Why can't we change the control bindings on console?

Too many times now I've went into a locker while trying to vault a window, or it's tried to do the totem instead of go into the locker etc etc. Every second counts in this game, and it's incredibly frustrating when the game doesn't know what I want to do and essentially has to guess, because there are like 5 actions all on the same button. I know prompts come up, but it's very annoying having to make sure it's the right one, rather than just a 'vault' button.

I've noticed with the new killer, there's a new button assigned to the emp device (because you can carry it alongside an item) yet my triangle, circle, square and X buttons remain unused... why?

    I'm certain you can change some of them.

    When I started playing DbD, I used to throw pallets if I was trying to heal someone near a pallet because both were the same button. I went into the settings and changed them so that they are no longer the same button... so it definitely is a thing you can do for some interactions.
