Should Blindness Be Reworked?
I don't believe anyone has ever considered Blindness to be particularly oppressive, but of the features that disproportionately hurt Solo Queue more than SWF, Blindness is right there at the top.
Therefore, in an effort to bridge that gap, should Blindness be reworked?

Definitely. I always thought that blindness was supposed to be an irritating effect that people would want to get rid of ASAP.
It should be something like dredge's nightfall that would affect the skillcheck, the environment etc.. but not too oppressive.

Blindness exists to counter certain survivor perks. It's already one of the weakest status effects in the game, the fact it's sometimes capable of functioning as intended is not a bad thing.

Not reworked, just given an additional functionality. Have blindness also remove the survivor's ability to see the red stain. Will make playing at some tiles much more dangerous as many killers can inflict blindness with their power.

it is actually insanely cringe on indoor maps. Play against a killer using knockout and 3rd seal on rpd and you will quickly realize that blindness should be outright reworked

Instead of aura which ends up hurting solo q when it comes to slugs/hooks have it instead apply to killers red stain, then it hurts both swf and solo equally.
Would be interesting if it made it so you couldn't see things like pallets/totems until you were close to them or make it like Freddy's pill bottle add on where you don't see the killer if they aren't nearby - although I could see it being bugged and killers/pallets/totems staying invisible.

Sort of. I think it should be adjusted in a way that doesn’t make it as punishing for solo players (honestly I just don't want it to affect slugs and hooked survivors) and then it could probably get an additional effect in return. Knockout should also be changed for similar reasons.
But its ability to counter other aura-reading such as WoO or Alert is fine and shouldn’t be touched.

I like Blindness. I used to get so much value from it back when I started playing with Hag's base perks !
I did stop using Third Seal because I felt bad about it affecting SoloQ a lot. But I don't think it's useless or that it should be removed : Blindess is a good way to counter Windows, Fogwise, Alert and generally counter aura reading perks, especially with Fearmonger for example.

I honestly feel blindness is very underrated.
Take a moment in your next couple of games to see how many aura perks the survivors are using. Especially windows addicts get screwed by blindness.
Also helps with slugging which is the key to pressure
The thing with blindness is that you don't really see the affect yourself.
When you down a survivor that could have made it to a pallet if they saw it with windows you typically won't know it.

Remove it or just make it so it only works so survivors don't benefit from aura reading perks or addons. Let them see all other auras.
1 -
I agree with you, I definitely think it is underrated.
As you said, people underestimate how many aura perks are being used. Additionally, people overestimate how often Survivors are playing in a 4-man SWF, AND how often those SWF are providing detailed comms to their team.
Generally tho, I don't think Blindness is removing information the Survivors aren't already capable of playing without. If anything, it feels like a cheap shot at casuals who rather react to their environment than assess and plan every single move.

................You actually want to NERF blindness?

Blindness don't really do much and most killers don't even use perks or addons that cause blindness so I am not sure how it is hurts soloq players. Especially considering from my experience as soloq even when you encounter it, it isn't particularly noticeable. Then again I'm also not new to the game and not super dependent on Aura reading perks beyond bond. Like all the super important things like hooked survivors or downed survivors are pretty noisy which is enough to find them unless you're hard of hearing.

I’m down for a rework to make it effect solo and swf equally but I’ve yet to hear a good idea of how to do that. It’s extremely difficult to only ever make changes that effect both groups equally.

Yes for the reasons OP stated. I'm not screaming from the roof tops for it to be nerfed but it just makes sense that it should be.
1 -
I liked the idea where it hides the Killer's Red Stain.
This stops it from being disproportionally effective against Solo Q and being useless against SWF's.

Blindness is weird.
It's meant to counter aura perks, and it does do that. The problem is that auras, by their very nature, are merely sources of information. With some exceptions (such as Windows in some cases), information is a resource SWFs typically have for free and is one of the major aspects that makes them stand out compared to solos. Why run Kindred when my teammates can simply tell me the killer is camping or who is where?
I wouldn't mind if this was a function of Blindness, but not the sole function. Similar to hemorrhage's buff some time back, give it a secondary effect. A popular suggestion is that a survivor suffering from Blindness cannot see the Red Stain. Believe it or not, the technology for this does exist; if a Doctor with Discipline chases you, he does not have a red stain. Other survivors will see it just fine, but you? You will not see it on him (you'll see it on your back due to how the add-on works, but Doc himself lacks it).

I'm a big fan of this suggestion. It wouldn't feel terribly oppressive to Survivors, and it'd suddenly make every Killer Add-On that causes Blindness an appealing option.
1 -
Hiding the Red Stain sounds like a great addition to Blindness, but it should still continue to block aura-reading.
3 -
Have it hide skill checks. XD you can't really repair a generator or heal someone easily if you're blinded.

Nerf blindness i've heard it all now.

Was this meant to be condescending? Because it's pretty ignorant of you to make such a comment.
Most in this thread are interested in either adding an additional effect to Blindness, or replacing it with something else. What seems to be a popular suggestion here would probably be seen by most as a buff.
1 -
Could have it apply that darkening effect Deep Wounds has, but not worsening over time.
I too am in favor of it playing around with the Red Stain. If not eliminating it perhaps it becomes a circle around the killer instead. And as a consoler it would lessen the lack of filters peeps use to get the stain visible from Mars.

Rework blindness for killer, survivor or both?

But that just makes Blindness turn into worse version of Undetectable.
So we go from a status that isn't used cause it is mostly useless to a status that isn't used because there better version of it.
1 -
It's also usually easier to apply than Undetectable.
1 -
Not that much easier. There are 5 perks that give Blindness and 5 perks that give Undetectable.
Pretty much all of the perks for Undetectable just give you the status passively in relation to a very common situation the most difficult one to use is Dark Devotion as it requires the obsession.

There are a ton of Add-Ons that give Blindness, but are never used because a Killer doesn't benefit from a Survivor being blind during chase.
1 -
Blindness doesn't even benefit killers outside of chase in the vast majority of situations. It's just not a good status effect and honestly could be replaced entirely with something new and actually useful.

I would add that you cant see progress bar, you can see the gen or heal until you finish but not the exact amount of progress and see hex/boon totems as dulls.
This in addition of the aura.
And yes you should be able to see what your teammates are doing in HUD. But it dont show how advanced you are to the rest or yourself.
At least this is my idea.

Absolutely and I completely agree w the top comment from the demodog. There's no reason for it to work in a way that affects solos so much and swfs so little
