What do the devs get right?

This game is basically carried by the art team and licenced dlc.

I agree. BHVR was basically an indie developer, and they still managed to create what is, to date, the greatest horror game in its class. There are a lot of changes they do that I disagree with, but ultimately, they get a lot right. I'm cautiously optimistic for their upcoming game, too, because they have more resources and experience now. DBD had a lot of trial and error, especially in the early days (OG Feng always comes to mind lol She looked awful!)

i really like the looping/mindgame aspects of the game! it feels good to outsmart the other side, and it feels like there's something to learn, especially how to use all the killer powers.

Agreed. It's a grown-up, video game version of tag and hide and go seek (loosely). As kids, most of us ran around chasing each other. This is just a different version of that, and it's fun.

And also some of the changes or decision they implimented, which garnered a negative reaction, actually ended up being better for the game overall.
I'm glad that, whilst listening to feedback, they have also done what they wanted for - what in reality is - their game to do as they please.

At this point, I would like a new gamemode. I keep referring to Friday the 13th for their large maps and survivors actually having to try and escape rather than just hold m1.
DBD isn't really a horror game anymore when certain killers have jarring weaknesses or strengths and survivors can have ridiculous amounts of safety.
If they made a gamemode where survivors, instead of gens, had to find parts to build their escape route or do puzzles to unlock it. Or something like that.
