I mean, they didn't want the reward to be a cosmetic, so all BHVR could do is..give a cosmetic effect on the portraits of the characters

yeah, that's the worst they could've come up with.
At this point, I'd prefer no reward at all, because I would disable that joke of a reward in a few minutes after the patch has rolled out.

I don't think that they didn't want it to be a cosmetic, but rather they just didn't want to waste the resources to make a new cosmetic for each character that they wouldn't be able to make money off of.
It's very disappointing.

At this point, I would happily forego the cosmetic effect, that only I can see (and deactivate) and also forego the catch-up mechanic in exchange for 1,5M BPs per Prestige per Char. This would at least give players the freedom to level and/or prestige as they see fit (heck even switch roles and level the "other side" with the gained BPs).
And why is there a 50k fee to prestige, when it's no longer optional?
This whole thing feels lacklustre and strange. Not just the cosmetic effect that isn't a "cosmetic", but everything.

Yea the 50k is what is so strange.....Hey we reduced the grind but you'll have to grind to pay for the prestige.....

Yeah, if it was at least the same sparkle effect as they had in game during effect, I'd be happy. I wish I could associate it with golden shower, that wouldn't be so bad as yellow acne. But all I see are faces covered in pimples that are bursting. I wish I could unsee it in my mind.

Sure, I can give it a try. It would obviously have to be something that they don't have to spend much time on. So, how about ability to turn on gold sparkle effect that they had during the event, since it's already implemented.

There was even a lower effort reward that would have probably been better.
Reaching P1 means you waste 1.5 million bloodpoints.
Giving out 500k bloodpoints per prestige level would have been better at this point if you ask me, and they wouldn't have wasted the effort to implement the setting to turn off the stupid filter.

To me, even 1 BP is better than the pimple filter that will be turned off immediately. Why would anyone want to stare at pimples growing and then popping? It's not even random. It's just the same repeating animated texture loop.

I can definitely say that once I saw the reward, it made me stop prestiging and stockpiling cakes instead. I was going to try and prestige my favorite killers for the reward, but decided to save their add ons instead because I am not super found of the cosmetic.
I personally think that even just a color change of it could help improve it. The gold/yellow color isn't super appealing. Someone said it looked like plague infection and now I can't unsee that.
I think it's a bummer that the reward is just the portraits. I was hoping it would be small like the portraits plus a iri shard/bp reward. I would have been happy with 100 iri shards for each prestige level I had. I could maybe get a free cosmetic for artist or something. I would have also been fine with a small bp reward for each prestige. It would allow me to finish prestiging all my killers for the perks.
I wasn't expecting a big reward, in fact, I predicted in my head for just profile cosmetic changes for characters. I just wished they gave us another pat on the back with bp/iri shards. I would have also taken a reward that increased the BP cap. Hopefully they change the portraits before release to make them a little more appealing, but at least I'll have an option to turn it off.

Why are you so surprised? After 6 years and all the things that they did(n't) it should be pretty much clear how they work and reward their players...

You're absolutely right. Still most people, including me, hope for the best.
That's the whole situation in a nutshell. It's like you're being promised something special for Christmas, but end up getting a pair of socks (and maybe I'm even too ungrateful for socks, because at least they're useful keeping my feet warm).

An exp. booster would've been 10x better than the portrait.
That way, you could get rewarded for playing a Killer/Survivor you already have everything on

I'm not surprised that it wasn't a full cosmetic or costume.
Just imagine all the angst and crazy and backlash and tantrums surrounding getting the reward prior to the changes or missing out on it. Or players feeling robbed if they made it available at a later time.
They even said it wasn't anything that grand and people still went nuts trying to prestige before the changes.

To me they could have just made a legacy re-skin with silver instead of the gold effect.
I'm close to hitting devotion 30 and it was an unpleasant feeling when I found out that portraits were getting some kind of effect. 😑

I mean,i have an unhealthy amount of hours in this game myself but legacy 2.0 just for getting P3 on a character shouldn't be a thing.
I'd rather want to get special skins by completing some kind of challenges for my character (e.g hit 100 survivors with x power or get x amount of flashlight saves)

How about a golden legacy hat then? Or some shiny legacy socks? Doesn't have to be a full costume, but I can't imagine a huge amount of work would need to be put in.
Let's not forget there is somebody at BHVR who has to spend hours designing and creating brown rift charms that nobody will ever look at, never mind adorn their hooks with them. Surely giving Nea a legacy pair of sunglasses wouldn't be too unreasonable. Or a pair of fancy dancing shoes for Blight.
