Player is purposely targeting/ harassing me (advice)

I switched off Crossplay thinking it would help... I ended up running into a duo (one Killer and one Survivor) that are now pretty much stalking me. The Survivor didn't like that I was hiding and trying to do the last gen (how dumb is that?) and from my understanding, the Killer initiated contact with this person and it went back and forth from that point. The Survivor could see my aura and kept telling the Killer where I was. Killer finally hooked me and the Survivor stood there teabagging me. They messaged me with threatening messages about how they plan to target me in all future games. I ran into the same Killer in other matches and although he did message other players to body block and give away my location, they all refused and he was just really nasty at that point. I tried blocking him and reporting but he was still showing up in my matches. I guess "Block" is just as effective as reporting someone... pointless. Is there a way to prevent these two people from joining any of my sessions? I debated changing my PSN but at the end of the day, that still seems unfair since I've had the name since 2009.

Consistently getting the same player over and over is very uncommon, my suggestion would be to take a short break and come back to the game at a later time. If you are on a Console platform, my recommendation is to report them for harassment is they continue to do so. If all else fails, VPNing to get in a different region of matchmaking might also help, since it removes all physical ways to get paired against the player.

Being targeted by other players is reportable. You should reach out the support and report the players that are doing this.

Thank you. Yeah so I'm on PS4 and I turned off crossplay just so that I could interact with more PS users. Unfortunately, turning off crossplay also vastly increases running into the same players match after match (depending on how quickly you press the confirm session). I pulled back for a bit and I haven't seen either one since. I was more annoyed that the "Block" function did absolutely nothing in terms of in-game matchmaking.

The block function only blocks them from being able to send you a friend request in game and I think for those on PC they don't see their comments in chat.

I figured. I reported them to PSN and flagged each of the messages. I originally laughed it off and wasn't taking it seriously but once I stopped giving them attention, that's when the more serious threats started.

I had a similar situation like this happen to me recently as well. I don't think there is a way to prevent anyone from appearing in your lobby again in the future. I know video evidence helps with this but unfortunately things like this often happen when we don't expect it and at best we're only able to get screenshots if you're not recording the match. If they threatened to target you in future matches and also did it after the fact then this is targeted harassment. If you by chance took screenshots of what they said I would recommend reporting this to BHVR on their support site which can be found here: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us

If he sent you any messages over playstation, the best thing to do is to report the message itself, from my experience. I got plenty of notifications talking about how “the appropriate action has been taken” after I reported them, so I can only assume they were banned.

Other than that, I’d keep crossplay on just to have a larger pool of players to go with/against, just to lower your chances of finding that same guy again.

That's good you reported them to PSN too. You definitely should report them to DBD support as well since they were targeting you in DBD. Hopefully one, or better yet both, take action against those players.

I'm sorry about that and yeah, it's funny how weird issues like this always seem to occur when I'm not streaming. Not long ago, I caught a console cheater during a stream and I was able to clip it for my report. In the current case, I literally did nothing to deserve any of the threats (I mean threats are never okay) but it isn't often that you see a single Survivor working directly with the Killer in chat to target other players.

Apparently (anecdotally) there is a hack that lets you target a certain player's lobby.

Yeah PSN is very quick to deal with reports. I'll never forget a few months back, all I did was call someone a clown and the user reported that message. PSN ended up sending me a warning about it. I'm very cautious about engaging anyone in messaging unless I know them because anything can be reported and misconstrued.

With all of the cheat devices available today, I'm sure more players than we even realize are doing that and then some. I forgot what it's called but I watched a video two months ago of a device that you can connect to the PS4 controller and the video showed everything that these people can do with it.
