Do "free" perks belong in the shrine?

There are 213 perks in DBD. Of these there are 36 general perks that are always unlocked and do not appear in the shrine.

There are 6 free killers with 3 unique perks each (Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Nurse, Nea, Huntress)

There are 6 free survivors with 3 unique perks each (Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake, Bill, David)

Math time:

213-36-36= 141 perks.

There are 52 weeks in a year. Let's assume the yearly celebration lasts 2 weeks and every other week there is a "normal" shrine. So 50 weeks x4 perks= 200 potential perks per year outside the event shrine.

DBD could move to a fixed rotation where we get 141 perks after 3/4ths of a year - but that's asking for a radical change. New perks would always appear in the shrine before a year had passed.

Suggestion : Remove the 36 "free" perks from the rotation so that new players who do not own all the DLC can have better access to all the perks.


Example: let's say next week we remove all the "free" perks from the shrine. Let's say you want Deadlock from Pinhead. Assuming all perks have the same chance to be picked with no forced lock out date then you have a much better chance to get a perk you don't have with 141 choices rather than 177 options. Remember that two perks will be for the killer so that reduces your chances further.

Note: Perks very likely have a lock out date to discourage people getting them immediately after the DLC launches.

Even if there is no hard stop - keeping all the "free" perks in the shrine serves as a "soft block" to reduce the chances of you getting the DLC perks you want.




Perks from the original cast and free characters can be easily unlocked now with the recent changes. Putting those perks in the shrine servers to "water down" the availability of DLC perks. If you click on this link you can see that old perks like Enduring, Balanced Landing and Urban Evasion have been in the shrine 23 times : ( https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Shrines_of_Secrets_Archive ).

When the shrine was introduced in 2016 it was announced as a way for players to unlock access to new perks when they do not own all the DLC. Why then are we getting so "free" perks in the shrine? We do not need them anymore thanks to the progression changes.


How is having Brutal Strength and Prove Thyself in the shrine helpful? You can unlock either very quickly by spending points on Trapper/Dwight. New players will earn 1M BP much faster than they will ever be able to acquire 2000 shards.

Pinhead was released on Sept 7, 2021 and his perks have appeared in the shrine 0 times one year and weeks later. Instead we got a bunch of free perk repeats. Was that helpful to you?


Looking at the current shrine and the past 4 shrines there have been 9 "free" perks. That means only 11/20 perks were DLC perks.
