Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

How SWF and online gameplay content negatively changed the expectations of players.

So I remember when SWFs where not a thing in DbD partying up was not a thing period, you could choose to help your team out or go it alone once in game.

Now when I say go it alone I mean just that, there was no obligation to make a save or take a hit.

Perks like Bond could and would be used to find your team mates when you are being chased, and pass the killer off on to them so that you can survive.

To quote Dwight....

"We have to work as a team, I need you to survive so that I can survive!" — Dwight Fairfield

Dwight isn't just saying friendship and team work is our goal, he is also saying I will help you in order to escape, which also means if for example having to choose between coming back to unhook you during End Game Collapse, or walking out of the gate and leaving you on hook become options, both are equally the correct play, even if Dwight has a 0% chance of dying and a 100% chance to get the save and body block for a double escape.

Even now I come across the odd cheeky Survivor who will throw a Diversion my way, or use deception on someone hiding in the lockers when they are being chased and disappear, leaving that poor Survivor to take chase while they run off into the distance leaving no scratch marks, sandbagging could be used to save your own skin rather then just trolling your friends in your SWF, the matches where more interesting for sure.

When the ability to party up or SWF came into the game everything started to change, taking hits, safe unhooking and generally putting yourself on the line for your team mates wasn't just possible to co-ordinate due to mics, but it was increasingly becoming an expectation, even if all four players in the game where Solo que.

This in my opinion massively increased the amount of Toxic behavior in the end game chat, I wont say in game though as taking hits etc are the expectations of other players, not the fundamental rules and etiquette of Dead by Daylight, especially when it comes to Solo que.

I feel this level of Intrigue in DbD should be accepted and enjoyed, just as much playing the hero is.

If your goal is to escape and to hell with everyone, then it is OK.

If your goal is to save everyone, even at the cost of escaping yourself, then it is OK.

Enjoy DbD, and embrace every level and manner in which it can be played.

We all play this game because we want to, so play it the only way you can...Your way!
