended up taking my crate for his cat that is normal cat size because it was easier to get him in and his cat HATES the crate - bolts when he sees it and goes to hide in pool table or inside a couch depending on the day. 😂

Your reasons for bowing out are acceptable. Please give the cat the necessary pets until they are satisfied
