Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

How do you counter wraith

Can someone explain to me how you’re supposed to counter wraith? i’ve been going against a lot of wraiths recently and they all chase me for no more than 20 seconds then leave so of course i go do a gen and they come out of no where and before i can get to any loop or anything they’ve already uncloacked and get a free down. What are you supposed to do? a 360 and hope it works? most also bring fearmonger so no dh or sprint burst, it’s even worse when they bring the add on that makes their bell silent. the only counter i can think of is being healed all game but even then you have to keep finding survivors to heal you and it’s bad when it’s down to 2 people.

You said it yourself, Wraith is weak to healing. Make sure to stay healed up, he's a hit and run killer and will have a very hard time if he decides to commit to a full chase since you still can waste his time by making him deal with loops. The red bell addon does remove his only counterplay but it's an exception since it's an ultra-rare. And if your headphones are good enough you might still be able to hear his messed up breathing before he can actually uncloak.

Wraith isn't even a good killer, he's plain and simple C tier material. Against coordinated players he's completely screwed.

Stay healthy as much as you practically can as he gets first hits really easy on unsuspecting survivors.

Eyes and ears open. Know where your safety nets are. Unless it's a map like lerys, you usually can see him coming since he doesn't have complete invisibility while moving at you fast enough to reach a nearby window or pallet. Unless your team used them all, then your in trouble.

Basically be paranoid but calm and you'll be rewarded.

Wraith has a lot of visual and audio cues to help you deal with him.

    • You can hear the "woosh" sound of him uncloaking which you can use to tell that he is chasing someone close by, you can pair this with the Survivor HUD to tell that they are chasing a certain Survivor, if the Entity's Tendrils stop moving, this means that Wraith has left them, so you can use this knowledge to hide in case they are doing Hit and Run.
    • Wraith has various auditory warnings to let you know he is close by, you can hear his breathing if he is extremely close (or sitting still). If they are using Silent Bell or Universal Bell, you can hear the crackling of flames as he uncloaks and appears; this can be used to completely counter those addons.

The best way to play against Wraith is by being extremely alert, looking around constantly helps significantly when dealing with Wraith. He is a stealth Killer so it is often best to be aware of your surroundings. You always need an escape plan just in case he sneaks up on you.

Wraith is still an M1-Killer, so their weaknesses are still that of an M1-Killer. Remaining healthy and staying split up can reduce a lot of pressure the Wraith has. It is also important that someone is always working on a Generator, someone needs to be progressing the game at all times, otherwise you can easily snowball into a loss.

Wraith is a paradox for me in that I've never outrun a Wraith that uncloaked to hit me, I always get hit, but when I play as him uncloaking feels so. freaking. slow !

Same feeling here. When I'm a survivor that speed boost coming out of cloak seems inescapable, when playing Wraith doesn't seem long enough to catch the survivor.

...You should never do a generator injured playing against Wraith. Especially w/ the lack of pallets or safety around you. That is the biggest mistake people make versus him. He is a stealth killer and he can easily sneak up on you, so yea you deserved to go down b/c you decided to sit on a gen and not heal up first.

Think about what his hit and run playstyle is doing. Not only is it spreading pressure to others but he's likely forcing people into dropping pallets within the chase, which then he just quickly breaks. Rinse and repeat, before you know it, all the safe pallets are gone, only a few remain and the survivors have to play smart. Playing a match injured against a Wraith who knows what he's doing is almost always a guaranteed loss. You need to heal & you need to take your time.

Hell, he can push you off a gen, make it seem like he's dropping chase with you, only for him to stand still in stealth (you wont see him if he's just standing still, like at all), wait for you to come back and then easily down you. Seen it happen so many times.

He's a very underrated killer who survivors don't really respect.

Heal and play slow. You're not going to be able to gen rush through a hit and run Wraith. Be mindful of your positioning at all times and watch your HUD.

Don't get tunnel vision on specific gens and develop sunk cost fallacy. Start a different one if the Wraith is obsessed with one. I have a two kick rule with any killer, meaning I move to a different gen if the killer patrols to interrupt a gen twice with CoB/Overcharge/Eruption/etc. You will spend twice as much time trying to brute force the 60% gen than it will take to split the gen pressure.

This kind of goes for every killer, but stop grouping on gens unless there's a very specific reason to (Prove Thyself+3 gen). There's literally never a reason to 3 man a gen unless someone is actively in chase and it's the last remaining gen. You should never, ever be in a position where the killer can patrol to a spot and find every active survivor that isn't slugged or on hook.

There's nothing too special about Wraith in chase. Be mindful that some Wraiths will try to block a window or pallet while cloaked. You can spam vault a pallet to lock them out of the kick animation if they're cloaked.

Some Wraiths try to abuse the wind storm at a pallet, Just run away if they attempt to do that.

Coxcomb clapper or bone clapper is you friend! Use them with the brown add on that keeps your stain and terror radius hidden for 6 extra seconds
