Why can bots fail skill checks?
They spend 90% of the time running around doing side objectives (chests, totems, anything but gens), so why is it that the 10% of the time they're not crouching in a corner or being useless and actually doing gens, they still fail 1 out of 5 skill checks?

I've literally spectated a bot failing regular skill checks, back to back.

I agree. Seems pretty stupid. At least make it to where bots cannot fail normal skill checks... :/

Hitting good skillchecks with 100% accuracy is abnormal. Not impossible, but not accurate to how real human beings play the game.
No matter how good you are at the game you will miss a skillcheck at some point for any number of reasons. No player has a 100% skillcheck hit rate. If a bot misses 1 out of 5 times that still 4 successful skillchecks which very good. If a bot hits a great skill 1 out of every 25 skillchecks that's more accurate to someone of average skill.

People miss skill checks when they're looking away from the screen, or their computer freezes, or they go for a Great and whiff. That's it.

They also miss skillchecks when the server weirds out or because they play on console where hitting skillchecks isn't as clean by default. There is also times where silent skillchecks are in play or the tremendously difficult 3 o'clock skillcheck where you need to basically hit it right when it spawn. People miss skillchecks when letting go of or tapping gens or being interrupted by the killer showing up. Space bars break, a cat jumps on the desk, you need to stand up. I could go on for literal hours name everything that can and has made someone miss a skillcheck.
Sometimes this game just flatout forces you to fail a skillcheck because as we all know, she a little buggy alotta the time in annoyingly small, but non game breaking ways.
With all that and more at play, people still hit skillchecks with a huge amount of accuracy. Bots are supposed to mimic average human play not be automated toolboxes with no imperfections whatsoever

my favorite bot move is when they slow vault a z wall instead of playing a completely safe loop

They're still noobs! They just showed up a few days ago. Let them figure it out like we all had to. They're trying their best :(

At least they should not miss a skill check when repairing a generator with a team mate.
One thing is when they ''mess up'' somewhere alone, another is when they do so while there is a human team mate nearby.

My guess is it's intentional - bots could play more perfectly than most any human if unconstrained. They probably put in some randomness to mimic how something with human reflexes, attentiveness, and awareness would succeed and fail at various tasks in the game.
If they wanted to get really fancy they could train an AI model off tons of play logs (provided that level of detail is logged) and it would be even more 'real player' like. That might just be the fan of overengineering in me speaking though. Project managers ruin all the fun.

Bots missing skill checks could be proportional to AI stress levels and Rank. Less stress = higher accuracy. Higher rank = higher accuracy. I think it's an interesting AI coding idea.

Yeah I've commented about this in another topic. They miss way more skill checks than your average player.

That's a stance you can take from what I said if you want to be extremely uncharitable by acting as if the list is exhaustive and can only feature external factors.
People can and do miss skillchecks just because we aren't perfect little soldiers with impeccable timing and focus. Like you're trying to paint this as if I'm saying something wacky and unreasonable. You're also trying to make seem that I'm saying bots should fail when that isn't remotely my point. My actual point is that a bot failing skillchecks is more accurate to what humans do when they play the game.
Even the best players botch skillchecks every now and then.

Actually yes. They have wallhacks. Can you imagine if they hit great skill checks consistently?

When did we go from good to great? They have wallhacks but they absolutely can't loop most filler pallets, they predrop pallets, they take inefficient pathing, they fail fast vaults a lot, and they don't know how to juke most killer powers. Managing to do a gen in 90s instead of failing every other skill check isn't a tall order for bots.

I guess having them blow a gen sometimes is simulating real players. But sometimes the timing is so bad it costs you the match.

Bots don't perform like humans. They have terrible decision making, they will run across the map to do a chest instead of finishing a 99 gen at 1 gen remaining. They're incredibly inefficient in general and a hinderance to most teams, having them fail skill checks is just a slap in the face.

i still down the bots. i have seen people complain they cannot down bots. that is funny.

This. They're pretty terrible team mates. The skill check misses are just rubbing salt in the wound at this point.

Yeah I’m not talking about downing them. If you can do them at loop where they literally can’t see you it’s interesting to watch the movement.

They also miss struggle skill checks. Had one miss two in a row and die. They also miss wiggle skill checks quite a bit, it's hilarious.

I think this might be a Casual v. Competent issue. Bots are still in development and I doubt the expectation on the first patch is for them to function competitively in "high MMR". For players less than a year in, they are probably passable for now. Maybe in a patch or two, they could introduce/refine some skill scaling for the specific lobby.
