Why can't killers switch after readying?
I know its been in the game for a while but I've never quite understood why the killer choice is locked in. Like, they can change perks and everything else on a killer so what does changing the killer make a difference? It doesn't even bother me because once I decide who I'm playing I see no reason to change but it just confuses me what difference it makes whether you pick the killer 10 seconds before the match starts or before joining matchmaking. I'm sure there's a reason but I just don't quite understand.

Each killer has their own mmr, the better you do with a killer the higher in mmr you are with that specific killer.
Depending on you mmr determines what kind of survivors you get.
For example:
If you suck with trickster and only get 1k majority of your games you'll get bad survivors, but if you 3-4k the majority of matches with nurse you'll go against good survivors.
The reason you can't swap is so you can't load up as trickster to go against bad survivors and than switch to nurse.

The argument for not allowing it is rather moot, considering any killer can artificially reduce their MMR at will. Survivor as well, though that's more detrimental to the survivor.

Simple blame the mmr system that's why you can't swap killers anymore

It was done so that they could have their own MMR, which they then scrapped for a bit, but then kinda brought back? My understanding is that its currently weighted by all your killers (to compensate for M1 killers basically being very similar) but it does still have individual tracking that primarily (i think?) gets used, with things like that aforementioned average affecting the starting MMR of newly purchased killers (with their amazing starting loadouts)
Its been clarified a few times but I honestly don't even care at this point, but that should be at least partially accurate.

Its not a matter of comodity, its a matter of the game using algorithms to find your match, if you queue with a Killer with 0 MMR it will search for Survivors with a similar MMR, once the lobby starts forming if you switch the Killer to one with 2000 MMR the algorithm has to switch too and start searching for new Survivors, what if there is already 2 people in the lobby? Do they get kicked for new Survivors? Do they stay and face a Killer way more proficient? How does the system calculate your MMR if you make a switch in between? switching Killer during queue opens the door for a ton of problems.
That being said they could implement a way of players picking a Killer and then being able to level other Killers while waiting without making a switch, this way people can use the queues to burn through BPs.
