Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

R Jelly vs Map Piece

R Jelly is 20% slow down.

Map Piece offers 5 seconds.

5 seconds is greater than 4 seconds.

How come R Jelly is Yellow and Map Piece of Brown?

    Which add-ons are these, specifically?

The full name of the yellow add on is blocked by the forum word censor.

Oh, they're add-ons for the Map item!

Rarities don't always make sense. Tombstone piece is better than Tombstone for example.

its not explained in the game, but Jelly is 5 second increase. 20% extra slowdown is not 20% additional time on the map.

Its 20% slower charge depletion. Basically every 1 second = 1 second of the map. The map has 20 charges, so it takes 20 seconds to burn out a map. If you use Jelly, it becomes 1 charge every 0.8 seconds. 20/(1-0.2) = 5 seconds. Jelly and map piece give equivalent amount of time when used individually. If used together(put duration add-on first then put Jelly). it will give you 31.25 seconds of total map use.

Jelly is only useful if your trying stack both duration and depletion rate, otherwise there is no difference. There is no reason to use them together though. You would only use them toghether in a green map if you use detective hutch as perk. Odd stamp, Unusual stamp and Red Twine are main add-on to use when using a map.

I think it depends on the map you use. Since jelly slows usage by 20%, if I remember correctly the red map benefits more from retardant jelly, and the green map with it's shorter usage time benefits more from the straight 5 second increase of map addendum.

Jelly saves 5s on a green map, and more if you bring duration boosters. I'll show you the math. The Jelly reduces the speed you use your map by 20. Imagine it was 50%. Then the map would last twice as long, right?

    20s / 0.5 = 40s.

    Makes sense.

    The Jelly reduces by 20%.

    20s / 0.8 = 25.

Think of it like this. If you save a half, how much extra do you need to use up the rest? 100% extra, you need to do it twice as long, right?

If you save 20%, how much extra time do you need to use up the rest? 25% extra. 80% is what you've used. But you still need to use the last 20%.

    25% of 80% is 20%. 80% + 20% is 100%. So it lasts 25% longer.

Probably easier to explain visually but I hope you get the point.

    If you reduced usage by 90%, it would be 10x longer, right? 20s / 0.1 = 200s.
