Skull Merchant is the first killer that has made me miss the old keys
I have been thinking about this lately, but imagine if Skull Merchant existed pre-5.3.0. It feels like a chore getting a tight 3-gen broken against her but if it is a 3v1 with 1 gen remaining, then a key could hard counter this obnoxious strategy. The devs talked about making keys some base feature (with some balancing involved) in the 5th year anniversary stream but we haven't heard anything about it since. Now I really think we need it to combat how awful this killer is to go against.
Anyone feel the same way?

I've always felt the pre Mikaela hatch was the best spot for it. It basically served as a basekit counter to intentionally tunneling 1 person out, as well as intentional 3 genning. Also with MMR it still counts as a Killer victory, (Kill + 3 hatches is a win + 3 ties) albeit an anticlimactic one. It only opened for 10s IIRC so you had to gather people to quickly escape, no extended gloating like exit gate teabags. It just seems like a throwing the baby out with the bathwater scenario overall.

ahh i used to hide the keys i found with my loot build in the darkest corners of basement so noone could find them and **** the whole match over by escaping all by themselves. they were fun but it was the most broken and nonsensical thing this game will ever see imo, so no missing from me. there are easier ways to escape a sm match anyway... just break the 3 gen :)

Old hatch was awful, endgame builds were usless because with 1 gen left just let a guy die and no build left.
Delays were usless because a kill became a negative thing.
Fair play had no impact you would lose anyway because gens would get done or someone would die sooner or later.
It was a net loss if even 1 person had a key it was awful. Same as old moris, get hooked once and you are dead, awful.

Nothing could make miss the old key/hatch dynamic and it should stay dead.
But Skull Merchant suuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkkkssss. They should disable the DC penalty for SM games only.
The upside to her being so apololyptically awful is that I only face a SM once or twice a week, most often less.

I have not thought about it, but after reading this, yeah, it would be nice to be able to escape a 3-genning Skull Merchant with a Key. Sadly this is only a dream...

It is a really unfun killer to go against, but I have met a lot of cool SM. They let us farm when others leave the match, and I can tell they are just playing it for a challenge and I try to help them. After, they are friendly in the chat :)
