Old player returning, is it worth it?

Ive put over 7k+ hrs into dbd most of that on solo survivor or killer and stopped almost a year and a half ago ....my question is, is it worth coming back?? Killer was very frustrating to play when I left and so was solo survivor but I stayed because I genuinely love dead by Daylight and even tho I stopped playing it always remained my favorite game online ...so what is the new meta like?

Would you say the overall killer experience is better tho without these perks?

no, because killers don't have slowdown anymore. Literally every slowdown is dead, maybe jolt is still alive but isn't that strong. Survs, on the other hands, still have prove thyself, busted toolboxes and bnp. Like in 30 seconds you see 2/3 gens popped. I preferred the game when DS stunned you for 5 seconds but at least I had my slowdown perks, so I could counter genrush. Now it's a "tunnel the objective" party.

All Slowdown is basically dead, passive slowdown is what most ppl run and tunnel from minute 1. Its not very exciting imo as Killer and the newest addition to the game in terms of killers are very stale but maybe thats just me.

Yes. You don't have to worry about Dead Hard makes chases more fun. And plus hit & run is more viable since CoH is dead too.

Solo Survivor is pretty much the same. I don’t try hard so I don’t get the sweaty Nurses and Blights. Killers tunnel, but not as much as the forums make it seem. Camping is rare unless it’s at 1 or less gens.

As killer, gens go by so fast now. If playing an M1 killer like Doctor, three gens are gone by the time you get your first down (unless you go against potatoes). Good luck if you get sent to Garden of Misery or Boringo. If you want to stand a chance you need to play a strong killer Like Blight or Mediocre Skull Merchant and camp a three gen. Warning though, Skull Merchant is boring but if you take joy in making survivors miserable, she’s the best killer. Many would rather get tunneled out by a sweaty Nurse over a 30+ minute match against Skull Merchant.

If u played killers for chases – yes. DH is still there and only became stronger, bc no one wait for it now. But it is significantly less in matches, completely absent in the first chases, which is way more pleasant and fair.

If u played killers to win - no. Maybe only for some strongest killers. Genrush is unstoppable now, even with extremely fast chases. Seems like even 300 hours survivors know where is key to win now – m1 button. Healing "nerf" didn't change anything, survivors replace dh with 1 healing perk and it only became stronger. Which proves how boosted healing has been and remains. Also there is BNP and syringe almost every game. But if u r okay with hard tunnel and camp every game to win against good survivors, u can try it. I'm bored af from it, try to play for chases more.

Btw i enjoy solo survivors now. There was and there is still only 1 big problem with solo – stupid players aka MMR. One match you could play with hardcore survivors and run out with two hooks on team and another match you could play with baby survivors who sit in the looker whole game. I still don't know how it works.

Let’s not pretend Pain Resonance and Deadlock aren’t prevalent anymore. Both are still very good.

  • ProfessorDunwich
    ProfessorDunwich Member Posts: 1,514

If you are going to play Killer, certainly not. Killers are having tactics removed one by one and it will continue until the Survivor Rulebook is completely forced.

  • illNicola
    illNicola Member Posts: 482

Deadlock is countered by genrush, a lots of my matches end up with 6 gens made. Pain resonance doesn't give any value, since the reward for the hook is only 25% (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't remember the %), only usable 4 times. For a perk only usable 4 times, that require you to hook on a specific hook, I need more % of regression.

  • GannTM
    GannTM Member Posts: 10,887

Only 25%? That’s literally 22.5 seconds of a gen that is being regressed, that is far from nothing. And four max uses means nothing about the perks strength, DS was seen as one of the best perks for a while yet it was a one-time use perk. That’s why I hate it when people bring up the “it has X uses” argument.

  • illNicola
    illNicola Member Posts: 482

It's not the same thing. DS if used in a good spot can make a chase last also 1 or 2 more minutes. Pain resonance work like this: oh the gen popped, well we can rush it same with prove and busted toolboxes. 22.5 seconds became like 3 seconds, are you sure about that?

  • GannTM
    GannTM Member Posts: 10,887

Getting all four uses of Pain Resonance is literally 100% of a whole gen. That saves more time than what DS provided in most cases.

  • illNicola
    illNicola Member Posts: 482

100% on separate gens. If it were on only 1 gen ok, it's strong, but it's on 4 random gens. You haven't considered this

  • Beatricks
    Beatricks Member Posts: 857

Only if you are going to SWF or play Nurse/Blight/Spirit.

SoloQ is in a more miserable place than ever before, don't let people mindlessly bringing up the HUD changes, it literally solved nothing. Except now you KNOW your teammates are useless instead of just assuming it.

And M1 killers can only win if you tunnel from the first second with 4 slowdowns and you don't go up against a killsquad. Of course you can dunk on the occasional SoloQ team but those folks don't make it to high MMR anymore.

  • GannTM
    GannTM Member Posts: 10,887

Four random gens? It regresses the gen with the MOST progress. That is by no means random.

  • illNicola
    illNicola Member Posts: 482

I mean, 4 random gens because it's not the same. You know that survs procede with repairing right? Or do you think that they play like "Oh the killer has pain resonance, let's make our most repaired gen go from 99% to 0%"? 25% 4 times on the same gen is strong, 25% on 4 different gens (because if you manage to get 4 pain resonance on the same gen it means that your facing potatoes) it's not strong. It's quite decent, but it's not strong at all.

  • lifestylee
    lifestylee Member Posts: 262

I use pain res and pop together and its decent regression, not as good as we had but if you can get the downs rolling at an alright pace its not bad.

It is more fun because the gen kick meta and infinite heal, dead hard meta was boring, I would say only playing as sweaty as possible with Blight is fun. Using stbfl to tunnel immediately is very strong. I don't recommend veteran players to return unless they want to tunnel at 5 gens and camp the entire match.

bhvr pretty much killed self heaing, CoH (boons) are dead, many meta perks changed (is ok and good) so if you plan to play swf and killer then treat yourself but if you plan to play q solo then stay away! look for a other game, that is not worth it! they just nerfed solo q xD what bhvr did only hit the solos hard but swf is still absolutely #1, only bhvr increased the gap between the two, cool not ? :DD

Welp as an older player on console who came back after a 2 year break, and a Twins main close to P100, yes the killer experience is SO much better.

All the annoying survivor perks are dead.

The game still has issues, but it’s in a much better place.

Oh and I’m a 50/50 killer/soloq surv. Soloq is tough but still enjoyable.

  • illNicola
    illNicola Member Posts: 482

Pop is useless, since it remove % of the gen based on the current progression. I don't understand your combo. Since pain resonance remove 25% of the total, you go kick with pop and won't remove that much. Also, you don't know which gen popped with pain resonance, so if it's not near you don't know which gen popped

  • NerfDHalready
    NerfDHalready Member Posts: 1,749

dh pretty much gone, boons are gone (coh is still strong but at least not as common) unless it's a swf with weird playstyles, and infinite medkits are gone -2 heals max with an iri add on-. if you didn't rely on slow down perks all that much, killer is most likely better than when you left. just get your favorite map offerings ready because we have now a handful of very not nice ones.

The new meta isn't much different and the only new content that really popped off was wesker, very popular killer, but no new perks really became meta.

I don't think the game is going to feel much different for you but there's not much harm in trying anyways.

  • lifestylee
    lifestylee Member Posts: 262

Pop does a decent amount of regression if a gen is atleast 50% or so, 10% from pop and then 2.5% from base kick and then the gen starts to regress.

You dont have to kick the gen effected by pain res but you can, if their nearly done with the gen it can go from 95% to 70% from pain res and then to 53.5% after you kick it with pop. It can give you alot of regression through the game.

I use pop through patrolling gens and chasing survivors off gens and then pop it since it is active for a bit. I think it works well for killers that have good mobility but i've only been playing those killers. If you listen well you can hear high progressed gens and you can also know through gamesense which gen(s) their most likely working on and which gens you want to protect.

The guy that got a 1000 blight streak was using pain res and pop near the end of his streak and i know some streamer(s) who use pain res and pop and can get alot value from it.

Solo Q survivor is painful without Boon: Circle of Healing. The toxic players have started to come back in the last month. There has been lots of DCs and survivors sabotaging other survivors. No slow down really on the killers so you get your butt kicked often.

Don't come back... yet, i'd say. Unless you really love Nicolas Cage.

Current meta is still genrush vs. killrush. Solo will replace DCs with bots soon, but i'm worried the new killer will be the 3rd in a row to be unfun to play and verse. And the new map has the potential to be be the next Garden of JOY, depending on it's size.

i use corrupt intervention and bamboozle but i use it for wraith, can use corrupt or no way out maybe deadlock but not the best synergy with it, those are just the regression perks i use.

Its 100% of a gen yes, but it requires you to spread hooks around, which spreading around 4 hooks, even if all the survivors don't use pallets or windows and immediately go down holding w, is going to take 55 seconds per chase. This is going to amount to:

survivor 1 gets chased and hooked

2 gens have 55 seconds of progress

1 gen has 32.5 seconds of progress

survivor 2 gets chased and hooked

    1 get is completed

2 gens have 32.5 seconds of progress

survivor 3 gets chased and hooked

    1 gen is completed

1 gen has 12.5 seconds of progress

    survivor 4 gets chased

1 gen has 45 seconds of progress

Survivors have now completed 2 generators and are halfway to a 3rd, meaning their objective around half done, you now no longer have a perk, and you still need to 2 hook every survivor and yours is 1/3 done. The way the flow of the game works, is you MUST eliminate a survivor by the time you hit 1-2 gens or you will lose.

The old pain res didn't require you to spread around hooks, meaning it was much more useful.

Now lets look at the math for DS.

DS stuns the killer for 3 seconds, 0.5 seconds i believe of which is animation time for the survivor meaning they get 10 meters of distance for the survivor. If the survivor doesn't get to a pallet, this adds 3 seconds (pickup animation) + 0.5 seconds of killer being stunned + ~8 seconds to catch up to the survivor and lunge + ~1 second lunge animation + 2.7 attack cooldown. You can think the second pickup animation, the hook animation and walking to the hook would be the same if they didn't have DS.

This means at MINIMUM DS adds 3 + 0.5 + 8 + 1 + 2.7= 15.2 seconds added to the chase. That is with the survivor not getting to any loop. Multiply that by 4, and it adds 60.8 seconds of chase time. Getting to a pallet adds at minimum 15 seconds to a chase. 2.7 break animation, during which the survivor gains 10.8 meters of distance + a few meters for pallet range, so lets say 12 meters which takes ~12 seconds to catch up to. Meaning, this means that all it takes is for a single survivor using DS to get to a pallet.

Remember, this is a 4v1 game, not a 1+1+1+1v1. The 1 should ALWAYS be stronger than the 4. This is assuming that every survivor gets the minimum use out of the perk, and the killer gets the MAXIMUM use out theirs. And it still pretty close.

-"Killer was very frustrating to play when I left and so was solo survivor but I stayed because I genuinely love dead by Daylight and even tho I stopped playing it always remained my favorite game online"

Nurse and Blight are "fine". The Top 8 or so killers beneath them are "mostly ok" if you bring super strong perks and addons. Everything else is not really worth playing in terms of frustration.

To play survivor and not suffer you want to bring a 4 man swf.

The new meta? Gen Regression got completely deleted but gen rushing perks didn't get touched - enjoy playing killer. Both sides tunnel out their objective to make the game as short as possible.

I'd suggest you wait for the anniversary release before deciding anything. Or at least we get some feedback from tomorrow's PTB.

More specifically the anti-camp mechanic that may be the last straw against playing killer.

If you want to only play survivor it's fine though.
