I am returning to DbD! - and a question regarding MMR
No, the title is not deceiving you, I am indeed planning on reinstalling DbD and joining back into the fog with the start of the anniversary.
I've made this decision based on a few factors:
- A friend of mine who actively plays the game and said he missed playing with me
- The overall good changes and patches that were made & announced recently
- I want to test out the Dredge, it looks like a really cool character
- I want to test out the Deathslinger and see just how bad those changes ended up being and how he feels to play now (I am thinking about making a lengthy threat here regarding his nerf and wanted to get some first hand experience before that)
That said, I am not planning on fully returning yet - I will mostly limit my stay to SWF with said friend(s) and trying to unlock the anniversary masks. I really (and I mean REALLY) dont want to have to touch Killer at all tbh. Even after 10 months the mere thought of starting to play as Killer makes me want to quit the game again - and I know the core issues that frustrated me so much back then are still not fixed today. But I'll sit through the pain a few times for the sake of Dredge and the deceased Daddy Slinger.
My experience with the anniversary will be the deciding factor on whether this game stays installed or gets uninstalled again afterwards.
All of this is nice and all, but I do have a, to me, very important question:
It has been ~10 months since MMR (or as I like to call it, the worst decision ever made) has been added to the game. Did they manage to change the system to passively decrease over time when one is not playing DbD yet, or will I be thrown right back into the sweatfest that made me quit this game back in August 2021?
Your answer to this might drastically affect my first matches.
Thank you for reading and I guess I'll see you in the fog folks!

They haven't said mmr decay is in the game yet
However they did change MMR criteria somewhat and widened the 'brackets' so to speak so there's more variety in the players you can go against. At somebody who despised the original MMR system I can tell you it has gotten better for both sides
You'll see come across the typical sweats but I don't think it'll be every game unless you're super super high up. I think that's how it works now at least

In all fairness we never even knew you left Dbd.

Yeah those changes were a major reason why I even considered coming back.
That said, I am very disappointed that MMR decay (which should have been a day 1 feature) is still not a thing after 10 months!
But if BHVR can't manage to lower my MMR, I guess I'll have to do so myself. Now it's just gonna be a tough choice on whether I'm gonna do the Slinger matches to see how he feels despite MMR being too high (cause I know I'll get stomped with how much they massacred him), or just AFK Wraith until its at a reasonable level.
Anyway, thanks for the quick answer! ^^

I am fairly sure I've been quite vocal about that.
Regardless, that's not the point of this post, it's just a quick(ish) announcement at the beginning.

I know I just wanted an upvote 😔

It could be in the game we don't 100% have a way to know but they haven't confirmed it
And maybe they won't confirm it so people don't stop playing just to lower it. Hard to say
Overall MMR's not as bad though! There's still glaring balance issues with the game but I've been able to have more fun with it lately
