Is the red stain outdated?
The killers red stain in front of them has been there since the start, but in my opinion I feel like it is an outdated mechanic.
1. It hinders killer cosmetics in game. You wanna look cool? Well heres a giant red blob.
2. It goes through walls sometimes basically telling survivors where you are
3. It follows teleporting killers showing you exactly which way they teleport.
4. It removes the suprise scare factor that that I miss as survivor.
Maybe it should be added in a new gamemode or custom option in match settings for custom games. I'm curious on what everyone's thoughts are on this. You don't have to agree, just have fun with this discussion.

Hmm, yea I see your point.
I think it could be done away with, I definitely agree with your take on the cosmetics.

Safe to say no one would play that gamemode apart from killers.

maybe but i think red stain is perhaps a base-kit mechanic for survivor to counter-act wall-hack aura reading at loops though I do not see any killers with that ability.

It could be tweaked and your reasoning is absolutely sound. However, I wouldn't be totally in favour of removing it entirely. Killers can use it their advantage too by making survivors think they're going one way when they aren't. It is also useful to newer survivors who may not be so knowing of how to deal with the killer. Beyond the newer players, the stain plays far less of a role.
However, with regards to your points:
1. For killers, they could have an option to remove the red light from their screens. Actually, just remove it from their screens entirely. So long as the killer knows the survivors can see it then it's all the same. Good point.
2. This would be a tweak that could be done to remove the stain being seen through walls. Again, another good point.
3. I'd keep this, honestly. The only killer that this applies to majorly would be Nurse and survivors could do with all the help they could get against her. Others like Hag or Singularity really would see no benefit in this being removed.
4. Surprise scares are still better for killers using stealth strategies, such as Myers, Wraith or Ghost Face. There's little reason for killers like Oni or Executioner to get this naturally. Besides, there are enough perks out there which can allow killers to be undetectable, not to mention that some killers even have add-ons which do the same.
Overall, you do have decent points amd removing the stain from the killer perspective and improving the accuracy of visability in regards to walls is definitely something I'd agree with. However, there's still a reason for this to be around and ways to remove it for killers.

disagree. Removing it would actually nerf killers. You can already hide the red stain anyways with moonwalk mindgames, this would remove said mindgames. Also the fact it shows where tp killers go is just for nurse, and lets not buff nurse.
8 -
how does that make any sense. the whole point of moon-walk mindgames is to hide your red glow so the survivor does not know where you are in the loop across the wall. removing red glow mindgames is like permanent red glow moonwalk from the killer. the loops with walls become a lot harder to loop as survivor.

i agree it shouldnt go through walls
but i think having the red stain is better than not having it (it could make killer weaker, mindgames involving the red stain are gone completely, and that just hurts the already dead and buried m1 killers)
i dont think its meant to go through walls tho, i think thats just spaghetti code
and as for cosmetics idk how theyd go about fixing that, but yeah making killers a massive red lighthouse does make them look kinda silly

- The red glow doesn't really detract from the "cool" cosmetic as much as it seems.
- depending on the structure of the wall (if it has holes in it already) its definitely considered cheating since that isnt a basekit feature for survivors
- I would argue thats to help survivors not be confused about the killer's point of view since it is associated with their camera pov, its a simple design choice imo
- Generally when the red stain is there, there is also the terror radius so im not sure how thats a surprise.

Short answer: Nope

They could change it to limit the glow to just the eyes. All killers would have easily noticeable glowing red eyes. That would allow survivors to still see which direction the killer is facing at a distance. At the same time it would prevent the red glow from being seen through walls since it would no longer be on the ground.

So they wont expect it. Survivors rely on the red stain as a warning, its why the moonwalk mindgames even work. If that warning is gone over time they'll learn not to need it and just play as efficiently as they do with red stain.

I don't find it to be outdated. It provides information that survivors are going to need to last in a chase. It makes sense as to why it's been in the game for so long.
On top of this, removing the red stain will make looping at tall structures pretty much a free hit as a killer and will only give survivors more of a reason to adapt to a w-key playstyle, which is already a huge problem.

No, it’s fine. It shouldn’t go through walls though.

The red stain helps killers more than it helps survivors honestly. Without it you wouldn’t be able to pull off certain mind games and it would just make killer less enjoyable.
It should stay but I do agree that it shouldn’t go through walls or follow teleporting killers. Fix those but leave it untouched otherwise.

Yes, please remove stain. Tired of moonwalking myers. He may be a Michael, but he’s not a Jackson.

You realize it's there for game balance? It's not just there to spite you

I just wish we had old beast of prey so we could get at least an option to deal with it.

I don't think it's outdated at all. It's really your only indication of where the killer is at many loops. It's why the killer going backwards is so effective in chase, because it hides the stain and by the time you realise the killer is there you're usually within hitting distance.

i don't think you understand what that red stain mechanic does.... for survivor. maybe the dev should really buff red stain on killers then maybe you will understand what it does for looping. there is reason why beast of prey has bloodlust 1 requirement.

i disagree with you but that last half was funny

Mm, nah removing red stain would be a huge buff for killers. Plus i kinda like it, looks scary when it's on your heels in chase. Plus they'd have to rework some of doctors add ons

Red stain should stay, no reason to remove it. Its there for a reason

If the red stain is projecting through a solid wall then that's a bug. Report it so they know about it. I haven't ever personally seen that happen so it must be specific to whatever surface you were on. It does project over vaultable surfaces and you can see it on the other side of a wall if the wall has cracks but that's all intentional.
Killers don't see their own red stain - only survivors see it. Maybe the doctor can see fake projected ones (I can't remember off hand) but right now it's not something the killer sees.
It's basically a weaker equivalent to scratch marks but for survivors. It gives the directional queue that scratch mark intensity and placement gives but requiring LOS (or close to it if just around a corner) with the thing you're tracking. Terror radius just gives you rough proximity.

Hell no, it's an essential part of chases

I don't think you understand what the red stain mechanic does for a good killer who mindgames. I was running Plaything for the longest time, because I enjoyed how survivors run into my arms - but mediocre players don't fall for it. Even very good survivors fall for red-stain mindgames quite often.

No

This sums it up nicely

I think it would be too strong to remove it, and also would make the Doctor's red stain addons a lot less fun.

The red stain is fine as is. It's part of the skill ceiling for killers to hide it effectively and use it to mind game.
1 -
I dont really notice the cosmetics when in a chase, and from a distance it dosnt really affect it.
1 -
1. Nonsense.
2. Those instances are bugs and should be fixed.
3. Sounds like very minimal counterplay.
4. Killers can use the red stain to their advantage and surprise the survivor, though..
