Announced Hangman's Trick Change

Hangman's Trick still shouldn't be made into a scourge hook. Even though the range was mentioned that it will end up being increased, the rng spawn of the Scourge Hooks will make the perk extremely inconsistent and some of the time not usable at all. The best thing in this situation would be to keep it as it is now, just increase the range to 10m.

    Response

I don't think that'll work... 10m from every hook is pretty monstrous coverage, in some maps you'll see everything at all times, at all ranges... it'll be like bbq and chilli on crack.

    Perk Intent

I think everyone is getting hung up on the idea this perks is an info perk for working out where to go next... If you look at the perks history, I don't think that was ever the primary intent. Sure sometimes it MAY help you choose a hook to head towards if you spot a survivor on a gen near a hook, but that's not its primary purpose.

This perk is primarily to combat/get info on people saboing/body blocking your hooks, so you can decide to go to a safer, but potentially further hook instead. This was kinda weak ofc, as you can usually guess/see whether survivors are trying to sabo/bb you more often than not (if they even try), and if you're that worried, agitation or iron grasp would probably help you more, both in this scenario and in general, so using a perk for it is a bit of a waste.

With the aura now being a larger radius on the scourge hooks, the scourge hooks will be more likely to pick up a spot on a gen, and ofc if a survivor is even remotely nearby your scourge hook, you'll know. The point is, scourge hooks typically required a longer walk and bigger commitment to reach. Knowing early on a survivor is trying to beat you to it basically ensures you have information on someone potentially waiting for you to commit to sabo it, so you can instead take an alternative hook if needed.

    Why it's still weak

This ofc does mean you need another really strong scourge hook perk for that to really be worth the investment of a second perk slot... this is the perks primary issue, without another strong scourge hook perk, you don't have a reason to want to hook on a scourge hook... which makes this perk a highly map rng dependant, kind weak, aura reading perk....

    Possible Buffs

With the intent of remaining on brand for a "Hangman's Trick", some kind of weak effect should be added to avoid overloading the perk, but still give a reason for killer to gp for the hook on it. Some buffs to consider may be:

    1. The hooked survivor is blinded (can't see teammate auras, thus can't comms as easily where the killer is/going relative to other survivors).
    2. The scourge hook cannot be destroyed, and comes back instead of being permanently broken when sacrificing a survivor, and sabotaged scourge hook respawns are 50% faster (including Breakdown) to allow the killer to drop and chase and still potentially hook.
    3. Saboing a scourge hook causes 20% Hindered for 6 seconds.
    4. Unhooking the survivor is 75% slower off the scourge hook (This might be good with the unhook grab being removed). This helps to ensure you can land the hit on the survivor you actually want if they try to unhook too close to you. (Good Lord... I made facecamping Bubba worse... xD)

Regardless, it needs some effect to make this scourge hook itself appealing for the killer to use with just this perk....

I understand what you mean in regards to the original intent and how insane it would be with 10m of range. At the same time that extra increase of range added to every hook would allow you to see the auras still even if they have run past the hook rather than having to look at the right hook at the exact same time, it would allow for a tiny bit of flexibility when moving to a hook, especially when some of the maps have horrible hook spawn rng, accompanied by the rng of scourge hook spawns.

I think a good effect if it was to unfortunately remain as a Scourge hook would be to apply the exposed status effect when successfully sabotaging it for a duration of 10 to 15 seconds (on basic attacks). This would mean that because you wouldve most likely had to have dropped a survivor you were carrying, it would still have pressure and the ability to get a down and a hook as you wouldve most likely have completely lost the ability to hook that initial survivor.
