Is it bannable to "try" to exploit?
What I mean is, when I play killer I often do these "placebo" like things that feel like they help even if they don't do anything. So for instance, moving to body block a window after hitting a survivor even though I know they can just run through me anyway since they lose collision. But now I feel like that's sorta attempting to exploit. Like, if there WAS a bug that actually made it effective at blocking the survivor, than because of my placebo habit, I would surely end up in a situation where I take advantage of it even if I didn't expect to.
Another instance is when a survivor is downed in the middle of a pallet, and I would always walk through and try to time the pickup on the furthest edge possible of the pickup prompt range. I did this with a mindset of "maybe it's a trick that works", wondering if perhaps doing that lets you pick up from slightly farther or something. I've done a brief test and I think that that isn't the case, but I can't be sure. But I feel horrible for thinking that way in the first place. I feel like that's an attempt to exploit, even though I didn't even know for sure if it actually made a difference, and if it did then I didn't know if it was intended or not.
I also ask because there are "tricks" that feel like exploits but apparently aren't, like Hillbilly's camera clipping through walls after his chainsaw sprint ends, or Killers being able to lunge across the hole in Badham's main building. I think that one got patched but a streamer I saw using it didn't get banned so I'm guessing it didn't count as an exploit somehow.

I don't think it's bannable. You know it doesn't normally work, you're doing it purely as a psychological thing. If one day you encounter a bug and benefit from it ? Cool for you, you'll be the first one to be able to report it.

The examples you gave there are not actual exploits, you are just trying out the mechanics of the game itself. Like for example chasing survivors moving backwards to trick them with your red stain isn't an exploit either.
When it comes to ACTUAL exploits:
Exploit and report anything you can on PTB. That's what Public tests are for, to identify and correct problems. To be safe don't "try" exploits on the live game, just report them if you know about any.

As another poster said that's not really an exploit. Something that would be bannable would be like abusing legions old infinite mend bug and then you going into multiple games to "test" it.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I can't play PTB (I'm from Epic Games), but I'll definitely remember to be more careful in live game.
