Why is the EU playerbase split in 2?

I'm not sure if this has ever been officially confirmed but the EU player base is definitely split in 2, at least. There seems to be UK servers and EU servers. But UK players (and a few other regions that I'm not sure of) cannot play with much of the EU player base and vice versa. I'm not sure when this split happend too because it wasn't always like this - perhaps when dedicated servers were introduced?

I and other players that play this game A LOT have noticed this through experience, although... it is probably well known, maybe?

Maybe there's an obvious reason like perhaps latency concerns, but... why is the EU playerbase split in 2?

This doesn't seem right, I get matched with both Russian and UK streamers all the time. And there's been some Italian ones in there too.

Guess it could be down to VPNs but I dunno.

There's a London server and a Frankfurt server. I definitely got connected to Frankfurt way more often playing with my ex, but I just sometimes get conntected there randomly lol

Its not split, you can Q with both Servers.

It is split. Although when playing in a SWF, the lobby host determines the server.

My SWF will ask me to host the lobby sometimes because they say the games are easier in UK. And sometimes they'll want me to join them because they say games are more sweaty in 'EU' servers.

    Thanks for the info!

I'm in the UK and get matched with Russians as well. I'm not sure exactly which regions go to which servers, but it's absolutely a thing.

I find it sad that I'm missing out on playing with other players in EU or that I could have potentially not met some friends had I not met them through other friends.

Also I get great ping on both servers so I don't see why I'm just restricted to the UK servers. And so do my 'EU' friends. Wouldn't there also be better queues if I could connect to both servers?

Just VPN to Frankfurt if you want to be on EU server.

I think they took two server locations simply because EU is a major region, might as well get more coverage. The "split" between the German and British servers isn't a hard split, you can in theory end up on either one, although it is true that most of the time players that are decidedly closer to one will almost only ever end up on that one, and that means the UK server is missing out on a lot of players from all over EU, especially Eastern EU and Russia of course. It is odd if you're regularly getting Russians on UK servers, though that might be due to VPNs.

I think Swedes are more likely to end up on UK servers, at least I rarely see them on German servers. Might just not be that many Swedes playing DbD. Spanish and French players probably get routed to either one roughly equally.

My friend and I are in France, and we get matched up both with players from UK and eastern Europe. I'm not sure how servers work.

I'm not sure the "British servers" that people keep talking about are actually in the UK. I've not looked recently, but it used to be that the most people in the UK got the lowest ping to, and were thus automatically connected to AWS Dublin.Although for me, quite often the ping to Frankfurt was just as low, and I would have a 1 in 4 chance of being connected to Frankfurt without using a VPN.

Like I said, unless it has changed, DBD was using AWS eu-west-1 (Dublin) servers, not eu-west-2 (London) for UK/Ireland. And eu-central-1 (Frankfurt) for rest of Europe.

Its not split, I live in eastern eu and get matched with russians and UK streamers as well. Just because theres 2 servers doesnt mean its impossible to get matched on either of them.

USA has multiple servers and its still possible to get matched with any of them, not just the closest one. Especially with the mmr matchmaking

Last time I checked Dublin (eu-west-1) is in the Republic of Ireland and not a part of the UK.

Thats super dumb if its true. im UK, but EU should all be the same

no wonder the long queue times

Sadly DBD uses AWS so the chance of this happening is next to zero but I agree. It's not fun for anyone to be forced to play constantly against and with people who have a ping of 150+.

im on Playstation and i get arab players in every lobby. "EU" server is actually arab server. Thats the case on Playstation dbd. But most important that there are no arabs on US server right? europeans, you can get them. Russian players on playstation? very rare. 95% arabs, the other 5% are german, brits, french. thats it.

Yeah I had a bf who lived in Germany so I'd get connected to Frankfurt since I'd always join his lobby. But since we're no longer together, I get connected to Frankfurt far less.
