How to measure impact of boon dark theory?

For example

WIth Hope I can feel the speed because killer isn't catching up that fast

WIth Q&Q I can hear that there are no sound

WIth Dark sense I can see killer's aura

etc.

I can feel SOME impact of literally any perk in game, except dark theory

Dark theory is one of my favourite perks in the game, think of it this way:

Think of any scenario where you just barely didn't make a pallet or window, with dark theory you would of made it.

There are a lot of these on the flip for Killer, too. Either the perk/addon has such a small significance that you don't directly observe the benefit, or the change is such an out-of-your-control influence that you never see its benefits.

I guess we gotta trust the game?

Definetely would give u that extra time to actually reach save to the pallet the problem is the boon issue.that may you not be on tge area when u need.

Im my opinion i would make it a normal perk that activates when you cleanse a totem and you are injured till the rest of the trial surely it would have a less niche use.

You don't feel the impact because it's so minimal. 2% haste ain't doing much in most situations.

Dark theory is useless because 2% isn't noticable but anything more than that could potentially be busted. Personally think it needs to be reworked to something else entirely, not sure why the devs thought a haste boon was a good idea anyway.

From the killers perspective there are a lot of situations were a survivor juuuuuust barely vaults through a window or drops a palette and escapes by the skein of their teeth.

In theory via Dark Theory this situations would happen more often, but that's the problem with this perk, ie it's such a minor effect that you can't verify in any way that the killer whiffed because of it.

I think boons like Dark Theory or Exponential should have a bigger radius, but BHVR wanted to have one size and one set of rules for all boons. While that's somewhat nice, it also limits design space and makes some boons strictly worse then others, no matter the situation.

Or what if some boons worked a little bit like hexes? You boon a totem and you get a certain effect, no matter were on the map you are.

Hexxy Boon: Exponential - Boon has 1/2/3 tokens. When you go down while it is lit you gain +100% recovery soeed and can pick yourself up, using up a token.

Hexxy Boon: Dark Theory - up to 1/2/3 survivors can interact with the totem for 7s. Afterwards their speed is increased by 2% so long the totem stands.

Yeah you're right. For some reason i was thinking half of 1% 😫

But yeah i still don't think it's valuable at all.

You would need to run 12.5 seconds to even get 1 meter of extra distance.

It destroys 110% killers. You have to commit to such a long chase just to get a hit on the survivor.

It makes you run at 4.08 m/s

Vs 4.6 killers it means that instead of catching up at 0.6 m/s they catch up at 0.52 meters per second which is about 13% slower

Vs 4.4 killers it means that instead of catching up at 0.4 m/s they catch up at 0.32 m/s which is about 20% slower

In a 10 meter stretch it means that

4.6 killers catch up in 19.2 seconds instead of 16.6 seconds

4.4 killers catch up in 31.2 seconds instead of 25 seconds

... if you can stay in the boon zone all that time.

Which is where the problem lies. The effect is pretty powerfull but because you have to stay with the short range of the boon it's hard to make good use out of it.

There are a couple of places in the game where you can put this in a main building and really make it hell for the killer and you can make another loop in a lot of structures

But overall it's really hard to make good use of it's effect. Even if it's stronger then it looks.

You don't, because there is no impact.

Let's make Dark Theory 7%, map wide and unsnuffable :D s/

Honestly. Dark Theory is so incredibly situational, but when you get value from it, it's fairly strong.

SWFd it when it came out and had fun stacking it with other perks, but by itself, it's very forgettable. Like most of the other perks available, it has its use, but it's so situational that I'd rather run something else, especially with the meta change.

The best way to understand the impact a movement speed perk has on chase time is to calculate what it does to the speed difference between you and the killer.

Dark theory makes you run at 4.08 m/s rather than the standard 4 m/s

A standard move-speed killer gains on a survivor at base speed at .6 m/s.

They gain on a survivor with dark theory at .52 m/s

They gain up on you 13.3% slower which really isn't much.

If there is a 12-meter gap between you and the lunge range of the killer it will take them an extra 3 seconds to catch up to you. A 12-meter gap is pretty sizeable for a chase, so it really doesn't have a considerable impact. 23 seconds instead of 20.

Edit: It is a little bit more helpful against a 110 killer, as a 12 meter gap for them normally takes 30 seconds but now takes 37.5. However, pretty much all 110 killers have chase powers makes their slower speed not quite as relevant and so it's still not great.

i bring all the boons. on some maps only coh and shadowstep bring benefits, on maps like the game it drives the killer crazy.

Right, the 2% is actually significant in terms of how long it takes a killer to catch up to you because it’s effectively closing the speed gap from 15% to 13% between the two of you (or even worse from 10% to 8%).

That said, what makes Boon Dark Theory not a great perk is it’s a limited range effect around a totem that can be snuffed. To get use out of it you have to be chased within that 24 meter radius which isn’t as large as it might seem. And even if you do there’s an excellent chance the killer will hear the Boon in the process and snuff it after the chase is over. So unless you got at least an extra 10-14 seconds out of the chase then you spent 14 seconds plus travel time setting up this effect for little reward. (And that’s assuming you even managed to get chased in that area which might not happen at all.)

To put it another way, they could probably make a survivor perk which increases your personal movement speed by 2% period, all the time no exceptions, and it would be a solid perk but not necessarily overpowered. This Boon is weaker than that.
