What happened in July of 2021
Checked these saying players are leaving in large numbers. Kind of exaggerated, this only Steam by the way. The games peak was July 2021. What do you think caused that?

I was gonna mention the Resident Evil chapter, but that came out in June 2021. So unless more players kept coming into the game gradually for that reason, it is most likely for a different reason.
I remember the July 2021 update buffed Trickster. That was huge for me since I main him, but I doubt that update would have increased the player count.

Might be unrelated, but from what I can gather the old 'grades' system was replaced by the first iteration of the MMR system in September 2021.
Was/still is a pretty controversial change to the game. Or could be unrelated, not entirely sure.

It was the resident evil chapter that brought a lot of people back that came out a couple weeks before, in combination with the anniversary event that was going on that was extended until the 15th.
By the way, the 105k peak WAS the resident evil chapter. The averages reflect that.

RE came out in the middle of June, so much of July's player count is tied directly to the anniversary update. August's player count is just reflective of poor player retention.

Peak was the RE chapter. It was crazy popular (hence why we got a second one). They simply didn't manage to retain the numbers.

It was probably the release of the first Resident Evil chapter. I was so happy when that happened and so many people were playing. I spent all my BPs trying to get as many RPD map offerings as I could. 😁 It was a particularly exciting time for DBD.

Resident Evil released and the Anniversary event happened.
Also, right after that MMR got added.
