Are you on console/controller? Then just forget it.
M&K? Go ahead, learn against bots in custom matches the basics, how to flick, etc. and yeah watch some content creators that main him and are actually giving advice instead of trying to make the community even more toxic than it is already.

You don't need to fully charge Demon Strike in order for it to instadown people, Charge for the same duration as a lunge and it'll still count
Second, don't pick up everything you down someone, Oni's power lasts as long as the gauge lasts or until you pick someone up, If you think people are nearby, go for them too, Infectious is one of Oni's best perks because of this

The only real advice for Oni is watch pro Oni mains on Twitch and practise practise practise.

I assume you meant console, and if so that's a sad sad commentary on this killer with a controller 🎮.
Tried Oni a few times on my Xbox. Couldn't turn fast enough to land hits within his power, and flicks are unheard of. Even at max sensitivity.
So I put him down when Trickster came out. Now that is some real pain for sure with a controller my friend. Try it some time on a bud's PS4 or whatever.

Just play him. Really, the best way to get better at anything is to practise. You will fail a lot. But eventually you'll discover what works, how to play around certain loops etc.

If it helps, a solid build I've seen recommended for him, assuming you have the perks, is: Lethal Pursuer, Trail of Torment, Nowhere to Hide, and Eruption.
To start with, the video I'm taking this build from was made prior to Eruption's nerf. That said, the reason for Eruption's inclusion is because what it does is make downs with your Kanabo into potential regression, incentivizing downing with your power when possible.
Lethal is obvious since getting damage in early is critical for an Oni. Trail of Torment and Nowhere to Hide are included to make as much out of his power as possible. Nowhere to Hide gives you a chance to catch out Survivors after kicking a gen, Trail of Torment enables you to do so with a little less warning than they might have otherwise.

Yeah I meant console, adjusted it thx.
oh. Oh dear god. I recently switch from controller to M&K on pc and had a Trickster daily. And damn is Trickster easy on Mouse compared to controller.

It took me watching a Scott video before I learnt that you didn't have to fully charge Demon Strike, I felt like a dumbass when I learnt that it works XD

Yeah even if we had stable frame rates Trickster is just a nightmare on controller. Can't group your shots due to the inconsistent & unpredictable recoil, and strafing is near impossible to pull off.
Pure pain.

I recommend watching Lipy on Twitch for Oni dash logic and flicks.

He is playable on console but just much more limited than on pc. I say he is still B tier on console so still solid killer agains't most survivors. Blight for example is much more unplayable and survivors can spin easily to dodge his hits.
