I haven’t named them due to the fact that I have 5 of them and their mother and knew that if I named them I would get too attached. I’m now sad because I found these two a new owner who is coming by on Monday to pick them up and all I want to do is cry while holding them.

Same. But I brought something 0w0

Are you moving or why do you have to get rid of your kitty cats? :(
Although if you have five of them, I would have assumed someone gave birth but those don't look like kittens.

I am only allowed up to two cats. My roommate rescued the mother from a horrible person and gave me the option of adopting her or he would take her to a shelter. I felt bad because we fostered her for a few months prior, to give her original owner some time to get his issues in order and I got attached. I didn’t know how bad he was, otherwise I’d never let him have her back.
He ended up leaving her locked in his home for almost two weeks with no food and water while he went out of town to chase drugs and a woman he met online. When my roommate heard what he was doing he went and broke a window to get her out.
I ended up deciding to keep her. I let her go outside when she wanted because I felt sorry and I was hoping she’d have babies. Someone on here warned me it would be better to spay her because shelters are already filled with kittens and I agreed to, but it was too late, the little cow was already preggo.
She gave birth to them three months ago. And from my research they’re at the best size to adopt out. In order to keep the ones in the picture, I’d have to rehome the mother, which would just make me feel super guilty because I learned from my roommate that she spent most of her life hiding under a bed or behind furniture. Heck, the other day her previous owner came knocking on the door and when she heard his voice she immediately started growling and ran to my bed and hid under my blanket. I can’t let her end up in a shelter and people don’t generally want to adopt an adult cat.
Here is a pic of the family:
Mom is on the far right.

Omg, i love you for this!

Yeah, kittens go way faster than adult cats. Holly (my cat, though I imagine everyone on this board knows that by now :D) was an adult when I adopted her. She had five kittens and four of the five kittens were snatched up immediately while she and for some reason one of the other kittens went unadopted for a few months just because most people want kittens, not adult cats (the last kitten did go a week after I snagged up Holly).
That's good of you to have stepped in like you did. You walked in knowing it would hurt and you did it anyway. Those cats are all going to have much better lives than they would have had you not done that.

I love you too.

I understand the wanting for kittens over older cats. People are naturally more compassionate towards babies of any species and the idea of getting a baby cat and raising it and bonding with it for their whole life. It sucks for older cats but it is what it is. I just wish people would stop buying from breeders, let them all go out of business and adopt spayed and neutered cats from shelters.
I love animals more than I do most people, I'd always try to help one if I can. This mamma cat didn't deserve the crap life she had and I just couldn't turn my back on her. Her personality did a complete flip and she's become a sweet heart. She's not a lap cat, but she does sit at my feet or on the towel I keep for her on my desk. She always comes to welcome me when I come home from work and she's finally started purring on a consistent level. She never purred when we first got her all the way up until close to giving birth. She can be grumpy, but shes my cute little grumpy cow.
As for the babies, the twins were just given to their new owner less than 10 minutes ago. I'm somewhat of a mess, but not as bad as I thought. I had a little cry (I'm considered an old man, so I can't cry too much, though I did cry) and I want to go lay down but I'm happy to know that I didn't have to put them in a shelter and the the new owner seems to be a really kind and loving cat mom.
It was sweet though, because the momma cat and the siblings came to comfort me while I broke down a little. She rubbed against my legs and let me hold her while the other babies came for pets and sat on my shoulders.
Now I have to wash everything to get their scent out and hope the mother cat easily moves on.

If it makes you feel better about the momma moving on part, I actually asked the place I was adopting from about that (since they still had one of her kittens and I felt it was cruel to "rip the family apart" even though 4/5ths of the kittens were gone). They told me that in the wild, at approx 3-4 months, a momma cat would ditch her kittens at that point anyway.
So if your primary concern here is the mom getting depressed or something, that's not something you really need to worry about. I don't know if that's helpful or not but that's what I was told by the rescue and made me feel much better about taking Holly and ditching Roo (sorry Roo, hope the family that snagged you up later is good to you but I didn't want a kitten).
1 -
No, my primary concern is for my heart. I was a little worried about the mother and knew she'd adjust, I'm just deflecting so I don't seem too fragile. You are right though, the mother was already growling and hissing at them the second she noticed them even looking at her nipples so this is the best time to find them new homes.
Don't be sorry about Roo (I love that name though), you can't help what your heart wanted. Would you mind posting a picture or twenty of Holly? I need so see cuteness.
I'm just happy I didn't name any of the kittens except the one that I'm keeping. I was show pictures and videos of them to a coworker and she exclaimed how rambunctious one is and I've decided to name him Rambo for short. It works out since it fits him perfectly:
These were over a month ago, Ill post a recent one later.
@AnneBonny I'm sorry for hijacking your thread.

Normally Holly won't work for free but she is a very empathetic kitty who understands that sometimes probono work to help a fellow cat lover takes priority over getting paid BP (plus I have a F ton of pics since we don't get a lot of codes lately; I've also kind of lost track of what have and haven't been posted so a repeat might be in here)

Thank you for adopting black cats! People are still stupid and superstitious about them and I read that they end up staying in shelters the longest.
We had a fluffy cow of a black cat when I was in my teens. He managed to sneak into the neighbors house and steal a whole chicken off the dinner table. They didn’t like us very much after.

I'm going to be very annoyed if they dont like sitting in the high up places.

Hello Apollo and Sputnik!
great names and I hope they bring you much joy (and we will see plenty of pictures!)

My 5 year old did ask for black cats because "they are so goth" and that's her thing right now. 😄They kinda go with my aesthetic as well, and we are happy to have them. I am always impressed by stories of cats stealing food as big as they are. Sorry your neighbors didn't find it as funny as the rest of us do. 😂
THANK YOU! Our littlest calls them Powwo and Sbucket for now. Once they slow down hopefully I'll be able to get a few more good shots. So far it's a lot of little black blurs. 😝
