If BHVR really wants to "celebrate our portugusese-speaking community", then stop ignoring this.

So, 11 days ago, the game's official twitter posted this and revealed 3 portuguese words as codes for bloodpoints.

As a brazilian who plays this game a lot, I liked the initiative, but one thing really annoys me about it: there is an issue in this game that affects every player, but is worse for anyone speaking in a language that isn't english, which includes portuguese speakers. This issue has been IGNORED by the devs for nearly two years now. The issue is: the terrible chat filter.

Seriously, the chat filter is bad for everyone, but is even worse if you're trying to communicate in other languages. There are many english words that seem to randomly get censored, but not always. But if you try to type in, let's say, portuguese, there are words you can't send ever simply because they slightly resemble some english slur.

Want an example? Well, the verb "to want" is "querer" in portuguese. If you want to use it in the indicative, like, let's say... He wants, it's translated "ele quer".

You might have noticed the word has some resemblance to a certain term that refers to LGBT+ people, sometimes used in a pejorative way. Well, due to that, the chat aways censors this verb as if you were writing a slur. I can never explain I "wanted to" do something when talking to other brazilian players, because then there will be a bunch of ######## in the middle of my line and there's a good chance they won't understand what the hell I mean. That is just ONE example, there are MANY, COUNTLESS non-english words that get censored just like that.

Recently I have even complimented the devs for actually listening to the community for some recent changes to the game. But when it comes to anything regarding the chat filter, there is no other word for it, they IGNORED and keep ignoring it. The whole community seems to agree the chat filter is bad, doesn't do its job and makes communication harder... and is rare for the community to agree on something. There's also no way fixing the chat filter is harder than many, more complicated changes that are talked about. Yet, I've never seen a single dev acknowledge the issue on a stream or even answer to a thread about it on the forums. The way it seems, the devs don't think it matters at all and don't have no intention to ever change it or talk about it even if all the community dislikes.

So, the way I see this whole "celebrating portuguese-speaking" post is: "You speak portuguese? Nice! We're giving everyone some bloodpoints for writing three words once... but good luck trying to actually talk in this language in our game".

Trust me, trying to speak in German is equally as tragic. "Ich hoffe" (I hope) will just become #########, and don't even think about wishing someone good luck in their future games (viel Glück becomes ##########).

Thankfully, Eichhörnchen has been left untouched (for now).

Seems like a rather superfluous complaint when the chat filter censors words like 'Mark' and 'GG'. You already can't speak English, let alone any other language.

It's totally random, or rather, it follows some kind of arcane algorithm to proactively censor potential slurs, almost as if it can choose to censor words simply because that word was said with another word that was filtered, or because a word has been said too often.

For all we know 'Portuguese' might be filtered because the end of it looks a bit like 'geese' and someone once said "######### geese" so now it censors 'geese'.

I have never understood the logic of how DBD's chat filter works.

Like, if I 4K people with Freddy, and I type "gg, every town has an Elm Street" in chat (which is a well-known Freddy quote), it censors the word "town." I don't even know what that word is supposed to be close to, in terms of something censorable. I'm sure the intentions are good, but I wish we just had the option to turn the filter off, just like you can in every other game that exists.

what about some missing/incorrect add on descriptions though?

Try speaking in spanish amd you also get the same result. Words as trivial as 'negocio'(business) or 'pensá' (think) are also banned and censored.

You cant write two sentences without the chat censoring half the words and making it seems you are insulting the other to their core.

For example, this addon from piramid head does not say what effect it provides in spanish. It only has the cosmetic description.

yes there are quite many of em. Legions BFFS add on does also miss its description in german. But there are so many. i might actually start a thread and try to gather them if the dc situation got dealt with.

    You should.

A few months ago, i made a thread asking to update some perks' text in spanish. After 6.1.0 there were a lot of perks that were never updated and kept the old effects in the description. I remember 'botany' didnt tell of the 20% medkit efficiency penalty or dead hard continue to say the 1 sec activation windown instead of 0,5.

yeah i have a feeling that is too much to work on for them, or very low priority, same with old tome challenges, some should be reworked. Not all but quite a few.

Though i think it will never happen, it cant do harm gathering missing descriptions and put it in a feedback thread. You can even attach the ones for spanish to my thread if you want. As i said though, rn i feel no incentive to play the game at all with the dc situation. But once the penalties are back ima look into it.

A chat filter is a bad idea in general... people already have the option not to open it anyway. People can be offended about many things but just because it offends you or touches a fiber, doesn't mean it deserves to be censured.
