The problem is the game has no way to tell that's why the game ended.

If the game has a way to pop up an error message stating this exact thing, that is absolutely untrue.

It's just an error message the client throws if you can't reach the dedicated server for any reason. The dedicated server has no idea why you are no longer connected. The server cannot validate why you left which is why the devs cannot give refunds for addons as it would likely open up exploits with people cutting their internet connections.
