Does anyone have any experience playing Dbd with an internet speed of 18mbps? I recently moved and had to leave behind my wonderful Fiber access and downgrade to cable or dsl. I tried getting cable which is advertised as 300mbps but the company has been having trouble getting a technician to come and fix my connectivity issues (been almost a month now). From my understanding, my city has a large back up of customers waiting for service.
I’ve decided it’s better to have some internet instead of no internet so while I wait for them to come (God knows when), I won’t die of boredom. I’m just dreading the thought of gaming and streaming stuff at that low of a speed. Anyone else currently using this speed? If so how is it? I understand I may have to wait a long time for downloads, but will I lag a lot? I’ll be the only person using my connection so no one else will be hogging it.
Please pray for me. Make sure to pray I win the lotto soon as well, that way I could build a house with access to Fiber, with Ethernet outlets in every room and a solar roof top for cheap electricity and so I could bribe Behaviour to make me a Bush cosmetic for Claudette.

I don't have much experience of playing at 18mbps, but my step-dad lives in a private area and only manages to get about 5mbps on a good day. I bought him a PS5 as he loves Call of Duty (I got him into it when the PS3 came out) and he plays it religiously every evening for an hour or two. He says sometimes he gets a few games that lag, but otherwise plays without issue and enjoys it. He tends to lag more when we play together and I'm the host.
I imagine you will have a similar experience, although I'd recommend you don't stream and stick to solo for the time being.

You can probably solo game on 18mbps so long as it's stable at that rate, and you don't have a microscopic upload speed.
I used to live in an area where I never got much higher than 10-11mbps and could still play many online games (I did a lot of multi Borderlands, PvP Souls, etc.), and my kid played Overwatch all right. Not ideal, but perfectly workable.
But if it's peaking at 18mbps and taking big dips...well that's something else.

It's more about the stability of the line rather than the speed.
Check your connection page (Most importantly is errors/packet loss) and maybe run a ping test; these are the two most important metrics.

Thank you, this makes me feel better. I don’t stream and mostly play solo, though I got some coworkers interested in trying this game out. I’m hoping it’s only temporary and I’ll eventually get 300mbps soonish*.

I can't speak for 18 but before we got fiber I was on 25 down and 1.5 up. There was some occasional lag but nothing really game breaking. I played both killer and survivor and sometimes with my brother and nephew with hardly any issues.
Rocket League was a completely different story but I think that was more to do with the stability of my connection than the speed itself.

Good to hear! You'll be fine. You may experience a little inconvenience here and there but it won't restrict you from playing games or streaming shows. My Mum and Step-Dad stream a lot (Netflix & Prime) and can still enjoy shows at 5mbps.

Its 2022, these telecommunication companies need to seriously reinvest in their networks. No one should be with internet below 100mbps these days.
I wish I was a billionaire, I’d start my own private fiber company and charge $9.99 a month for 500mbps just to make the competition cry.
Id also buy BHVR give us a proper Evil Dead chapter just for you (I’m assuming your a fan due to your avatar).

Sounds like Comcast. They've a bunch of areas limited to "300mbps" (if you hit higher than 200 you're lucky) because they have a monopoly and they're too cheap to upgrade the area. The service is so unstable and the hardware/wiring so ######### that they have to outsource much of their work to the cheapest third party techs they can find.
I was stuck with them until gigabit fiber came in, and literally so much of the area switched that the new provider had to bring in an army of installers. There were fiber trucks on every street, every block, for weeks.

18mbs will do fine, you dont really need a huge amount of download speed to play online games as long as you have a stable connection.
Iv played on packages between 25-800mb and I couldn't tell you the difference as both ran fine and both could have issues (because it's not always a you problem)

It’s good to hear. I was ignorant about the differences between internet speed, stability and packet loss. I was just so comfortable having fiber for a few years, I just got spoiled.
Hopefully my connection is great and I wouldn’t need to worry.

As long as its stable and not actually dropping connection you should be fine, it may impact more if you connect to servers you shouldn't via VPN or swf with a host outside of your respective servers though.
But like I said in my first comment iv played on all packages and its usually always the same outcome. I use to think my 25mbs was the cause of bad hits and latency etc. But when I got 800mbs and it still happened i soon realized it wasn't on me.
The system you use has more impact on the game than your download speed so and xbox one will run much worse than the series X for example.
All you can do is try it for awhile and see how it goes, either way happy gaming!

Even 10 would be enough. Latency, ping variation, noise and upload ratio is more important than the bandwidth above like 8Mbps.
Bandwidth is more important if you are intending to upstream or downstream video, though as that does requires to move tons of data depending on source video.
