Can a Survivor self-unhook after the Entity Summoned points event?

Trying to determine whether a survivor in my game was cheating or just insanely lucky. Endgame Collapse, 2 survivors dead, 2 never hooked. I catch one and hook them before other survivor leaves. They still get to attempt to unhook because they were hooked before last standing survivor left, no problem. They make a couple of attempts, meter goes down to half and 'Entity Summoned' points pop up on my screen. And THEN the survivor unhooks and escapes, presumably through hatch: I wasn't paying attention because I was elsewhere on the map and thought the kill was assured. Is this possible? What kind of timing would be involved to pull that off? Were they cheating? I'm on console so I can't check PC user profiles for the usual suspicious signs.

Presumably if they entered the struggle phase and unhooked themselves they were hacking, did that particular survivor do anything else that was suspicious?

Honestly I barely saw them for most of the match, since I wasn't playing a high-mobility/info-gathering killer and was honestly struggling to keep up for a lot of the time. They did climb into a locker right in front of me, but a lot of survivors do that for a lot of reasons.

They might have done it at the last possible millisecond? I've personally experienced it a couple of times where the survivor would be rescued right before the next stage but the kill/hook counter would still count it.

Was the hatch escape immediately after the unhook? Because that would make it suspicious.

Otherwise it could just be lag, they unhooked themselves a half second before they went 2nd stage, but you didn't get the unhook notification until after they would have gone 2nd stage.

There is a bug with self unhooks where a survivor kobes but instead of only being down 1 hook state they will be down 2. Usually it's survivors complaining about it because they'll self unhook in a match, get downed and then die on their next hook instead of going into struggle. I'm guessing when this happens normally killers get the scoring event but don't notice since it's midmatch where it's not a big deal but in your case it was EGC last survivor where it was noticeable.
