Is the downside of Technician too much?

Technician could be a good perk for new players who aren't very good at skillchecks, however the downside of the increased penalty for failing a skillcheck is quite harsh when you crunch the numbers, even more so with the new gen time changes. An additional 3% penalty plus the gen not progressing for a few seconds after the explosion means a failed skill check adds a significant amount of time to a completing a gen.

In fact I tested it, and failing 1 skill check with technician currently adds a whopping ~13 seconds to the time needed to complete a gen. 13 seconds in exchange for the killer not being notified and working on the gen quieter is quite dramatic imo, espcially as new players will be missing a lot more than 1 skillcheck in most cases. This penalty will be even more when gen times are increased as 3% will equal 2.7 seconds instead of 2.4. Should the penalty be decreased to fit with new gen times? Or is it fine as it is as the killer not being notified is quite strong?

Personally I think the penalty should be toned down per missed skillcheck, otherwise the perk seems almost counter productive and potentially a bigger detriment to new players and the team rather than helpful.

Open for discussion, just wondered what the community thought about this as technician is a perk I don't see being used regularly.

If anything it should reduce the amount lost by failing a skillcheck. Not sure why you would want to punish new players, sure, it is not good to encourage bad gameplay, but at the same time it's not such a big deal given how easy it gets hitting skill checks after a while.

Yeah its quite the schizophrenic perk. If it had no downside probably a lot of stealth builds would run it, but right now its totally missing its mark.

Maybe just pause the gen for a couple of seconds, but don't give it extra regression. This will make it unattractive to the good survivors who pass most skill check, while still helping new players out who might prefer a few extra seconds to getting visited by the killer.

Yeah it should remove the penalty be silent and on top of that anyone repairing the gen with you ALSO gets it’s benefits. Even with that it’d only be used by mentors helping newer players or newer players themselves.

The fact Feng isn’t free on PC (she is on console) makes the fact this is a training wheels perk very strange but there’s others like it too such as Visionary.

Of course it doesn't need extra regression. Also the perk is so bad that it needs to reduce in 100% the repairing noises when you are at a generator.

After a few beers this is the best perk in the game.

I don't know why this ever had a penalty to begin with. All it did was punish people trying to Adept Feng.

The penalty for the perk working should be a missed skillcheck should put the entire perk on a short cooldown. Skillchecks are not frequent enough for that to be too harsh on newer players but at the same time the quieter repairs disabling due to that penalty would be a good enough offset for experienced players somehow missing skillchecks.

If the perk went on a cooldown it would also give room to buff the missed skillcheck part of the perk to be more like Corrective Action by just removing the missed skillcheck entirely without affecting the generator.
