Reassurance Should Be A General Survivor Perk - Discuss.
I like the idea as a potential camping discouragement, but...I'm really not a fan of this being tied to a paid DLC.
I'd rather see it be introduced as a general perk, giving people access to it without spending money, and add a new perk for the DLC.
Thoughts?

I like that perks offer different play-styles and strategy's so I like that it is a perk. Basekit stuff never seems to workout In dbd

You're right. This perk is very good but new players will still be camped because its a DLC perk. If it was attached to an original DLC it will be okay because we can use shards for original character. But its a licence DLC and I know a lot of players who will wait for it to come in the shrine of secrets.

Not basekit, a general perk. Something like Spine Chill that everyone has access to in the bloodweb.
9 -
Yeah it feels kinda pay to win. Or pay to not lose, whichever.
I don't have an issue with the mechanics of the perk itself I just don't like it being part of a cash-only dlc.

So should windows and coh, but bhvr will never do that.
4 -
Oh yeah totally! Sorry I read that sooo wrong lol
0 -
The difference is that Windows and CoH are both on survivors you can buy with shards.
Haha, no worries mate.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that.

This is expected behaviour from BHVR. Sometimes they release a licensed chapter with a ridiculously broken perk to help it sell. For example, when Ash vs Evil Dead launched Mettle of Man was grossly overpowered only to be nerfed a few months later.
6 -
Honestly I see another ash situation happening where the perk will be nerfed after everyone buys it
2 -
This. Same with Circle of Healing with Mikaela

This game is not pay to win.

Absolutely should be a general perk, but doubtful. The more I've thought about how this perk is behind a paywall considering the current state of the game makes me chuckle.

It's...not OP though. Not at all.
It's a nice tool if you get camped. That's about all it does.
I look forward to all the folks running it into me, as I...almost never camp :)
Win? No.
This is more just a massively useful tool behind a paywall (or pure shrine RNG).
3 -
I didn't say it was op I just said I can see a situation like that happening because i can see this perk becoming a part of a lot and I mean a lotttt of peoples builds
And I can see people just buying Rebecca just so they can get the perk Ala the ash comparison

Good.
If it does, you'll see less camping.
Then less people will run the perk.
Then people will camp again. And on and on the meta cycle goes.

We all paid $$ for bbq and ds, so maybe they're confident we will buy Reassurance.
If it releases as is, hell yes I'm using it.

I don't the second happening because of one thing 4 man swfs who want to "troll" running it I can see them finding a hook where they can safely abuse the perk and have someone on hook for a hour hopefully it won't be prevalent enough to get the perk nerfed as I want to use it for the teammates who want to hook suicide

Agreed. It's rightfully going to be a meta perk, and shouldn't be behind a paywall.

I have nothing to contribute to this post other than I cannot see the word "Discuss!" without thinking of, "Talk amongst yourselves! I'll give you a topic (insert random topic like, "A chipmunk is neither a chip nor a monk"). Discuss!"

XD
It's actually an old meme from ye olde World of Warcraft forums, back in the day.

Unironically might be the first pay to win perk
1 -
This was like the only instance of this ever. What about perks that get buffed after they release? BHVR has slightly unethical ways of incentivising purchases but this one's not true.

This game has always been "pay to not lose" btw.
It was much worse for killers for long long time too.

DBD is pay to win tho lol to a certain extent

I'm glad to see survivors get a decent perk. Probably a nothing-burger, but something just don't really sit right with me on this though. We've already established it being behind a paywall. Even more so, is that they've slowly made other top-tier paid survivor DLC perks unattractive over time. The "meta-shakeup" effectively took a lot of other tools away from survs toolkit too ontop of this. Now this is introduced and it's put on a paid DLC just so you can attempt to have a tiny sliver of peace of mind since so many other tools survs had have effectively been neutered? Something something something BHVR is a business, yada yada yada. Still should have been a generic one to me.

Well for Ash is certainly made sense for them to do this as Ash's chapter was a survivor only. Without a "must have" perk it probably would not have sold as well as survivors are just skins and Ash is the loudest and biggest of them all.
For this chapter I attribute it more to incompetence and a lack of quality assurance by BHVR. This chapter doesn't need a broken perk to sell it. It's just that nobody did the easy math and said "Hey just one survivor alone can use this 5 times in one hook state and make a sing hook state last over 3 minutes, does that seem broken to you?"

The fact that it's Ashley Williams from Evil Dead in a horror game is good enough as it is.
Now this is Resident Evil. A horror game franchise on horror game. The numbers last year from the first chapter was huge. BHVR knows having a 2nd DLC would be another smash hit financially. The perk conspiracy holds no value.

Just some food for thoughts: when playing against me this perk will just sit there in your loadout and waste one of your perk slots, giving me a slight advantage. Its not pure "pay to win" or "pay to not lose", as it only counters one certain playstyle; a playstyle thats quite boring.
But as some players have encountered camping as a problem, so I don't mind such a perk existing, I just wanted to warn ya'll that you won't get much out of it when versing me :)
On a sidenote: why hasn't Camaraderie seen much of an uptake since the 6.1 patch? Before Reassurance this was basically a great option with a somewhat similar effect. Well, Camaraderie could use some QoL improvements, though, like informing the other players that you got it and they only have to come in range to trigger it. Besides that its a fun little perk that many soloQ players seem to be totally sleeping on.

To be fair, I think almost all meta killer perks are behind a paid DLC?
1 -
bro thats my job
1 -
I'm gonna hope that they were inspired by that recurring skit lol
0 -
Devour hope should be base kit for killers too. So should shadowborn, hex ruin and noed
1 -
It should've been added as a general perk just like they added boon breaking perk to general perks on killer side instead of locking it behind a licensed DLC pay wall.
0 -
I mean Kinship does currently exist as a survivor general perk now. I don't see an issue with Reassurance being tied to a licensed DLC.
0 -
Seriously? CoH? The single most broken, OP perk in the game? Not only No, but Hell No.
1 -
No it should not, every good survivor perk should be basekit? A meta should exist and kindred should be meta.
1 -
Perks as whole should be added in as general perks and not paid dlc.
0 -
Well DS isn't appealing anymore so they need to make more meta paywall perks for survivors.

Just change Kindred to being usable in both hook stages and give everyone a symbol showing that it is in use.
This way Kindred is the free version that's more a "Fire and Forget" type of weapon used once to eek out a bit more gen time, while Reassurance is the manually activated one that can be used over and over again.
EDIT: I am actually a bit surprised by Reassurances infinite usage if you tandem witjh a single other survivor.
All perks with a similar big impact on a timer had much longer cooldowns, like Trail of Torment (80/70/60s CD), Dragons Grip (120/100/80s CD) or Blood Echo (80/70/60s CD).
I understand that the outcry for a solution to camping was big, and also needed, but I think that Reassurances CD is way over tuned. Even with 60s CD it could be used by two survivors in tandem to get an infinite if played perfectly, but this at least would give the killer some kind of disruption opportunity.

They recently added that killer perk for totems, but have they added any general survivor perks in the last few years? And no, I don't mean Steve and Nancy perks, those don't count. I agree that Reassurance should be more widely available, it would make a great general pool perk and they should introduce another perk for the character.

I will agree. The basekit stuff, though good in theory, just doesn't seem to combat the problems.
