Question to Killers

When there’s a game that is clearly solos and you get the one or 2 people that quit, maybe the third quits or dies on a hook… when the 4th guy walks up to you and just wants mercy because he got screwed by his team… Why do 90% of you just kill them rather than be decent and let them get door or hatch? It literally takes no effort on your part and you prove nothing by killing them. Why is the instinct to be mean rather than merciful? I have my own opinion but I’d like to see if I’m right or not. Thanks in advance.

    Usually it’s because I don’t have the energy to go look for the hatch

    If they find the Hatch they can have it.

    Half the time they dick about, or if I approach them they carry on running away from me... and away from the Hatch at the same time.

    We both just want the game to be over, it'll be over faster if I hook you, than if I try to herd you around to the Hatch.

    On a rare occasion, there could be a challenge/daily to factor in. Maybe I need to get 12 kills for a challenge, and I've just had 2 DCs so I'm gonna try and get at least 2 kills out of it if I can.

    Bloodpoints, and your gonna get into a new match as survivor faster than the killer

    Don't blame all killers. If someone kills themself/dcs before first gen I let the whole team farm, assuming no one teabagged/bmed me

    But one the BMing starts its game over.

    I did recently spare a michaela who did three gens after the first guy dced first down and the other two toxically trolled me all match. Killed them and had michaela death hook, i closed hatch to be cheeky and took her to the door and let her go.

    A lot of killers will be nice.

    Also it depends on the time of month. If I'm going for my iri one I can't afford to let you go, but if I'm still in the early parts of it I will. Once I hit red4 though all bets are off until red1

    I base it off their performance. If that survivor gave me a juicer chase, did gens, unhooks and stuff, I’ll typically chase them till I catch them, then let them go. If it’s one of the survivors that sandbags or let’s their team do the work, idc if they had dc’s or not. They didn’t earn hatch.

    And as somebody said above, one clicky click, teabag, or point, no hatch. 🫡

    This is another thing though… If the killer decides to be ‘nice’ the unspoken rule seems to be: Down the survivor then carry them around looking for the hatch but if the survivor struggles they get hooked. If you’re going to be merciful just walk up to the survivor, swing or otherwise let them know you wont kill them, and then just let them find the hatch. But…. I’m guessing a lot of dipshit survivors try to take advantage in those situations and run around looking for chests and totems and wasting time… so yeah. I guess i get this.

    My rule of thumb is to 4k, otherwise I feel like I am gaming the system when it comes to my MMR. If I let people go I feel like I am trying to make my games easier.

    I usually just want the game over asap

    If that's letting last surv find hatch on their own or killing them bc their teammate refuses to let go on hook, so be it

    Some do. Had a Trickster let me and another survivor repair gens after the other 2 DCed.

    Probably changes with where we're at between rank resets. Haven't had much mercy in the past week but next week we might see more.

    Usually I'll let survivors go if there's a DC. Doesn't seem fair. Had a game recently though where a David realized I was letting him go and let me chase him a bit. I gave him a couple stuns then he took me to a hook and pointed to it. Figured he just wanted out of the game at that point.

    I figure if I kill them their MMR goes down and they'll have an easier time next time. Also personally I hate when people give me "pity wins" so I don't give them to other people either, I treat people the way I would want myself treated.

    These are a lot of reasonable answers. I appreciate the input. I’ll try to be less pissed at killers that kill me in this circumstance going forward.

    Here's my philosophy on hatch. I only give hatch to fellow PlayStation players and they either have to be an obvious newbie player, or someone who didn't give up and kept trying to help the team no matter how the game was going, meaning they finished a gen or saved their mate when they could have hid for hatch.

    Besides that, I almost never give hatch because I get teabagged and trash talked a lot when I lose playing 100% fair

    I definitely don't give hatch to juicers ever cause they're usually on PC and probably are cheating anyways.

    When playing Killer, I tend to not try too hard at the game. It is the only reason I appreciate the challenges because I can play the game just fine without being 100% sweating to get a good score (even if some people play like their lives depends on it).

    In most cases, if I see someone getting inconvenienced by their team I will probably let them go. The other day I was trying Spirit for the first time and I got two DCs within the first three minutes of the match, I let the other two farm points, hooked them twice each and just let them go. The match was already a tie anyway.

    This, so much this. I don't understand why people always talk about giving away the last hatch or being "merciful".

    I personally hate this idea of survivors going hat-in-hand up to the killer and begging them not to kill them, just as much as I dislike the idea of killers being "benevolent".

    There are times when people can cooperate in this game (like if it's basically over and the killer is leading you around so you can both get more bloodpoints etc) but I personally don't want to be any killer's pet*. If someone really wanted to be merciful they wouldn't close the hatch or they'd walk off into the wilderness somewhere while you make a 'daring' escape. If someone really wants to be generous in the game, they won't just hand something on a platter to you, they'll do it in a way that you'll never know.


    (*except huntress. She could pet my head any day. Or just sing to me, I'm not picky 🤣)

    I disagree with the take here and this is just my reasoning - playing as solo survivor for many hours per day, the games are very unbalanced. It’s not the killers fault, it’s matchmaking. Off peak hours the teams are almost always a mix of new and experienced survivors. So most games I enter into with a weak team making terrible plays and/or just quitting early and so get many, many bad games and losses. On top of the bad matchmaking, add in a large percentage of hard camping and tunnelling killers or nurse/blight, there is a very large amount of awful games. So honestly, yeah, it is asking for some mercy when you walk up to a killer after hours of being ######### on. That goes back to the original question… it’s like solo survivors get ######### on so hard… but they keep at it… and then sometimes in those clear situations where you think maybe the killer will just let me have a non-miserable experience and feel sort of good about the game and the people playing it instead of just hating it… they just kill me and I was just wondering… ffs why? Lol. Anyhow, I appreciate the insight and hope that I am giving at least some insight into the survivor experience as well.

    By not killing any survivor you can lose out on bloodpoints and grade progress, your MMR also becomes more innaccurate which is not good considering it doesn't seem to work well anyways.

    I mainly play survivor, and my survival rates are probably around 20-25% or so. Mostly because I'm pretty altruistic in the game, but often because...well it's kinda hard sometimes if you're not higher skilled.

    Matchmaking does kind of suck, and people were dc'ing and dying on first hook a lot and that made things kind of pathetic. People were also camping more, sometimes on moral grounds, which I didn't understand really.

    Is it fully balanced? Not at all, and some things need rebalancing, for sure. But at the end of the day, I do feel like people play this game a lot more than they should. If you have hours of being #hashed# upon, then maybe play something for a bit where it's not like that.

    I probably haven't said this before, but, I don't believe, outside of a few cases, that this game improves mental states. Much the opposite to be honest. The very small amount of positivity on these forums can maybe attest to that.
