Spine Chill in 2023
Spine Chill was changed a while back so that it now activates when the killer is in 36m range. It's easy to imagine how this would hurt stealth killers. (The survivor can just go to a pallet even if they don't know where the killer is coming from).
Even just one spine chill can hurt immensely; the survivor running it can pair up with other players, effectively protecting 2+ survivors with a single perk. With the new gen indicators it's even easier to tell if a spine chill user feels danger approaching.
I heard that this change was just a placeholder for the terror radius indicator, but any news on when that's coming? Will it also remove this feature from Spine Chill, as it should? Spine chill should have the terror radius indicator removed and just light up if killer is in LoS and in range. That way it's still a viable anti-stealth killer perk with fair counterplay on both sides.

Spine Chill worked the same way... but it's only when the Killer was looking at you
But anyway... It's a perk that Survivors can use

Spine Chill is literally gutted now, Eruption on the other hand......

Spine chill didn't require LoS and instead was just if the killer is looking in your direction.

When they added this effect to Spine Chill, they said specifically that it is a placeholder for the Visual Terror Radius that is going to be added. Since a lot of deaf players were upset about Spine Chill's rework (and rightfully so considering how this game relies a lot on audio) so BHVR added the effect as a temporary addition until they flush out the Visual Terror Radius.

They... nerfed spine chill, you realize that, right?
It was specifically made worse so it didn't counter stealth killers as hard.
Before, you didn't have terror radius, the killer (who is stealthed) looks at your gen from far away, and you simply know he's coming to you and you get gone long before he's there.
Now, the killer has to actually SEE you before it activates. By that point he's often already, y'know, hitting you.
The visual terror radius you're talking about only works if there IS a terror radius to visualize. It does nothing against a stealthed killer.

That’s not how it works though.
The LOS restriction is only for the action speed bonus. The perk icon still lights up if the killer is within 36m, even if there isn’t a terror radius and even if they aren’t looking in your direction at all.
They nerfed it by removing the vault speed boost, but it was buffed against stealth. It went from having awkward counterplay by looking away to not having a counter at all.

So they changed it again?

No, that’s how it’s worked since 6.1.0 (though iirc it was slightly different on the 6.1.0 PTB). The only change since then was that they inverted the direction of the terror radius gauge (it was going in the opposite way).
The terror radius gauge and the perk icon lighting up within 36m are two completely separate functions. If you go against Wesker (with a 40m TR), you can see the TR indicator on the perk with the icon not lit up, because you can be in his TR without being within 36m.

It'd be fine if that were the case, but thats not how the perk works. It will light up anytime the killer is within 36m, whether or not they're in LoS and disregarding TR.

"hurt stealth killers"
Thats the point of Spine Chill, literally the only perk that can counter them

Sadako also has very high winrate.
SoloQ cant deal with her at all

I didn't say I didnt want counterplay, I added a potential fix which makes it fair. Current Spine Chill, however, does it too unfairly and heavily in the survivor's favor.
2 -
As you were told, the current effect is a placeholder until BHVR have implemented their version for people who have hearing issues.
So I think "too unfairly" and "heavily in the survivors favor" is not really fair if the effect you are complaining about is in the game due to accessibility.

Is it good design to have a perk that specifically counters the only thing some Killers are meant to do, which is better than even the detection against non stealthed Killers normally, and is beneficial even against other Killers?
It's a bit weird that it's vastly better than the actual audio cues they give out.
2 -
True, but the devs have been vague on this subject and have backtracked on their claims multiple times (like changing Blight's hug-tech). I was hoping to address this before any future changes were made.

They actually mentioned this in their Roadmap Additions:
Visual Terror Radius
This past year, we’ve been working hard to make Dead by Daylight more accessible to a wider audience. For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, the terror radius can be difficult or even impossible to keep track of despite being a crucial part of the game.
To remedy this, we’ll be introducing new accessibility options which, when enabled, will provide a visual representation of terror radius.

Yes

See, seems like there they are referring to the terror radius indicator, which is the clock-like UI on the perk icon. It doesn't seem to be related to the 36m activation of the perk, which is independent of TR.

It's strange to me that premonition didn't get these changes instead. Premonition is intended to be an info perk, and does nothing but give a minor amount of info. Spine Chill basically is doing several things at once even better than what premonition already does and then some.

I see. I had the perk explained to me by someone else who misinterpreted it and I just believed them lol, I didn't read the actual new perk description until now.
