Was I wrong to check for a bug/exploit? What should I do in a situation like this?

A while ago I played Dredge on Coldwind and got a loud noise notif at a locker that seemed unusually far away. I teleported and got a grab. I was worried the range was bugged and that I had therefore exploited it. However in hindsight I suspect the survivor I grabbed had missed a healing skillcheck, which has longer notif range, and then tried to enter or lock the locker as I teleported. But I was still unsure and scared that I had abused a bug.

More recently, I played Dredge in Swamp, and got a loud noise notif from across the map at shack gen. When I teleported and didn't see anyone, I remembered my Coldwind match, and checked the lockers incase there really was a bug, and that the notif I got was a locker notif. However, it was empty, so I think my suspicion of a bug was wrong. Especially since I believe I had Overcharged the gen, making it more probable that it was the gen blowing up.

But was it wrong to try and check? I wouldn't have thought of it if I didn't suspect a bug, so if there was someone in there, it would've been an unfair advantage for me, getting a grab. To be honest, I didn't think about what I would do if there was someone in it when I checked. In the past I've gone friendly after a bug gave me a blatantly unfair advantage, but I don't know that I would've done something similar in this situation if someone was in the locker, as it just feels much more complicated to judge.

But I don't think I was really wanting/trying to "play dirty" either. That is to say, I didn't want them to be in the locker. I was really hoping I was wrong, and really glad that I was, as I never want to infringe upon the game rules in any way.
