The Artist. Is she unpopular?

Genuinely curious what other peoples’ experience has been in regard to Artist and frequency of facing one. I feel like I do not see people playing her much at all. I’ve heard people say they don’t like her gameplay. I don’t understand what that means, anyone agree and can explain? Is she boring to play to some people? Too difficult? Too spammy? I just got her and I like her a lot. Love to hear others thoughts and encounter frequency

Her sounds/music is really grating to me.

I find her decently fun to play, but she's just bland. She's got good cosmetics tho.

When people say they don’t like her gameplay it’s definitely the super boring effective anti loop playstyle with crows which is something I find absolutely boring

Before I start, I will say that I quite enjoy Artist from time to time and I like to go againts her and yes, she is towards the bottom of pickrate, even tho she is strong Killer.

    • People usualy play her as drop crows on the loop and force Survivors to run somewhere else. This is the part that Survivors don't like (even tho a lot of Killers do this, but nvm). So I think many Killer players find this not so fun since you are just following Survivors until you hit them.

I think good Artists will try for long range sniping and that's pretty good on her and fun too. However I think just most people find her "too simple" (not because she is easy to play), meaning she just isn't that interesting.

I went against Artist like twice in the past two days, which is a lot more than usual, and neither those games were fun.

Because she's an anti loop killer the only thing you can do to counter her is holding W. If you stay at a loop she just puts down a crow and that's it you gotta leave. So yeah, just holding w and predropping pallets until she inevitably catches up isn't exciting at all.

When she came out she made my game so laggy I actually had to take a break until she was less popular, but now that the issue seems to have been fixed I still don't feel like trying to play her. I have played her a couple times for the adept but I don't remember it, I know it's not because I don't have fun against her that I wouldn't have fun playing her but it's certainly a deterrent from trying.

In any case, if you have fun playing her don't feel bad because a lot of survivors you go against won't like it, just do your thing. Also she's not fun but she's not the kind of killer who makes you want to sacrifice yourself on hook either, and killer diversity is always welcome.

I play her a ton. I would definitely consider myself an Artist main. I love going for those long range snipes and the double/triple crow shots with Severed Hands. She’s so rewarding in that regard.

She is boring to use. The only fun part is sniping survivors from very far away.

I like her a lot (although I play survivor majority of the time). If you could play her more as sort of a sniper she would be more fun. Her iri add-ons are pretty useless and generally her add-ons are on the boring side (except the one that can swarm two people at the same time). Wish we could get like some reworks to her add ons.

It would be cool if she had an add-on that made her ability go through targets and swarm anyone in is path (not stop at the first one), or an Iri add on (instead of the one that exposes), that can make your crows injure after they pass like the first wall but maybe make the swarm thinner. That would actually be strong and make her play more like a sniper.

Low--ish mmr survivor here, and they are few and far between here. Which I'm not complaining about. Not even touching on her gameplay, a lot of the Artists I see are very keen on BMing, for some reason.

Gameplay wise, I do find her TR to be very quiet, which throws me off a lot. I'll just start noticing it and she's immediately upon me.

She's fun imo to play as and verse. What i do find kinda annoying, especially at long range distance is how easy her swarm crows are to get rid of via lockers, Needs to be some sort of tradeoff there, maybe a debuff that prevents cleansing swarm for the next 10 seconds via entering lockers.

I very rarely see her in my survivor games and the ones I do come across are usually very good and end up 4k-ing.

Playing her is a rather miserable experience, the hitbox of her birds is absolutely wild and makes me want to play Huntress instead.

It all depends on how she is played. If the Artist-player is going for more long-ranged Snipes, she is fun to play and fun to verse. But the majority dont play her like that.

Most of the time it is "Place a crow at a Loop to force the Survivor to leave"... And that on repeat. The only counter the Survivor has is to shift W, which is boring for both sides. While it is effective to use her Crows like this it is boring over time, because you dont really outplay the Survivor, you just catch up at some point because you are faster than them.

I think if more players would go for more long-ranged Snipes, she would be more fun to play for Artist-players and also more fun to verse. But on the other hand, players who play her mainly for her Anti-Loop cannot be blamed, it is BHVRs fault to create such a design.

I think if her add-ons gave her that option she would be played like that more often. I would love it if we had the option to play her either as an anti-loop killer or a sniper primarily.

I checked her add-ons just in case I am missing something, but there's no add-on to make her place her crow(s) faster. And it could limit how many crow(s) you can place with it. So you could throw it out faster when you see a sniping opportunity. Just my opinion.

I'm not that good of a killer player, so I dunno if what I'm suggesting would be a good idea or broken, but the add-ons could be changed to incentivize that playstyle.

    Artist has two problems

The first is that she's a bit clunky. You have to hold down the power button and place crows while being slowed down and then you have to let go of the power button and press a different button after 0.5 second delay to fire the crows. Then you have the limit of placing crows near hooks which makes scouting with some crows after a hook or on maps like Game or Midwich you can just be screwed by chasing a survivor under a hook.

The second is that she's deceptively difficult to play while being quite punishing for messing up. She's up there for one of the hardest killers to master. Her skill floor is low as you can just place crows at loops and against survivors not familiar with Artist, this can work well. But most experience survivors will see/hear you place the crow and use the slowdown to make distance to another tile. She has a small window where she can land a follow up attack to hit a swarmed survivor for damage and missing will basically reset progress in chase completely.

You add in the fact that mastering Nurse and Blight are easier tasks and have similar if not better results than Artist and you have a killer not ideal to just pick up and play on top of a killer that people have no reason to invest time in mastering. She's just in an awkward place and she could really use some QoL changes.
