Bhvr, can we stop this patch for the moment?
I’m very worried about the upcoming changes. You could get a good impression in the last few days and therefore here is my frank opinion:
1. the planned prestige system is not or badly thought out
- more grind if new players only want to level/play single characters
- prestiging after p9 pointless
- smaller bloodwebs with inferior items and addons
- prestiging costs 50k bloodpoints
- for longtime players no reason to level anymore except when new characters are released
2. catch-up system
- to ptb bhvr didn't manage to safely add the progress of all players into the new system and in live game this would be a disaster
- the reward for players who invested millions of bloodpoints over years and lost many items, addons and perks is absolutely ridiculous and has nothing to do with appreciation or good customer care!!!
- probably the release and the associated player progress could not be reversed
- the game progress is only determined by perktiers, everything beyond that is virtually ignored
3. still no reward for devotion levels
4. there is no optimization for map rotation… why devs don’t make sure, that no player gets the same map in a row (without a mapoffering)?? That should be so easy to implement. For example after a Mac Millan map you can’t get another typ of this map.
5. killrates to low -> reason: mmr?
- i could imagine that the supposedly low killrates are due to the fact that sometimes new killer players are paired with too strong survivors, i often experience this in the game. Whereas I have the impression that games against equally good players are balanced.
- swf, perks, items and addons should be included in matchmaking! It's no wonder that, provided the mmr works, a pig without perks has hardly a chance against a swf with dh, bt, ds and so including toolboxes and medkits! In contrast, a good nurse with infectious, groupi, bbq and scourgehook has an easy game...
6. gamebalance changes (necessary?)
- gens need 90 seconds so that killers are not forced to take slowdown perks, but there are still many strong ones that can extend the genrepairtime to almost 170 seconds (thana + overcharge + pop). So settings on legion, plague or strong killers like blight or nurse would be unbearable!
- no counter against camping!!!
- hookgrabbing is still not adressed
- no buffs for soloq
- ds nerf is unnecessary
7. meta perk shake-up is questionable
- many of these perks are still strong, if not stronger: dh, pop, ruin, bt, unbreakable
- nerfs partly hit rather new players and solo players, like selfcare or ds
- i fear endless mending: bt-basekit, bt, otr, dh....
- with the dh-change risky moves are less entertaining
- one thing is clear: you will quickly see a new meta
Player on both sides will always use the best stuff to have a better chance. So metas will stay cause you never know what the opponent will bring: a meme build, a strong or a weak killer, iri addons and so on. Especially on survivor side. For a killer it’s much easier cause you choose a setting that’s fits your killer and prevents several survivor perks and items, for example lightborn, sloppy, franklins, genregressionperks, 1-hit-perks or you play for example plague to make iw, sc, wwmi, coh or medkits useless or pyramidheads cages against ds, sabo, bt… the killer looks at his chosen character while survivor have to be prepared for a unknown opponent.
As you can see now there are many, if not too many points that unfortunately speak too clearly against this update from my point of view and I honestly hope that the devs take these things into account, because there probably won't be a way back and I really fear that all this will not do Dead by daylight any good 😢
Is it a bad thing to take time to work on a patch like this?

I think you’re right on a lot of this stuff, but I don’t expect to see BHVR make many of any changes. There might be a few very minor tweaks after the PTB, but for them to delay or scrap all the things you mentioned that are broken would mean that the BHVR team would have to admit that this patch was a major f-up and they’re never going to do that

But doesn't it make more sense to accept criticism and to question oneself and one's work and then to react accordingly when necessary? There are good approaches, but it's really no help to anyone if you implement something at a loss and go live with it, where so many things hang on it! Apart from the fact that previous game progress of the players is completely thrown over the heap, I really see the danger that the game fun and thus the game itself will suffer very much. And that can times then not bend on the fast again.

I completely agree with you, but it doesn’t mean that the team at BHVR feel the same way. History shows that they rarely, if ever, revert unpopular changes immediately. What usually happens is they will wait at least 6 months and then maybe make some smaller changes to make it appear less like they’re admitting they made a mistake. So far this strategy has worked for them, as the player count is remaining stable. From their perspective, there’s no reason to take a different approach unless they are bleeding players and revenue
