Survivor escaping through the hatch with a key

Say, when I close the hatch as killer, and the survivor has a key and exits with it through the hatch, is it visibly open? I had one survivor escape, and the only way can be through the hatch (I closed earlier), the hatch was close to an exit gate, so i could see it clearly after the survivor escaped, and it was still showing as closed. Is that possible?
