possible buffs to saboteur

welcome fog traveler!

we all know that saboteur was once the powerhouse of survivors, and now it's been off the meta since hook regen got added, but hear me out, what if this perk got some buffs to make it atleast decent?

here are some possible buffs to saboteur

  • the speed is now 50% on all levels (like self care)
  • remove the skillcheck penalty (like self care)
  • toolbox effectivness lowered to 10%/15%/20% (like self care)
  • add a new feature only available to saboteur, the survivor suprise, how does it work you might ask? when a hook is saboed, it doesn't break instantly, instead you booby trap it and when a killer goes near it (with or without a survivor) the hook will break
  • and going with the survivor suprise, when the hook breaks, the killer goes into a frenzy that increases his movement speed by a certain amout for 10 seconds (prob. 5% to 10%)

Or, Or, hear me out; keep it the same, and just add a totem break buff

Uh, the toolbox efficiency is literally the only thing propping that perk up rn. The suggested changes are interesting but ultimately I feel like it's good in its current state.

If I want to sabotage a hook to make an area safe for me and my teammates to work on a generator, then why would I sabotage the hook to 100%, trigger a visual notification, and bring the killer over, making the area unsafe? Even if the killer didn't come over, we would only have so much time before the hook comes back.

What if Saboteur removed visual notifications from successful sabotages, and/or added 10/20/30 seconds to the hook regeneration?

This would give Hangman's Trick more weight, too, as the killer's notification that someone started sabotaging would override Saboteur.

Another, more complicated, rework of Saboteur:

    • Have it require 100% completion uninterrupted
    • The hook does not break after completion. Instead, it remains sabotaged until the killer hooks a survivor on it.
    • The survivor counts as having been hooked, before the hook drops, stuns the killer, and frees the survivor.
    • The killer, as part of the stun animation, has to reset the hook which removes the sabotaged effect.
    • Survivors who are "dead on hook" when hooked will still be sacrificed, and there will not be a stun.

Yes, it sounds overpowered like Decisive Strike (the survivor gets away), but, unlike Decisive Strike, it's not free; they have been hooked. Also, the killer doesn't have to wait for the hooked survivor to be rescued. They can get right back to searching for and chasing the survivor, speeding up the overall find-chase-down-hook loop.

While we're on the topic of buffing Saboteur, and sabotage in general, can a survivor who successfully saves a teammate through sabotage be rewarded in the emblem system?

I'm not sure if and how the emblem sytem does reward sabotage, but I sabotaged several hooks allowing another survivor to wiggle free four times. Four times I saved their life, but I didn't feel properly rewarded in the emblem system after the match.

I like making Sabo to match Self Care and I like the little trap aspect BUT I think a survivor can only booby trap one hook a match (otherwise everyone could use it and booby trap literally every hook except basement). After that all other sabotaging of hooks are normal. So it would be:

    Sabotage:
You may now sabotage hooks at 50% normal speed without the use of the toolbox. Increases the efficiency of using a toolbox to sabotage a hook by 10%/15%/20%.
Once per trial when you would fully sabotage a hook, the hook isn’t disabled but will break the next time the killer tries to hook a survivor on it.

I think this would be a fun rework, however, it would become meta for sure, which would make it so that it would happen on every hook.

I think it would need to operate so that the hook breaks near the end of the phase instead of at time of hook. Maybe after... 20 secs of hanging/struggling?

If a survivor is saved from the hook the hook resets and won't break the next time someone is hooked on it.

Additionally, sabotage time should be increased by 50 to 100%

That booby trap would be complete bullshit for the killer however. Honestly sabo in general just needs to be buffed, not the perk.

That would just make saboteur feel more worthless with decreasing the efficiency.

The only reason I use Saboteur is to pair it with a toolbox since of the efficiency. Debuffing it that remendously would just make me never want to use that perk again. Everybody knows you don't use Sabo by itself because it's too slow to begin with.
